Simatai Great Wall Hiking Towers 1-10
I didn’t lose my breath once .. I lost it many times while hiking up this part of the Great Wall.
Not just because it was epically beautiful but also unexpectedly challenging, even in the reconstructed parts.
Giving away the details:
Simatai Great Wall, Beijing W.Town (about 2km both ways), about 170km from Beijing
This Wall part is limited by distance, both right and left of it are closed and inaccessible.
But this 2km require enough effort if you want to climb from Tower 1 to Tower 10, all the way up the hill. For average tourists it takes about 1.5-2h to climb it up and 1h to go down.
Not so crowded as other parts of the Wall, and it gives tons opportunity to regret you didn’t take enough liquid (I gave my water to a family who totally dehydrated and suffered under the strong sun).
How to get there:
Beijing to Gubeikou village by train (12¥)
Gubeikou to Beijing Water Town by taxi (30¥)
Get an entrance ticket in Water Town, shuttle included (40¥)
Repeat the way back or take a direct tourists bus to Beijing

Mutianyu Great Wall
The Mutianyu section of the Great Wall is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience one of the new seven workers of the world.
I recommend you to go there early in the morning to avoid crowds. We went there around 8 am and it wasn’t busy at all. However, on our way out around 12 am there was a long queue with many people waiting.
Mutianyu offers a very peaceful and pleasant experience. The architecture is well-preserved and it is surrounded by greenery. Definitely the panoramic views are breathtaking.
Highly recommend it!

Where does The Great wall end?
#naturalbeauty Have you ever wondered where does The Great Wall of China end on the eastern side?
Well, if you follow the wall from end-to-end, it eventually runs into the sea! This site can be seen in a small village in Qinhuangdao city.
An interesting note is I took these photos in spring time just after most of the snow melted. A definite recommendation to visit as most tourist locations along The Great Wall are usually very busy, this little town is magnificent with a lot of cultural history!
A local hotel is very affordable and the people are very friendly and hospitable. The food they cook mouthwatering delicious!
Chairman Mao once said "不去长城 非好汉" (Bù qù chángchéng fēi hǎohàn) - "He who has not been to the Great Wall is not a true man"

Beijing in Bloom!
Beijing is a city that perfectly captures the essence of China's rich history and vibrant modernity. As the capital, it’s home to some of the country’s most iconic landmarks, from the majestic Great Wall and the ancient Forbidden City to the serene Temple of Heaven. Each site offers a deep dive into China’s imperial past. Yet, Beijing is also a bustling metropolis with a dynamic art scene, cutting-edge architecture, and modern amenities. The city's hutongs (narrow alleys) provide a charming contrast to its grand avenues, giving visitors a glimpse of traditional life. The food in Beijing is exceptional, with Peking duck being a must-try delicacy. Whether you're exploring its historical treasures, enjoying its diverse culinary scene, or experiencing its lively nightlife, Beijing offers a fascinating journey through time and culture.#beijing #forbiddencity #greatwall #china
The Great wall experience!
You can use the trip app to purchase Great wall tickets.
Highly recommend to pick the 200 yuan ticket per person as it gives you the option to ride the bus from the gate to the Great wall's Kabel cars which you will also need. As it's quite far from the gate.
Sun screen and a hat is needed!
There are snacks and drinks to buy on the wall so if you have your phone with you you will be okay. There is really a need to bring other things or a bag if you don't want to.
You will sweat. (a lot)
If you have a camera take it as the phone's won't do it justice.
Most shops close "early" so just be aware of that (usually 18:00)
#greatwall
🕰️Business Hours for shops (usually): 08:00 to 18:00
🏖️BAmbiance/Facilities: I did not see any bathrooms om the wall so know this before going.
📍Address: Mutianyu Great wall (type it in Didi you'll find it)

