Fuji from different angles: 📍Arakuyama Sengen Park We need to climb up the stairs around 10-15 minutes to reach the place with temple view. So, don’t wear heels! It’s super worth it to go here. Takachiho Gorge is a narrow chasm cut through the rock by the Gokase River. The nearly sheer cliffs lining the gorge are made of volcanic basalt columns which resemble the scales of a dragon where the stone twisted and flowed as it formed. Partway along the gorge is the 17 meter high Minainotaki waterfall cascading down to the river below, and it is truly impressive to see the waterfall against a backdrop of dense green foliage and the surrounding grey cliffs. There are two perspectives from which to enjoy the gorge. The first is from below which is done by rowing down the river. Rental boats are available at the south end of the gorge, and the water is calm and easy to navigate. This highly recommended route offers a close up view of the cliffs and waterfall. The second perspective, from above, is done by walking the paved path that runs along the edge of the gorge. There are beautiful views all along the way and at some points on the trail you can look practically straight down to the river below. The trail continues for about one kilometer, eventually leading to the Takachiho Shrine. There are a few other things to see and do around the southern end of the gorge including a freshwater aquarium, a stocked fishing pond and a few restaurants and souvenir shops. The gorge is illuminated during the summer months until 22:00. The Takachiho Gorge is located just outside the town center, about a 30-40 minute walk from the Takachiho Bus Center. Most visitors come to the area referred to as the South Rim. We suddenly walked pass this place and wondered there were a lot of people sitting by the wall on small chairs. We went around for a lunch and decided to come back to this place. There are some choices of milk tea and other fruit tea on the menu. I ordered a tea set with some snacks. This place is just too popular we waited about 30 mins for our tea set and 2 grilled sausages. It was 110,000 VND. I felt a bit pricey but okey as the weather was cold and we enjoyed the moment we sat by the street looking movement of people and car but too many car horns every 10 seconds. Staff could not speak english when we ordered was difficult. This place is near Ca Bop bamboo house which is another very popular coffee shop in Hanoi. Visiting Nami Island during autumn hits differently. This island is famous because of k-drama. I booked a one day tour departing & coming back to Seoul. In the harbor’s parking area, you can grab the very famous Chicken Fried Stir (닭갈비 Dak-galbi). There are many restaurant selling the same menu. We took a boat from Chuncheon to Nami Island, around 10-20 minutes ride. Inside Nami Island, there’re ATM, money changer, convenience store, cafe, restaurant, snack bars, children park, library, parks, ponds, bike rental. When I came there in mid of November, some yellow tree leaves were fallen down and some areas still had the yellow tree leaves. I recommend you to come in early November for a full yellow scenery. The castle has undergone many different construction phases and is owned by the Banffy family. Between the years 1437 and 1543, the Banffy family built this castle and lived here up until 1944. At this point, they were evacuated by the Germans who turned it into a military hospital. Towards the end of the war, the castle was burned by retreating German troops, and then suffered neglect after the war when it was looted for building materials, and vandalised. However, Bánffy Castle has been included on the World Monuments Watch and it’s expected that the castle complex will be completely restored by 2026.
