A cute fishing village
Both Voldenham and Marken are offered as. aday trip from Amsterdam. During my lengthy stay and since I had a accomodaitons set in Utrecht at a friend's place. I did a lot of day trips from there. Thus ofcourse would have been closer form Amsterdam. But I saved much more on accomodaiton than the travel cost difference. My train journeys in Netherlands have been very comfortable.
So I figured out my transport options and chose trains over buses. The plan was to ride a train to Volendam, explore and then get a boat to marken. It worked out perfectly well. Marken is a cute fishing village. It has a boutique sort of colorful appearance. Like with me, most people come here for the laid back atmosphere. There is no long list of things to see. But it's more about strolling seeing this beautiful village, it's canals, gardens, the church and port. You've got some places go eat as well. Perfectly suited for that half day from volendam.
