The Iconic Hong Kong Tram: A Ride Through History
The Hong Kong tramway, affectionately known as the "Ding Ding," is one of the city’s most iconic and charming modes of transport. Operating since 1904, it’s not just a means of getting around but also a moving piece of history.
One of the most fascinating features of these trams is their double-decker design. These two-story trams were introduced to maximize passenger capacity on Hong Kong's narrow and busy streets. They remain the only fully double-decker tram system in the world, offering passengers unique views of the city from the top deck.
Riding the tram is incredibly affordable, with fares averaging just $0.30–$0.50 USD per trip, making it a budget-friendly way to explore. The trams are also known for their bright and colorful exteriors, often wrapped in eye-catching advertisements that add vibrancy to the streets of Hong Kong.
The tram system runs exclusively on the northern side of Hong Kong Island, connecting key districts like Central, Wan Chai, and Causeway Bay. It's not just practical but also environmentally friendly, as it’s entirely powered by electricity.
Hop aboard, grab a seat on the upper deck, and enjoy the slow-paced ride through Hong Kong's bustling streets—it’s a must-try experience that blends tradition with modernity.

The Peak Tram
The ride takes just 7-8 minutes, but climbs at an extremely steep gradient to an altitude of 396 metres, making it feel almost vertical.
How do I get to The Peak by tram 🚋
From Central, take bus 15 or X15 from Exchange Square (MTR Central Station Exit A / MTR Hong Kong Station Exit B1) to the terminus at Peak Galleria, or minibus 1 from Two ifc (MTR Hong Kong Station Exit F) to Peak Galleria. Alternatively, you can take the Peak Tram from Garden Road to the Peak Tower.

Last HKT ride
I have no idea why but since I was a child, I always loved trams 🚋 not as much as I love airplanes but still…
When ever I am have a chance to ride a tram to get from A to B then I am 100% in! 😁
My last night in Hong Kong - I have not much to do as it is late ⏰ So, I decided to get on a tram and just enjoy the beauty of the city.
Well, I have to say that it was a great idea, I loved watching illuminated skyscrapers of Hong Kong, locals going home after a long and hard day. A couple holding hands and waiting for a tram on the station, very tired man sitting next to me, trying not to fall asleep as he definitely didn’t want to miss his stop.