Exploring the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu 🇨🇳
After 3 years of living in China, I finally made it to the Great Walk of China! 🇨🇳
🎫 I booked a tour which provided the ticket and transport from Beijing, about a 2 hour bus ride.
📅 I visited in March, the weather was not too hot or cold and the crowds were low.
🚠 I chose to take the cable car up to tower 14. You can also hike up or even choose to slide back down the hill!
⛰️ The highest point you can walk to on the Mutianyu Great Wall is tower 23. It takes about 1.5 hours to walk there from tower 14.
📸 For the best photos, I definitely recommend hiking up to tower 23. It gets quite steep towards the end, but it worth it for the beautiful view!
🥢 At the entrance, you can find many souvenir shops and restaurants.
🌟 Overall, I had an amazing time here. The group trip was the perfect way for me to visit the Great Wall of China and it was an incredible day hiking and seeing the beautiful views!

Running on the great wall
Have you ever tried running on the Great Wall of China? I have!
#greatwall #china #running
Badalin! The most convenient part of the Great Wall.
Every time I come to China I go to the Great Wall first. Badalin part is the most convenient to get. I took the bus 877 from Zhonglou station. You’ll see the arrows pointing to the bus stop. You can head to the big brick tower. The buses stop along it. It took about one hour to reach the destination. And it cost 6 rmb. I went there at a weekday so the Wall wasn’t crowded. The weather was nice. A very pleasant pastime. #Badalin #Beijing #greatwall
📍Address: 八达岭长城 北京市延庆区
Mutianyu 慕田峪长城 ⛰️
Mutianyu (慕田峪长城) is one of the best-preserved and most picturesque sections of the Great Wall of China. It is located in the mountains 70 km northeast of Beijing. I liked this section of the wall much more than Badaling (八达岭).
You can get here with a tour group or on your own. If you're going independently, you need to get to the Dongzhimen Public Transport Hub (东直门交通枢纽), take bus 916块, get off at the final stop Huairou Beidajie (怀柔北大街), cross the road, take bus H23, get off at Mutianyu Huandao (慕田峪环岛). Then walk back a little and you'll see the entrance to the ticket offices.
Before the entrance to the wall, there is a parking lot, souvenir shops, and cafes. You can buy a ticket for the cable car and ride it to the 14th tower, then walk in either direction. I also recommend buying a ticket for the toboggan ride down from the Great Wall. It costs 100 yuan.
The wall itself runs along the mountain ridges, rising to a height of 1,000 meters above sea level. The views are simply stunning - endless crenellated walls wind along the mountain ridges, disappearing into the distance. It's especially beautiful here on a clear day.
Walking along the wall is quite a challenge due to the numerous steps and steep climbs. But the effort is worth it - the sight of the ancient stone structures, shrouded in legends and history, is mesmerizing.
Overall, Mutianyu left an indelible impression on me. It is one of the must-see attractions when visiting Beijing and China. I recommend setting aside at least half a day to leisurely stroll along the wall and enjoy the views.

Tips for a perfect day at the Mutianyu Great Wall 🇨🇳
#cherryblossom2024
Read this and have the best experience possible ‼️
The Great Wall was constructed on the top of the mountain chains. So the first thing to know is that there are multiple ways and combinations to go up and down the mountain:
They are:
🥾 Hiking
🚠 Cable car (closed cabin)
🚡 Cable way (opened cabin)
🛝 Slide way (only goes down)
❌ Don’t do what I did. I bought cable car up and down. That means I have to walk on the wall to my preferred path (right or left) then go back exactly the same way to get the cable car down.
That’s a bad choice because it’s tiring and you don’t see anything new on the way back, only the same views.
💚 The best route is to take the cable car up, walk to the right side towards the cable way and slide way. This path takes about 1h30min.
You can go a bit further if you want, until the end of the accessible path of the wall, then go back to the cable way or slide.
To go down you can take the cable way or the slide. Both start at the same point at the wall.
Summary:
🔼cable car up
➡️ walk 1.5 hours to the right
🔽 cable way or slide down
Total cost 245 💴
🤑 Prices breakdown:
Entrance: 45 yuan
🚠 cable car or 🚡cable way
Round trip 140 💰
One way 100 💰
🛝 Slide way
Only down 40 💰

