This time, 492 sets of 788 cultural relics from different periods of ancient Egyptian civilization, collected from dust and transported, are displayed in the first floor space of Shangbo. We visited the Jade Hall, Ceramics Hall, Cultural Relics Restoration Hall, Currency Hall, Bronze Hall, and Sculpture Hall in sequence. The museum was crowded and everyone was in high spirits. We were also impressed by the long history of Chinese civilization and the diligence and wisdom of the ancients. The Shanghai Museum is one of the three major museums in China. Located on the south side of Shanghai's People's Square, the four-story building displays over 100,000 items, divided into 11 exhibition areas including bronzeware, ceramics, calligraphy, paintings, and coins. Among them, the most eye-catching are the bronzeware from about 4,000 years ago. There is almost no rust, and they are so beautiful that it is hard to believe your eyes. Normally, you would think that there would be no more left because of rust, or that even if there were any, they would have decayed away, so it was a surprise. In Japan, the phrase "4,000 years of China" is common, but if you calculate from the Xia Dynasty in the 21st century BC, which is the subject of this exhibition, it is 4,000 years old. Meanwhile, in China, the accepted theory seems to be that China has been around for 5,000 years. (I looked it up and found that there are ruins in Zhejiang Province that are 5,000 years old, so I have to go see them.) Whether it's 4,000 or 5,000 years, it's a different length of ancient history compared to Japan's 2,000 years. During one of trips to Shanghai about 5 years ago one of the places we've been to is the Yu Garden also know as Yuyuan. It lies next to the City God Temple in Shanghai’s Old City, which was dedicated to the city’s spirits, or protectors, in the 1400s. The classic Chinese-style gardens, complete with rockeries, ponds, pavilions and towers, feature several distinct areas separated by grey tiled ridges called “dragon walls”. The area surrounding the gardens holds endless opportunities to try street food and buy souvenirs. If you can’t make it to Suzhou in Jiangsu province, which is better known for its gardens, Yuyuan will surely not failed you. Next is Shanghai Disneyland. Many of the rides, attractions and characters have been redesigned to cater to a Chinese tourist audience. A group of Chinese zodiac gardens make up its centre – with the 12 animals represented by Disney characters – and instead of Main Street USA, there is Mickey Avenue. There’s also more live entertainment here than in other Disney theme parks. It’s a great choice if you need a break from traditional sightseeing in Shanghai And if ever you feel tired being surrounded by tourist crowds, I highly recommended Wan Shan bird and flower market. Flowers are sold alongside pet birds, fish, chinchillas and even crickets – from the tiny to the unnervingly massive – in this market, which sits at the junction of Tibet Road and Huiji Road. You’ll also find potted plants, such as bonsai trees and succulents, on sale. Antiques and jade are also sold nearby, in case you’re good for small mammals, and your aquarium and window box are both fully stocked. Temples can be a great way to find peace within the noise of Shanghai tourism and city life in general, whether or not you are religious. The Buddhist temple of Longhua is the oldest in the city and has a fascinating history, from its inception in 242CE to i#spooktaculartrip s use as a Japanese-run internment camp during World War II. Getting There - Near Dashijie subway station. Attractions - Plenty of exhibitions such as: Ceramics, ancient Chinese sculpture, painting calligraphy, ancient Silk Road coins, and many more! My personal favorite was the calligraphy exhibition. Food & Restaurants - There are places where you can buy drinks and snacks. I unfortunately didn’t have much time when I went but I saw plenty of other visitors with headsets. Not sure what the language options are but if you have enough time, I’d recommend getting a pair. I stayed for about 2 hours but I’d recommend over 3 hours if you don’t have a time constraint. 🧭 Shanghai History Museum is one of the most interesting museums were you can learn really a lot. 🧭 Getting there these days you need to make a reservation through wechat. Otherwise there is no way to get inside. Arrive in time, stand for a while in a line and here u go. You DO need and audio guide, cause without it you will be wondering around without knowing anything. 🧭 The couns exhibition hall is quite impressive, it showed Chinese coins of all kinds and shapes, some of them are bigger than my hand. The halls with traditional paintings and ceramis are amazing as well. The Shanghai Museum is hosting a display from a Tang Dynasty shipwreck. Many examples of exquisitely made porcelain from all over ancient China illustrate how the maritime Silk Road worked. It is located in Renmin Avenue, Huangpu District, across the road from the famous Peoples Square, which eats fried chicken. The building of the Shanghai Museum looks particularly like a cornucopia from the outside. Baidu Encyclopedia said that the overall structure is a combination of a square base and a round out of the building, with the meaning of China's round place. I probably believe it this way. A few basic exhibitions, the first one I went to was the ancient ceramics hall. Oops, sigh, its really a lot of good things that have never been concentrated on a large scale. Collections can best reflect the basic level of a museum. Starbucks Roastery though a bit expensive but worth a visit for their specially crafted coffee drinks. Head to Tongli Water Town through Suzhou by bullet train to visit the Venice of China and explore a little Chinese ancient town. Go on a weekday to avoid crowds! End off the trip by exploring more of Shanghai that must include the famous Shanghai Museum.

#familytravel to Shanghai and visiting Shanghai Museum. We were asked to book this special exhibition to enter the museum as the free entries to the museum had already sold out. The reservation needs at least a week or two ahead to secure the free entry. If the museum is sold out, do not rush to buy like us. It was utterly crowded and noisy. You could not view a single exhibit in peace. The paid special exhibition were three galleries on ground floor. The price we paid for was a bit hefty. The Chinese galleries were awesome.
