Day 1 After checking into our budget hotel we walked to Green Lake to find food and to walk around. 🥐Bon Appetito Bakery - buy a Chocolate Toast We walked to Nanping Pedestrian Street and Old Kunming Road and ate Wild Mushroom Hotpot, a Yunnan traditional meal. Day 2 We got a didi to Shilin Stone Forrest (360 RMB each way) and spent the morning there. If you are looking for peace and quiet venture away from the Major Stone forest to the outskirts of the scenic area for equally beautiful scenery without the crowds. We returned to Kunming to Dianchi Lake and walked alongside the lake. It was Sunday and very busy. We continued walking to the Yunnan Nationalities Village which we loved. The white-winged seagulls danced in the air, flapping eagerly for food offered by visitors, creating a lively and heartwarming scene. Stalls along the lake sold seagull feed, making it easy for tourists to interact with them up close. Capturing the perfect photo with these little angels is simple, but beware of the occasional “gift” they might drop on you—wet tissues are a must! This winter rendezvous brought a unique warmth and joy to Kunming’s chilly season.

The interior design is stunning, and everything is beautifully coordinated. Although there’s free coffee available for all guests at check-in, we chose to have ours the next day since we arrived late on our first day. The room was spacious and clean, and we loved the theme. The bed was comfortable, and everything was very well-maintained.

Old street Kunming, Yunnan can explore within 2hrs. not big as Old town lijiang. Kunming Old Street consists of 10 old streets, such as Qianwang Street, Tongren Street, Nanqiang Street, Guanghua Street, Jinbi Road, Xiangyun Street, Wenming Street, Jingxing Street, Wenmiaozhi Street and Yongdao Street. Most of the streets are 90 years old. The buildings on the streets are in the Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912) style or in the style of the Republic of China (1912 – 1949). #kunming #yunnan

This amazing park allows for a relaxing day surrounded by nature. The park is well taken care of by the workers, they are doing such an amazing job. There are lots of beautiful flowers, big lotus plants, etc. There is a charming bell tower with roses where beautiful girls take pictures. There's also a small boat in a lotus field where you can take amazing pictures. Lots of places to sit and enjoy the fresh air. You can come and feed the ducks and fish, enjoy a small pedal boat ride with your family (electric ones available if you don't feel like pedaling). There are also some food stalls that sell delicious food and juices (highly recommend the potatoes, they are amazing). The formations, which cover around 500 square kilometers, were shaped over millions of years by wind and water erosion, resulting in intricate towers, spires, and caves. The place is huge, there are so many places to see within this stone forest and lots of hidden places that is so beautiful and fascinating. The park itself is divided into several scenic views and sections. I spent a full day here, I saw the most important sites, and I skipped several spots as I needed to catch the shuttle bus and high-speed train back to Kunming City. Inside this store park, there are so many clear signs, directions, and history of the park. My advice is to keep looking out for the signage and make sure you are following the right path, as some may lead you back to your original spot. Some major sections are the main areas where visitors can explore towering rock formations, some sections are remote sections with older formations, this area is quieter and less crowded. The rock formation is impressive, some sections feature underground caves and rivers, and also lakes surrounded by the stone pillars, offering a peaceful atmosphere. The local Sani people, a branch of the Yi ethnic minority, have lived in the area for centuries. They have rich traditions and legends, many connected to the Stone Forest. Visitors can see the local dance performance, which is very cheerful and lively. One famous legend is that of Ashima, a Sani girl who was turned into a stone after escaping forced marriage, and her figure can be seen in one of the rock formations. . #yunnan #kunming #stoneforest

