Nan’ao Island is off the coast of Shantou, a city in the eastern Guangdong province of China. It is linked to the mainland via an impressive bridge. It is a small island of over 100 sqkm, and is surrounded by blue waters. The island has a couple of good beaches, including Qing’ao Bay. The island has much greenery and a number of attractions such as lighthouses and historical sites. There are a good number of restaurants serving local Teochew delicacy which is delicious. However, I have been to better island destinations such as Phuket and Bali, and think Nan’ao is pretty overrated, especially when it has been compared with Hawaii. I was impressed by the long bridge linking it to the mainland, but think the attractions are not overly interesting in my opinion. I have been to better beaches as well. #guangdong #shantou #nanao
