Experience the Astonishing Zodiac Heads Exhibition at MGM Macau

The MGM Macau Museum is currently showcasing four of the original bronze zodiac heads from the Old Summer Palace: the Monkey, Ox, Tiger, and Pig. These remarkable artifacts will be on display until mid to late January next year, after which replicas will replace them. Notably, the Pig head was acquired by the renowned patriotic entrepreneur Ho Hung Sun and donated to the Poly Art Museum. The exhibition is beautifully curated, featuring specially designed non-reflective glass, making it a perfect spot for photos. The bronze heads, cast in red copper, have withstood the test of time, with every strand of hair visible. Historical Background: These zodiac heads date back to the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty. They were designed by Italian court painter Giuseppe Castiglione, supervised by French missionary Michel Benoist, and crafted by Chinese court artisans. Originally, they were part of the fountain in front of the Haiyantang at the Old Summer Palace, serving both decorative and timekeeping purposes. Each zodiac head would spout water at its corresponding hour, with all twelve spouting simultaneously at noon.