A true man shall Discover Great Wall of China

people often quote “who has not been to Great Wall of China is not a true man”
Finally I did it. And one bucket list off the list ✅
if you are in Beijing you could just arrange a day tour to Great Wall of China from trusted agent . I taking the join-in tour for my trip.
you will need to meet a driver in a meeting point and they will pick you up. you can choose the language of the guide if you can’t understand Chinese .
is really a informative tour , guide will explain the attraction along the journey so you won’t get bored . the tour including the attraction fees but not the funicular fees.
be prepare for a long walk if you wanted to visit Great Wall of China , be comfortable and wear a really comfortable shoes . you required to walk alot. you can opt to take down by funicular ride if you are tiring. I choose to walk down from the peak.
the view is really impressive , you really should visit Great Wall of China if you are here . better to see it in your eyes
one more thing, is full of people on the bridge up and down is hard to get a good angle for a nice picture . most of the picture are human background :)

Sunrise on the great wall.
I'm not a person who makes habit of getting up before the sun, but on this occasion, I've made an exception more than once. I must admit, I have rarely felt more at peace than I have when sitting on the wall as the sun comes up, and funnily enough, I didn't feel the need to return to sleep. If you are in Beijing, head up to Gubeikou and wake up early for the Great sunrise, then you can take a day trip to the Gubei water town from there.

Easiest Section of the Great Wall 🇨🇳
#timetotravel
I am fortunate enough to have visited 3 differents sections of the Great Wall of China. Whenever I visited Beijing I always made sure that I explore a different part of this massive and impressive work of the Chinese people. Wherever you look is just spectacular and breathtaking. This section is the most visited section of the great wall as it is the closest to Beijing. It is only an hour away so a lot of tourists opt to go here insted. It is the most commercialized and the most restored too but there are a lot of areas that have been preserved as well. I often think of the people who built this magnificent structure that has become one of the most protected heritage in the world. It is mind blowing to be completely honest. We took a tour package that included the other tourist spots in Beijing so we didn't have to worry on how to get here by ourselves but if you are going to make you way there then it is easy. From Beijing North Railway Station to Badaling Great Wall Railway Station. Yes, you can reach this fascinating place in just 30 minutes by high speed trains. Enjoy your trip to the Great Wall.

A Must SEE in Beijing 🇨🇳
#timetotravel
I have been to 3 different parts of the Great Wall and this one was the first! I never get enough of the great wall to be honest, i am just always amazed to see it's beauty and knowing more about it everytime I go visit it. This Mutiayu area of the great wall is less crowded and less commercialized. You can still see the authenticity of the greatwall without all of the renovated sections. It has undergone less restoration work so for me this is better than the other section of the great wall in Beijing. It is farther but for me it didn't matter because I just wanted to see different parts of the greatwall of China.
Entrance fee: 40 rmb addtional payment if you are going to take the cable car and do the slide (tobogan ride) down. Enjoy your greatwall experience!

Where The Great Wall Meets the Sea🇨🇳
#timetotravel
This is a very unique way in seeing the great wall of China. I have been to different parts of the great wall and this one is very special for me as I see one of the ends of the great wall where it touches the sea. A very cool place to visit where there aren't a lot of tourists unlike the ones that you see in Beijing. I mean those are highly recommended too but if you want to see one of the ends of the Great Wall then this place is a must visit. You can reach this place by bullet trains that leave Beijing for about 100 rmb (it depends on the seat that you get). Travel time is about 2 -3 hours depending on where is your starting point in Beijing.
Entrace ticket: 40 rmb
Enjoy!