As evening fell and the lights came on, the town exuded an even more enchanting atmosphere. A must-visit spot was the famous yellow wall at Chaocha Mijiu, perfect for capturing memorable photos including a stop at the picturesque Duiyue Tower. Another serene spot was Green Lake Park, where I could unwind. The park’s willow-lined paths and tranquil waters made for a perfect escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. When I got tired, I visited the unique “Shangshan Hecha” tea shop for a refreshing break. This cozy tea shop, nestled in a quiet corner, was the perfect place to relax with a warm cup of tea. Beyond the well-trodden paths, I discovered hidden gems such as the vibrant local markets, where the colors and aromas of fresh produce and spices filled the air. It is mainly used as a hub city for transportation to other cities in Yunnan province but I do recommend spending some time there if the opportunity comes. Here are some of my recommendations: 🕊️Green lake park Very famous for the seagulls by the lake in winter time from November to May. 🏫Former Yunnan army lecture hall Nice building with a nice cafe inside that sells ice cream 🍦 ☕️ Salvador’s coffee house I came here first time in 2005 and it’s still here. They have excellent western food that is good for breakfast lunch and dinner as well. Very good vegetarian options. 🏯 Yuantong Temple Built during Tang dynasty, beautiful buildings in the city center. Worth a visit if you have time. 🏨 Silver Chest Boutique Hotel Amazing little hotel with unique Chinese style but with modern facilities. Wang Tong International Garden Hotel is a hotel located in Dongchuan, Yunnan Province, China. It is a 4-star hotel with very modern equipment. The bedrooms are spacious and clean. The staff are lovely. There is a restaurant that can accommodate a lot of guests. When you wake up in the morning, there is a breakfast with a moderate taste. It is considered quite good. Kunming is one of those places you only go to as a stopover on your way to Lijiang or Dali, but I recommend visiting a few places while you wait. The first is a calligraphy class. It's a great way to learn a bit more culture and pass an afternoon. I also suggest to get to a roof bar and enjoy a drink or two overlooking the city. It's beautiful on a Summer evening. Both of these places are near 岔街站 (chajie metro). 翠湖公园 (Cui Lake park) is another beautiful place to visit and there is a Mann Coffee cafe nearby where you can view the lake from the 2nd floor. Because it’s modern, clean, in a great location, good beds, great breakfast and a stunning panoramic view of Kunming city. Tip: Head to the hotel via taxi or take the metro to Shi Zha station. Enter the building and go to floor 23. This is the lobby. As you explore the modern lobby, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the buildings and mountains of Kunming city. #kunming #yunnan

Location: Many side streets in Kunming city. Kunming is a wonderful place to visit during the summer months…why? The weather is mild and not hot AND the streets in this city are quiet, quaint and beautiful. Filled with ancient architecture and luxurious trees, it’s so relaxing to be walking. Street tips: Qian Ju Jie (钱局街) is nearby the central part and has many trees to walk around. Also recommend walking from Shi Zha subway stop southwards and get some local food and enjoy the life of the locals. #Kunming #yunnan

Attraction name: Green Lake Park (Cui Hu Gong Yuan) Location: Central Kunming, Yunnan province. The Green Lake park in Kunming is located in the centre of this spring city. There is a metro station nearby and the taxi price is inexpensive in the us city. Enter from the South Gate and walk around the entire lake. It takes 50 minutes to walk right around. A nice two days in Kunming city. Dianchi lake was great for a walk. It was a littlw cloudy but it was nice to walk around. The boat rides are 80rmb for an hour from there. I recommend Nanping street for the evening, great for dinner and drinks. I visit a Turkish restaurant there called Aesir which was great. Lamb and beef kebabs were excellent as was the Turkish pizza. I stoped in the Marriott Fairfield which was in a very convienient location. It had a nice breakfast with both Western and Chinese options available. Great view from the hotel. Guandu Ancient town is also worth a visit if you have time.#dianchi #kunming

Kunming is a city for foodies, there are so many delicacies that is not enough to try in several days. You take a walk in old town which is quite nice. It has with wide streets and no matter how many people are there you still can walk and enjoy. To try the delicacies, you simply ask in the restaurant or small shops which dish is famous and they will give you variety of examples which won’t let you down! July 2022 #kunming #yunnan
