I'm at a loss to understand the poor reviews on this place. We stayed in room 110. It was warm and comfortable. Quite compact, but had everything we needed. Hair dryer, iron, L'Occitane toiletries, Dyson cool if you get hot, coffee maker, kettle, selection of tea and coffee, flat screen TV, safe, good WiFi everywhere. The towels were bright white, fluffy and warm, as the towel rail worked really well. Room was warm, but the windows opened and although we were ground floor, the place is in the middle of nowhere, so we weren't concerned. The bed, as others have said and complained about, was 2 singles pushed together, but it was fine, with a mattress topper. Very comfortable actually. The shower was good, nice hot water. We have stayed in hotels all over the world and even in 5* hotels, an actual, proper double bed is a rare thing. We went to the pub opposite for a drink (the Old Swan). Very rustic and atmospheric. Anything you buy can be added to your hotel bill as it is owned by same company. The staff in the pub and the hotel were all exceptionally friendly. We ate in the Wilding restaurant in the evening and had a fantastic meal. The staff couldn't do enough for us. Beautiful dining area, large open fire, again, very atmospheric. Cotswolds stone everywhere, some flagged floors, absolutely beautiful. The hotel grounds have a pretty, fast flowing stream running through it and they have power from it, using an Archemdes Screw in the water, a nice thing to see. The village itself is very picturesque and has public footpaths through the countryside. Breakfast was in the Wilding and was very good. We had a fantastic time and would recommend to anyone who enjoys rustic Cotswolds charm. Not for those who enjoy 5* soulless tower blocks. This is a quiet, idyllic, countryside retreat.