Shanhaiguan’s Great Wall Trip!!
Hey Travel Fam!! It’s about a small trip of one day from Jinzhou but we enjoyed the whole day.. The Dragon’s head, it is the ending of the Great Wall & this is the place where the Great Wall meets the sea.. As you know the Great Wall is over 20k kilometers and was built by many dynasties. This is Shanhaiguan (山海关), one of the major passes in the Great Wall of China, being the easternmost stronghold along the Ming Great Wall.
Trip details: 📍Shanhaiguan (山海关),
1.After reaching railway station you need to take a taxi, the local drivers have trip plans to places you want to see. don’t forget to bargain!!😁. For us we planned for a Great Wall [two parts, one in mountains which is called the nine gates of Great Wall on water (水上长城九门口) & the Dragon’s head (长城之首老龙头)] and First pass under heaven (天下第一关) and drop at railway station at the end including waiting at these three places total- 80yuans/head
2. Ticket price at nine gates of Great Wall on water (水上长城九门口) - 40yuans/head and extra 10yuans for a ride to go near the wall
3. Ticket price at the Dragon’s head (长城之首老龙头)- 25yuans (using student Id), 50yuans (normal)
4. The first pass - we didn’t go inside due to time , we took pictures from outside.
That’s all Folks!! See you again !! Have a safe and fun loaded trip!

Mutainyu Great Wall experience is definitely meant to fulfill your touristy spirit. Great for pictures and being able to say you did the damn thing. Both the chair lift up and the toboggan down made my inner child happy. Also, if you are someone who likes to go off the beaten path, there are cute hiking trails with picnic areas along side the Great Wall. Great wall relics🏯near The Wave Valley,Yulin 🤩
Relics of Great wall in the middle of nowhere 🕵, that are just as awesome as the restored parts🤩. Near Yulin in Shaanxi province, It is hard to believe you are standing next to the remains of a structure that has been standing for over 1000 years🇨🇳🏯 , even more in some sections.
📍The easiest way to reach this section is as you🚗 drive left out of The Wave Canyon carpark towards G307, 3 minutes in on your right, You can begin to see relics of he watch towers🏯, look out for he grey and silver plaques marking the relevance of these finds. As you continue to drive up the hill you can see the dusty bricks form the spine through the wavy landscape. Just beautiful 🤩😊#roadtrip #summervacation #china #shaanxi #greatwall #historicculture
M.O.T.A.S around the world Gubei Watertown - day trip out of Beijing
#urbanexplorer #daytrip #greatwall #gubeiwatertown
This water town by the foot of the Simatai section of the Great Wall is located in Miyun county. The town is surrounded by mountains, water and ancient style villages. This place has become more and more popular the recent years and we could feel that when walking around as there were a lot of people. The town is actually not that old but has been given characteristics as northern style architecture with history and culture of the late Qing dynasty. (1644-1911) the town is full of reconstructed buildings in courtyard style and hutong alleys.
We were recommended to be there at sunset so we opted to leave Dongzhimen at noon time and returned with the buss at nine in the evening. There are plenty of options to stay over night and I would like to do that next time.
Upon arrival you have to buy tickets to enter the gate and you will find signs for ticket office. In our entrance ticket we also got tickets for the Great Wall as well as the cable car to take you up.
Food - As we were starving when we arrived we found a place to eat by the river. Chinese home cooking style at a small restaurant where the owner also ran a bed and breakfast.
Local Liquor distillery - we had a quick look here, and it displays how they used to make their alcohol in the area.
Yongshun dye house - this is a good spot to take pictures with the different colors of the cloths hanging around. You can learn about cloth printing and dyeing here and even make your own prints into t shirts.
The last thing we did was taking the cable up to see the Great Wall at sunset. They run the cable during the evenings from 5:30 to until 22:00. We got a beautiful view and now I have seen a new part of the wall.
How to get there:
We simply took the bus from Dongzhimen. It was 49Rmb per person and we spent two hours to go there and one hour and 40 min to go back. This tourist bus from Dongzhimen leaves at 9:00, 12:00 and 15:30 and takes you all the way. Look for the bus: 古北水镇 Gubei Watertown. We paid after entering the bus. *They prefer cash but I think you may be able to pay with WeChat as well
Great Wall at Badaling
When: August 2019
No doubt that this is the number one destination when you heading to China. Take the cable car till the top and start walking. Be prepared for a huge crowd of people. This is the main place where tourist start their exploration of The Great Wall. I was so excited that it seemed to me that we were waking only an hour but actually we were walking for more than 5 hours.
Start your journey very early and don’t forget to buy the tickets in advance otherwise you will miss your chance.

