Shenzhen bay park is a beautiful park that runs almost the entire length of Shenzhen along the bay it shares with Hong Kong. It Starts in futian and runs uninterrupted all the way to Shekou in Nanshan district. It offers stunning views of the entire downtown of Shenzhen and also looks out across the bay to Hong Kong. Along the way you can see Nanshan skyline, The Shenzhen Bay Bridge and the protected mangrove swamps. The whole route is paved and if you’re they’re on a weekday you can cycle the whole route, you’re unable to on weekends or public holidays as the area gets very busy! There is lots of open green space for picnics and toilets with vending machines along the way. The whole park is very long so you can stop halfway for food and drinks at the malls around Houhai and talent park. Dapeng old city is the perfect day trip to escape the concrete jungle and take in some history. The origins of the walled fortress town date back to 1394 and has been altered and expanded ever since. It has beautiful ancient walls and viewing towers that surround a network of old cobbled streets, alleyways and courtyards. These days they are filled with gift shops, restaurants and street food stalls along with small museums and temples. It’s such a relaxed vibe compared to Shenzhen and it’s worth a day trip just to wander the streets and experience the street food. You can also wander along to the nearest beach on the Dapeng peninsula for more seafood and shopping. The Shenzhen Civic Center is the administrative heart of the city and an iconic landmark within the area. As Shenzhen is such a young city it was built with a master plan for its future, the grid system is really impressive with this amazing civic Center at the core. It’s the biggest open space in the downtown area with the city built up around it on all sides, it’s the perfect place to take in just how impressive Shenzhen is. The open space spreads from the bottom of Lianhacun park right down to the downtown malls, so you can take a leisurely stroll through the civic Center and then head for food. Within the Center there’s a part of the Shenzhen museum along side a technology museum dedicated to the development of manufacturing around the city. There are plenty of restaurants, toilets and shops around the outside of the Center and underground in the numerous metro stations that serve the area.
