  • 🌍 INNOspace Masters is an international innovation competition initiated by the German Space Agency at DLR in 2015 and organised every year together with prominent partners from industry and the European Space Agency - ESA. The competition is open to companies of all sizes, start-ups, research institutions and universities as well as individuals worldwide and promotes ideas for the transfer of technologies and know-how from other industries to the space sector (spin-ins/New Space) or from space to non-space sectors (spin-offs). For the 2025 the competition theme is: "Energise Our Future – Cross-Industry Innovations Linking Earth and Space." The ESA Business Applications and Space Solutions challenge for 2025 is: "Accelerating Energy Innovation through Space Solutions". We're looking for innovative services or applications for sectors such as: ▪️ Infrastructure monitoring and protection: use AI and satellite data to identify damage to energy infrastructure, detect unauthorised activities near assets and ensure compliance, enhancing safety, resilience and operational efficiency. ▪️ Grid and storage optimisation: space-enabled solutions to manage smart grids that integrate renewables and support advanced energy storage technologies, improving reliability, flexibility and the adoption of cleaner energy systems. ▪️ Heat and urban energy management: satellite and digital tools to optimise heat networks and drive urban energy innovations, such as green buildings, reducing energy loss and enhancing sustainability in cities. ▪️ Solar 3.0 advancements: explore how space technology supports dispatchable solar PV power plants with storage, improving grid flexibility and renewable energy uptake. 📌 Prerequisite: High technological readiness level, utilisation of space technology or data, concept for innovative applications or services in terrestrial market and confirmed customer need with a clear business case. • 📢 The German Space Agency at DLR and the German ESA Business Applications Ambassador invite you to a free online event: ‘Space4Intermodal Transport’ on Thursday, 6 March 2025. Please register by 3 March. Intermodal transport is the combination of different modes of transport, such as rail, road, air or sea transport as a central point of sustainable and efficient logistics. A characteristic feature is that only the loading units, such as containers, change means of transport during the entire journey. A new call for proposals: ‘Space for Intermodal Transport’ will open later in March under the framework of the ESA Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) programme. Roberta Mugellesi Dow, Business Applications Manager, European Space Agency - ESA, will share details of the upcoming opportunity, outlining how the call aims to promote development of sustainable services and applications, integrating space technologies or data, to further develop the intermodal transport sector. Your moderator for the event will be Bärbel Deisting, German ESA Business Applications Ambassador.