Journey to Great Heights
As we arrived at the entrance of the Great Wall Mutianyu section, anticipation filled the air. We eagerly boarded a cable chair, we hopped on a cable chair that whisked us up the majestic mountains, revealing a breathtaking panorama. The view from the walls was nothing short of extraordinary, with the beautiful mountains stretching as far as the eye could see. The intricate architecture of the wall fascinated us, a testament to the ancient craftsmanship. To descend the mountain, we embarked on an exhilarating toboggan ride, gliding down on a chair slide that felt like a thrilling rollercoaster adventure. After reaching the bottom, we made our way back to the hotel, savoring a delicious Subway meal that perfectly complemented the unforgettable experience of exploring the Great Wall of China.

The Great Wall of China
One of the most iconic landmarks in China is undoubtedly the Great Wall which is situated in Beijing.
The wall is easy to access from the city and we hired a driver with the journey time taking about 2 hours each way. My biggest recommendation would be to go early (we left at 5am) as this is the best way to avoid the bigger crowds and allows some quality time on the wall. There are food stalls near the entrance of the wall and a slide down on one section! #china #mountainview #urbanexplorer #greatwall
Pretty Gubei Watertown outside Beijing
Gubei Watertown in Beijing's Miyun district is a little picturesque place where to spend a weekend out of the city.
There are many boutique hotels and local restaurants to try while wondering around aimlessly along the small canals and the quiet traditional alleys.
And don't forget to climb up the Great Wall before sunset to enjoy a beautiful views above the town! 🤩💕

Great Wall Heroes 🙌🙌🙌
Great Wall Heroes 长城好汉 Enemy tower N20, 748 meters above the sea.
We chose to go to Mutianyu because less visitors and tourists come here as this part of the wall is located more far away than Badalin Greta wall.
And we were never disappointed.
The view is breathtaking. Mountains are huge. The line of horizon seams so close that you think you can touch it.
Wear comfortable shoes and go go to explore!!!!

Beijing - Great Wall of China
This was one of the most amazing visits of my life. I have always wanted to visit The Great Wall and I was not disappointed!
I decided to visit the Mutianyu section of The Great Wall as it is restored and not as busy as other sections. I visited in January and therefore it was off-season and opened at 8am. I got a taxi from downtown Beijing and the drive took about an hour and a half. I made sure to arrive at exactly 8am and because of the weather (very cold and snowy) the attraction was almost deserted. Getting a ticket was very simple and cost me 120rmb for admittance, the shuttle bus and the cable car journey.
After getting off the cable car, I was ready to explore the wall. Workers were toiling to remove snow from the steps but I was so early I managed to enjoy the whole morning with a wall covered in snow! To walk the entirety of Mutianyu, from left to right, it took about 5 hours. It’s a big walk with lots of steps so I would not recommend if walking is not your thing. The views were unparalleled and the sheer size and design of the wall is incredible.
You can take the cable cars back down with your ticket or, if you would like, you can pay 100rmb to take a toboggan or open cable car down to the base. There are lots of restaurants and little shops at the bottom and it was very easy to get a taxi back to downtown Beijing.
Overall this was an extremely enjoyable trip, a once in a life time experience and the best way I could possible think of to spend my New Year break.
