In today’s webinar, we partnered with Arcadis to discuss how cities can tackle the critical challenges of sustainability and achieving the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals. A huge thank you to our expert panellists Céline Crestin, Carolien Gehrels, Peter Hogg, Stuart Rogers and Anil Sawhney who shared valuable insights on what defines a sustainable city, the factors that drive or hinder momentum, and how collaboration across sectors can deliver meaningful progress. The discussion highlighted actionable strategies for overcoming barriers, leveraging innovation, and prioritising efforts to build resilience while advancing global sustainability goals. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: You need a long-term vision and an integrated approach that incorporates new aspects of sustainability, combining housing, mobility, energy transition, water management and climate adaptation. It’s important to drill down into the detail, as cities often lose momentum when talking in very high conceptual terms rather than focusing on the plan of activity across the sustainability pillars. We learned that we can't just do things to places – we have to do things with communities and places. Priorities include adapting to increasing summer temperatures to ensure districts remain liveable and become better places to live. This includes improving parks and increasing tree cover. Stay tuned for a detailed summary coming soon.
