Shenzhen Hiking - Wutong Mountain (18)

There are two routes to the top of Wutong Mountain from the North Gate: 1. Take the mountain road to the mountain top platform, then take the Hero Slope to the top. The mountain road is about 7–8 km long (this is an approximate value based on my recorded mileage from several hikes, as I couldn't find any official data). The mountain road is relatively easy and is a good place to see flowers in spring. The Hero Slope is 1,100 m long and, as the name suggests, is a difficult climb. 2. Take the Taishan Stream Trail, which is 4,511 m long and leads directly to the top of Wutong Mountain. There are two forks in the road where you can switch to the mountain road, namely the Wind Chime Trail and the Gourd Trail, and another fork that leads to the mountain top platform. * The archway at the North Gate is the Wutong Mountain Archway. If I'm not specifically going to see flowers, I usually take the Taishan Stream Trail. Less than 100 m after entering the archway, you'll see a sign for the "Taishan Stream Trail Entrance" on the right. There is also a map of the entire Wutong Mountain Scenic Area nearby. I'm not sure if the map is unclear, but people often ask for directions here, such as "Where can I see the yellow tabebuia trees?" and "Where does this path lead?" The most confusing question is when people ask "How far is it to Hongfa Temple from here?" Uh... I actually tried starting from here, crossing over Wutong Mountain and Little Wutong Mountain, and then going down to Hongfa Temple on the mountainside of Little Wutong Mountain. It took me five hours, and even if I hadn't gone to the top of Wutong Mountain, it probably wouldn't have been much faster. Okay, back to the Taishan Stream Trail. After entering the entrance, you'll walk up a relatively gentle slope and then join the mountain road. Cross the road and you'll see an older "Taishan Stream" stone tablet. This is the real entrance to the Taishan Stream Trail. The 4,511 m trail starts here. Do you feel like the previous path was a waste of time? After entering the Taishan Stream Trail, you'll walk down a long, long flight of stairs, which makes the previous climb feel like a waste of effort.
