Simatai Great Wall

The scenery is truly beautiful, but it's also really tough to climb. Luckily, there aren't many beacon towers, and there was no sun, otherwise, I would have exploded on the spot. The Simatai section of the Great Wall was initially built during the Chenghua period of the Ming Dynasty (1465-1487) and was essentially completed by the eighth year of the Wanli era (1580), as part of the Ji Town's western defense system at the Gubeikou Pass. This section of the Great Wall is divided into eastern and western parts by the Simatai Reservoir, with 15 enemy towers on the east and 18 on the west. This section features a variety of architectural forms, including single-sided walls, double-sided walls, barrier walls, sky ladders, climbing pathways, convenience gates, pass gates, and water gates. The enemy towers have one, two, three, or four windows, and the tops of the towers have wooden structures, arched tops, domed tops, and caisson ceilings. There are also uniquely characteristic features such as the Qilin shadow wall and the Wangjing Tower, which is more than 900 meters above sea level. Known for its breathtaking, dangerous, strange, majestic, and complete characteristics, it has been praised by Great Wall expert Mr. Luo Zhewen as 'the best of the Great Wall of China.'
