Saint Petersburg is stunning and my favorite thing there is just simply stroll along what seems to be endless embankments of Neva river. It was cold when I was there last time but the views still worth it. Neva river is gorgeous, and the number of stunning buildings along the river is very big. The skyline of Saint Petersburg at sunset is another wonderful thing that I was happy I got to see. Every time I got cold - I would retreat to one of the coffee shops, that are numerous. Tip: if you plan to visit during all time of the year, make sure you bring enough of warm clothes. Where did AGtogether go? Let's see. In this trip, when we arrived in St. Petersburg, the place we went to was the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, which is a place that you must not miss. The architecture is classic and beautiful, just as its reputation says. And most importantly, when you go inside, you will know that the decorations inside are all mosaics, very impressive. Next, we went to 2 palaces (actually, there are other big palaces, but we only managed to visit 2 in this trip): Catherine Palace and Winter Palace & Hermitage Museum. Both are grand and magnificent. There are many important items from the past of Russia for us to visit. In particular, the highlight of the Hermitage Museum is the birds that can move their bodies and wings using a winding system. It is very magnificent. In addition to the tourist attractions, we also had the opportunity to walk around the city in the extremely cold weather and went to see the winter clothing fashions of Russia and took some pictures to share with everyone. #saintpetersburg

Another great feature is the abundance of pine and deciduous forests around the city, where you can pick mushrooms and berries, swim in lakes, and enjoy barbecues. The air here is always fresh and clean, which is essential for me, as I can’t tolerate cities with poor air quality. We also have a comfortable climate with all four seasons. Spending a warm autumn day in Alexandria Park, Peterhof, was a truly enchanting experience. The park, with its serene landscapes and rich history, felt like an oasis of peace. As I walked through the golden, tree-lined paths, the crunch of fallen leaves underfoot added a delightful soundtrack to my journey. The sun’s rays filtered through the branches, casting a warm, golden glow that seemed to light up everything around me. One of the highlights of my visit was the Neo-Gothic Cottage Palace, with its unique architecture standing as a reminder of the park’s regal past. I took my time wandering around, soaking in the details of its historic charm. From there, I continued on to the shore of the Gulf of Finland, where the gentle breeze carried the crisp scent of the sea. The water sparkled in the autumn sunlight, and I felt a deep sense of calm as I stood there, gazing out at the vast expanse. Sitting by the bay, I watched as the waves lapped gently against the shore. The view was breathtaking, framed by the park’s vibrant hues of orange, red, and gold. It was a perfect spot to pause, reflect, and simply enjoy the beauty of nature. As I made my way back through the park, I felt grateful for the tranquility that Alexandria Park offers. The Hermitage Museum is one of the most important and largest museums in the world. Located in Saint Petersburg, it was built to showcase the power and glory of the Tsars of the Russian Empire. Originally, Queen Catherine collected famous paintings from all over the world, necessitating the creation of rooms to store these artworks and treasures, which were rarely seen by the public. Later, the collections were categorized and opened to the public. The museum houses over 2,700,000 pieces of art, and it would take more than 5 years to see everything. It is recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records as the gallery with the most extensive collection of artworks in the world. It is considered one of the most beautiful, oldest, and largest art museums in the world. Yes, walking for 4-5 hours and only seeing the highlights is still not enough to cover everything.

Catherine Palace, also known as the Summer Palace, was built during the reign of Peter the Great between 1717 and 1723. It served as a summer retreat for his beloved wife, Catherine I. The palace features only two colors: blue and gold. The gold represents Catherine's hair, while the blue symbolizes her eyes. Wow! Catherine Palace is renowned for its beauty, with numerous rooms each decorated in different styles according to their function. The highlight that should not be missed is the 'Amber Room' (Amber Room) (Picture 7), often referred to as the 'Eighth Wonder of the World' due to its interior adorned with amber and gold furniture. Another must-see is the 'Catherine Park,' a beautiful garden divided into Old Garden and English Garden styles, which holds significant architectural and historical importance in the city.

The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood is a true example of Russian architecture, which stands out from other buildings in Saint Petersburg that are mostly Baroque and Neoclassical. Many people often compare this church to Saint Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. Personally, I am most impressed by the interior decoration of this church. (I don't know if it's just my perception, but I see elements of early mosaics, which are very beautiful and different from other palaces or churches.) The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood was built by Tsar Alexander III to commemorate his father, Tsar Alexander II, who was assassinated at this location in 1881. The construction took over 20 years. Tsar Alexander II (1818-1881) survived several assassination attempts until the sixth attempt, where he was severely injured and lost a lot of blood, leading to his death at the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood. After Tsar Alexander III ascended to the throne, he built the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood at the site where Tsar Alexander II was assassinated (as shown in picture 6) as a memorial.

Peterhof is one of the most beautiful architecture ensembles I’ve ever seen in my life. The huge park, palaces, famous fountains, sculptures and many more! Located quite near to Saint Petersburg, so you can get there by the public transport (some buses from Avtovo metro station), by the Meteor ship, by taxi or in a tour group. Plan to spend there the whole day: you’ll love to b explore the park, run under the fountain-crackers and try not to get wet 😅 There are some tours which are not included in the ticket, so you can decide if you want to explore more. #saintpetersburg #Peterhof

Let me share one big tip here that could save you a lot of hassle! - How to book a hotel in Russia. 🏨 If you conduct a hotel search here on Trip.com, you will realise that there will be no results when you type in a Russian city like Moscow, Saint Petersburg or Nizhny Novgorod. And while Russian sites like Ostrovok and Yandex are brimming with options, they often require rubles and Russian bank cards – not exactly convenient for most of us! So how can a foreigner book a hotel in Russia? 🤔 So, what's the solution? It's surprisingly simple: Switch your Trip.com app's language to Russian (Русский), and do the search again. Most foreigners, including myself, will not be able to speak or read much Russian words, but you can easily screenshot for Google translation. (If you are planning to travel there, might as well learn a bit anyways) 📲 Ta-dah! For example in Moscow, you will see thousands of hotels listed, so you can filter (Фильтры) the results. For example, I prefer to have breakfast at my accommodation, so I choose “Завтрак включен”.
