Hanoi’s Hoàn Kiếm Lake, a serene escape in the city’s bustling Old Quarter, is surrounded by charming cafés that offer not just delicious drinks but also stunning views of this iconic landmark. Exploring these spots is a must-do for visitors looking to unwind while soaking in Hanoi’s rich culture and tranquil scenery.
One standout café is The Note Coffee, known for its cozy atmosphere and walls covered with heartfelt sticky notes from visitors around the world. Enjoy a creamy egg coffee here, a signature Vietnamese creation that combines strong coffee with whipped egg yolk for a rich, velvety treat.
Another gem is Highlands Coffee, perched above the lake with panoramic views. This spot is perfect for sipping iced Vietnamese coffee (cà phê sữa đá) while watching the city’s vibrant life unfold below. Its spacious seating and welcoming ambiance make it a favorite for locals and travelers alike.
For a more traditional experience, visit Thuy Ta Coffee, located right on the edge of the lake. Its outdoor seating offers unparalleled views of the iconic Turtle Tower and the serene waters, creating the perfect setting for a peaceful afternoon.
Fun fact: Egg coffee was invented in Hanoi during the 1940s due to a milk shortage, and it has since become a beloved staple of Vietnamese café culture.
From cozy hideaways to scenic rooftop spots, the cafés around Hoàn Kiếm Lake are as diverse as Hanoi itself. Whether you’re seeking a caffeine fix or simply a quiet moment by the water, these charming locales are sure to leave a lasting impression.

Hanoi, a city that you will never forget.
Coming to Hanoi is like walking into a vivid painting. The old and the modern are intertwined here, and tradition and fashion collide here.
Let's talk about the old streets of Hanoi first. It's like a time tunnel, taking you back to the past. The narrow streets are lined with colorful French-style buildings, and the bright colors seem to tell the stories of the past. The small shops on the street are full of goods, some selling traditional handicrafts, some selling special snacks, and some are full of literary and artistic cafes. Walking in the old streets, you can hear the melodious music played by street artists, and see locals sitting leisurely on the side of the road drinking coffee and chatting. The pace of life here is slow, and people's mood can't help but relax.
The Sword Lake in Hanoi is a major highlight. The lake is clear and green, surrounded by lush trees. During the day, the sun shines on the lake, sparkling, and it is beautiful. There are many people walking and exercising by the lake, and some people are quietly reading on the benches by the lake. At night, the lights on the lake light up, and the entire Sword Lake becomes dreamlike. You can rent a small boat and sway gently on the lake, feeling the comfort of the breeze.
The Temple of Literature in Hanoi is also worth a visit. This is the ancient academy of Vietnam, full of strong cultural atmosphere. The architecture of the Temple of Literature is antique, with red walls and green tiles, and carved beams and painted buildings. Inside, Confucius and his disciples are enshrined, which makes people marvel at the inheritance of Chinese traditional culture in Vietnam. In the Temple of Literature, you can enjoy exquisite calligraphy works and ancient cultural relics, and understand the ancient Vietnamese education system and cultural traditions.
Speaking of Hanoi's food, it is really mouth-watering. The first thing to mention is Vietnamese pho. The delicious soup, smooth rice noodles, plus tender beef and various side dishes, you will never forget it after a bite. There are also spring rolls, thin skins wrapped with various vegetables and meat, dipped in special sauce, refreshing taste. Hanoi's coffee is also very distinctive, the strong coffee aroma plus sweet condensed milk, it is memorable. In the streets and alleys of Hanoi, you can find a snack stall or coffee shop anytime, anywhere, and taste these delicious foods.
The people of Hanoi are also very enthusiastic and hospitable. They always smile and are willing to help others. If you encounter difficulties in your journey, they will not hesitate to lend a helping hand. Here, you can feel the warmth and sincerity between people.
There are ancient buildings, beautiful scenery, delicious food and enthusiastic people. If you haven't been to Hanoi yet, hurry up and put it on your travel list! I believe you will have an unforgettable time here.

