Great news! The UK charity sector is seeing a global rise in people wanting to give to medical research. Yesterday, Rebecca Baldaro-Booth, Head of Grants Leeds Hospitals Charity joined 70 charities at an event organised by the Association of Medical Research Charities at the House of Commons. Sponsored by George Freeman, MP, and with Baroness Merron speaking, the event highlighted collaboration in medical research amid a growing health crisis. Leeds Hospitals Charity showcased LTHT’s innovative research projects: Dr Rachael Jablonski’s facial prosthetics work and Dr Nisha Sharma’s AI breast screening trials. Consultant Cardiac Surgeon Ms Carin Van Doorn also presented The Gerlis Project, co-funded by Heart Research UK, to improve understanding of congenital heart conditions. 💡 Together, we’re driving hope through research🎉#Charity #Research #Healthcare

Groundbreaking medical milestone in Leeds! Surgeons at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust have made history with a revolutionary procedure- removing a skull base tumour through the eye socket using a minimally invasive technique. Ruvimbo Kaviya, 40, is the first person in the UK to undergo this pioneering surgery, performed by Mr Asim Sheikh and Mr Jiten Parmar. Using a flexible endoscope, they accessed the tumour through a tiny 1.5cm incision on her eyelid—avoiding the need for large incisions or removing parts of the skull. This innovation marks a new era in skull base surgery, offering patients faster recovery times and less invasive options. In Research & Innovation, patients are at the heart of everything we do. Their involvement drives the breakthroughs that shape the future of healthcare. Last year, over 20,000 patients took part in research at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Their contributions helped us explore new treatments, improve care, and address some of the biggest challenges in medicine. Research is more than science it’s about people making a real difference. By participating, patients become partners in transforming healthcare for future generations. #HealthcareInnovation #PatientCare #ResearchMatters Ai Lyn Tan Dr Helen Radford Richard Evans Hanif Ismail
