this hotel is pretty good overall. No issues at all and would do it again

A little bit disappointed on dinner and breakfast, it wasn’t traditional Japanese hot spring dinner/breakfast setup.

The hotel was good overall, and the staff were the highlight in general. We only encountered one issue which was when we called reception in the early evening and the guy on the phone panicked due to a lack of English and hung up. The staff we met on reception in the day were fantastic. Additionally, the outdoor mixed Onsen is a nice feature, as it allowed for my wife and I to relax by the river together rather than being separated.

If you come to Kumano Kodo, you can't miss Kawayu Onsen! The hotel room is very large. Although the facilities are relatively old, it is clean and tidy. Dinner is a buffet. You can choose three times: 6:00, 6:30 and 7:30. The waiter will come to make the bed during dinner. Dinner has to be said to be beyond expectations. I tasted barbecue, oden, sukiyaki, and kamameshi at one time, and the quality of wagyu barbecue is very good, not inferior to the barbecue restaurants outside! The oden soup is also very delicious. After dinner, you can go to the hot spring. The indoor hot spring pool is separated by men and women, and you need to soak naked. The open-air public bath is mixed for men and women, but the hotel will provide special open-air bath yukatas, so you don't need to bring a swimsuit. The room has a river view. The breakfast on the second day is relatively average. After breakfast, take the hotel shuttle bus to the Prince of the Heart Gate. You need to make an appointment at the front desk the night before. There are three time periods of 8, 9, and 10 to choose from, so you don't have to catch the bus.

Very good hotel! I highly recommend this hotel for transit on the Kumano Kodo Trail. The outdoor bath is available at any time, and it is basically reserved for the morning and evening. Dinner is semi-buffet with a fixed small hot pot and sashimi. The rest is buffet like breakfast and very rich. The service is very good. We went down the mountain too late and missed the bus. We called the hotel and immediately sent a car to pick us up. Good review.

Although there is nothing to see around, I met a ********* guy at the hotel front desk, who provided very friendly service. I was tired from hiking and wanted to take a nap in the afternoon, so I immediately asked the waiter to lay the "tatami".

The hotel is old but the facilities are well maintained. There are Chinese speaking staff at the front desk. There is an indoor bath and a hot spring connected to the outdoor area. The surrounding area is not particularly convenient, but the hotel provides a pick-up service at a fixed time every day. I really wish I could stay here for two more nights.

To experience digging hot springs, you can borrow a shovel from the front desk, walk along the river for 10 minutes to the hot spring, dig a *stone hot spring pool by yourself, or borrow the one dug by the predecessors for repair. Note that adjusting the water temperature is a skill. The river water is cool, and the hot spring water is slightly turbid and has a sulfur smell. Effective mixing can enjoy the hot spring. You can lie in the hot spring at night to enjoy the stars, and the surroundings are quiet and only the sound of water can be heard. There is a large hot spring next to it that is open only in winter, and there will be lighting activities. Breakfast is also a buffet, with fewer varieties than dinner, and it is a pity that there is no raw egg rice. The environment of the hotel is good, the experience is very good, and I will consider it if I come again.