What we did in Hanoi: ✧ Walked around Hoan Kiem Lake in the morning it was really nice walking around at 7am and seeing everyone slowly start their day in the morning. there were so many elderly people doing tai chi, zumba, fishing and playing badminton around the park and opening their shops, really interesting to see.
Hoan Kiem Lake is really pretty at night as well, we stopped by there again to watch the sunset and take some pix ~
✧ Exploring Old Quarter There were so many streets selling different things like clothes, gifts, snacks and more and the Old Quarter really comes alive at night. And they do hold a huge night market every Saturday.
✧ Hang Da Market we visited their underground level which is where they sell secondhand clothes, shoes and accessories. went there to thrift but be prepared to haggle a lil bcuz they really raise the price up so much for tourists and are very insistent on you purchasing something even if youre just lookin around 😭
✧ Choc Dong Tac Market one huge giant thrift market, they have rows and rows of shops just selling secondhand clothes and for cheap! when i say its just mountains of clothes they really are mountains…some clothes are just lying on the floor in the shops and getting stepped on 😀 you just gotta have the patience and stamina to dig through everything…..def can find some really nice pieces here
✧ HieuSecondhand and Tiem Cassette Nau not really thrift but a shop selling vintage clothes and they had a second level selling casettes and records (Tiem Casette)! pretty nice place and they had a lot of vintage designer items for an okay price.
✧ Ta Hien Beer Street VERY crowded place but very happening!!! promoters will be trying to pull you in to their bars/restaurants just make sure you take note of your belongings and also the guys here abit pervy so just be careful 😵💫 lots of bars to try and is also the main street where all the clubs are!
✧ St Joseph’s Cathedral stopped by at night because they were having a mini christmas event so we came to take some pics! it was really crowded tho but cathedral was pretty, i think it looked nicer at night with all the lights
✧ Vincom Centre just a standard shopping mall, i think its one of their biggest malls there
✧ Trang Tien Plaza one of the fancier malls i’ve seen, its so pretty at night and all the big designer brands are there.
✧ Nightclubs didnt manage to go but heres some of the clubs i heard are good from the locals there and my friends: 🕺Club 1900 🕺The Circle 🕺The Unicorn

Recommended day trip course in Hanoi, Vietnam!
Here are some hot recommendations for Hanoi, Vietnam travel courses!
Hanoi city center has more things to see and eat than you might think, so it's a city that you can enjoy in a day!
We started with Bun Cha as soon as we arrived, and tasted the Vietnamese condensed milk coffee, Sua Da, St. Joseph's Cathedral, and Hoan Kiem Lake, all famous Hanoi attractions in one day.
Here are some of the best courses I've recommended.
1. Bun Cha
Bun Cha is a very common food in Hanoi, so if there's a place that says Bun Cha on the sign, it's okay!
I've been to many Bun Cha restaurants in Hanoi, and I've never been disappointed. If you're not looking for a restaurant that caters to tourists, it's also good to try it at a restaurant with a local atmosphere!
That means Bun Cha is a dish that never fails...
2. St. Joseph's Cathedral
40 Nha Chung Hang Trong, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi 100000 Vietnam
This is a neo-Gothic cathedral built in 1886, and it's worth a visit. It is usually open, but tourists are not allowed to enter during certain times due to local prayer times, so I recommend checking before going!
3. Vietnamese Condensed Milk Coffee (Ca Phe Sua Da)
Condensed milk coffee is a must-drink when you come to Vietnam!
Coconut coffee is also famous, but I especially like condensed milk coffee…
And it was a bit hard to find Vietnamese condensed milk coffee in Korea.
Even people who don’t usually drink coffee because of its bitter taste can enjoy it!
4. Hoan Kiem Lake (Hoankiem River)
Hanoi 100000 Vietnam
The first lake that comes to mind when you think of Hanoi.
A great place to take a walk. Personally, it’s a really good place to take a walk after dinner rather than during the day!

#citywalk An enchanting journey through the timeless streets of Hanoi's Old Quarter.
It's a place where history whispers through every weathered building, and the city's soul comes alive. Wander through narrow alleyways, each revealing a new piece of Vietnam's rich heritage.
As you explore, let your senses be your guide. Inhale the fragrant aroma of street food wafting from bustling stalls, from savory pho to crispy banh mi. Immerse yourself in the rhythm of daily life, where craftsmen create intricate lacquerware and exquisite silk garments.
Discover the heart of Hanoi through my lens, where every corner tells a story, and every step is an adventure waiting to unfold.

Hanoi
Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam,
It is also the cultural capital of Vietnam.
Temples and churches, ancient streets and theaters...
Strolling in Hanoi, discoveries everywhere.
The beauty of the fusion between the East and the West.
St. Joseph's Cathedral, the oldest Catholic church in Hanoi, has a Gothic architectural style that gives it a hint of the charm of Notre Dame de Paris. The exquisite stained glass inside the church is worth seeing, with each depicting a different biblical story. Hoan Kiem Lake, located in the center of Hanoi, is a great place for local residents to relax and play. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, the lakeside road turns into a huge open-air night market, where you can enjoy the lake view and taste roadside snacks. Water puppetry is a traditional stage play in Vietnam, with stories mostly drawn from folk life. Puppeteers need to stand underwater to manipulate the puppets, which is a great test of skill. The Thang Long Water Puppet Theater in Hanoi still offers the opportunity to enjoy such traditional drama.

A romantic walk by the Hanoi lake
Not long ago I was walking around the Hoàn Khiêm lake nd I was surprised to see so many couples having a good time over there, walking around, taking pictures, getting some drinks or eating street foods and snacks.
I met someone there who became a very close friend of mine and I wish those memories stay with me to cherish those moments.

Lake of Returned Sword
Hoan Kiem Lake is a 12 ha fresh water lake located in the historical center of Hanoi, also known as Sword Lake.
The banks of the lake are popular for the locals to do morning exercise, since the lake is not so big, visitors tend to walk around this peaceful and beautiful lake, especially on the weekend.
In the middle of the lake is a small island with a small stone pagoda, but you cannot go there, because there are no bridges or boats to the island.
The Ly Thai To statue which is a large bronze sculpture of the founder of the Ly dynasty of Vietnam was erected in 2004.
There are people playing games, children riding motorized cars, people taking beautiful photoshoots, vendors selling snacks, souvenirs, drawing pictures and many more for you to discover.

The denomination of banknotes is very large🤣
It’s not very cost-effective to exchange back to Taiwan dollars🤣😅
Everyone can be a wealthy person here🤣🤣🤣
I spend hundreds of thousands or millions on eating🤪😉
We currently calculate based on the fact that 100,000VND is approximately equal to NT$128‼ ️
Of course, the exchange rate changes every day
My boyfriend and I bought it
Coconut milk yogurt 20000VND I think it’s delicious😘
The coconut popsicle is also 20,000VND and contains coconut fruit pieces.
I ate authentic baguette in Sanliu Ancient Street🥖
2pcs 75000VND
Add pork trotters, meat skewers and some coriander and mint leaves, it’s delicious😋
I drank ice tea (the taste is a bit similar to Taiwan’s frozen lemon tea)
There is also egg coffee coffee egg (40000VND)☕️
Highly recommend egg coffee, a unique drink in Hanoi
This is not available in other countries‼ ️👍
Meat skewers 30,000VND, unique flavor, appetizing and delicious
Although it is a street vendor, no wonder there are so many people queuing up👍

When you are visiting the Old Quarters in Hanoi, don't forget to drop by the Hoan Kiem Lake also called the sword Lake or Lake of the returned sword. Not sure of the story here but basically jts a Lake that is smack right in the middle of the Old Quarters.
The Lake is an attraction especially if you follow tour groups and they will tell you about the beauty and architecture, history and people that surrounds this Lake. Do becareful of con artists here that takes money from you to tell you that the Lake require an entrance fee, its free! The only entrance fee require is the tickets into the pagoda and temples. So be wary!

Hoan Kiem Lake is the most famous scenic spot in Hanoi, Vietnam. It can also be said to be the central area. It is the most famous one among many large and small lakes. The whole lake is narrow and long in the north and has an elliptical shape. In the past, there were waterways connected with the Red River not far from the east. Later, it was cut off by the river bank. The trees around the lakeshore are verdant and covered with shade. The lake is crystal clear and quiet.
The shore is accompanied by wind towers, water rafts and other ancient buildings. The water is dotted with jade mountains, Qixu Bridge, Zhenbo Pavilion and Turtle Tower. The Turtle Tower and the One Pillar Temple are the landmarks here.
The Hoan Kiem Lake area is also a famous place for backpackers in Vietnam. Visitors from all over the world come to Hanoi to choose the hotel in Hoan Kiem Lake. There are many small streets near Hoan Kiem Lake. There are many stalls and performances in the evening. There are many food choices here, and the prices are quite cheap. You can sit on a bench on the street and leisurely drink some coffee.

Hoan Kiem Lake is located in the center of Hanoi's Old City. There are roundabouts around the lake. Many tourists or locals will come for a walk after a meal. There is also a turtle tower in the center of Hoan Kiem Lake. It was built in 1884. It is a small tower with a multi-layered spire. Hoan Kiem Lake is more like a patron saint to the locals. The whole river is built around this lake.

After the night, the Hoan Kiem Lake looked much better than the daytime. I found a restaurant in the boat house and tried cold spring rolls and delicious rice noodles! But then this rice noodle was tired because it was eaten every day.........
Walk around Huanjian Lake, this is actually a lake like Chinas casual university, and its a circle around, its surrounded by Hanoi. The most prosperous street, there is a good-looking celebration of the New Year's lighting, and a good Dior shop ~
Hoan Kiem Lake is really nothing to shoot, can only pat the flowers and plants ~ everywhere is a speeding motorcycle!
Huajian Lake is not finished in an hour or so. We started to visit the small street alleys. There are many exquisite small crafts~ tooth carvings and shell carvings are more distinctive, and there are nice little boxes. For the agricultural light industry countries like Vietnam, the work is particularly good at it. I finally saw a little advantage of the city~
I saw a scene on the side of the road, the performer sat under a particularly large banyan tree. Oops, the locals are particularly fascinated. When you look closely, there are three words "Encourage Pavilion" on the back. It should be a place where the performances of songs and dances are fixed. This name makes me feel very good, that is, there are drums and dances, and it can really be inspiring. I don't know if there is such a pun in Vietnamese.

Hoan Kiem Lake will gather tourists and locals in the afternoon, sit on the river and chat in the cold. During the day, it is a relatively ordinary lake. At night, there are lights on the river bank, and the night scene becomes very charming. It is worth seeing. .
This is a gathering place for boutiques and cafes, plus the unique French architecture and trees in Vietnam, where shopping is both leisurely and romantic. In order to find the coffee "Pho Co Coffee" recommended by James Food, we took a few trips on the ancient street. Here are the detailed routes, please take away, no thanks! There is a boat-shaped building in Hoan Kiem Lake. There is a 5-way intersection on the left. Just 5 meters to the west of the intersection, a shop selling clothes goes inside. There is an alley, walk through a black aisle, and walk in and suddenly become cheerful. Don't have a world. The store says it has a hundred years of history and is a traditional egg coffee. The first floor is a yard with a variety of potted plants. There are teahouses on the 4th and 5th floors, and you can see Hoan Kiem Lake. Adding the egg yolk to the foam and putting it on the coffee, it is indeed a special feature. It is no wonder that some people come here from time to time.
