No trip to Nara is complete without visiting the Nara Park!
#japantrip #nara #narapark #japan #travel #thingstodo #myitinerary
Nara Park and the deer are probably the only reason for many to visit Nara. It takes approximately 1 hour from Osaka to Nara by car and many would do it for a day trip (we stayed in Nara for a night). The Nara Park is huge and would require a bit of walking so be prepared to dress up accordingly. As soon as you arrive at the Park, you will find the wild deer roaming around (with some begging for treats). Aside from that, you will probably smell an unpleasant animal manure stench. To complete your experience in Nara Park, grab a stack of Grain Crackers to feed the deer for 200Yen, but mind you- some deer will attack you so play smart. For us- we looked for the younger and clumsy ones and we were not attacked. We did witness some tourists being attacked (not seriously).
Walk to one end of the Nara Park and you will find Todai-Ji Temple- one of the largest wooden structure and famous temples in Japan. We did not get to explore further as the temple was due to close (we visited at around 4PM local time) but suggest to take some photos at the pond right in front of Todai-Ji.
A must-visit to Mount Wakakusa in Japan! ⛰️
A lot of people just don't know about this mountain and don't go beyond the deer park, but this is one of the best places for our trip!
Easy trail and quick ascent/descent, convenient trail and deer along the way 🦌
We went up in September and it was terribly hot, go in the late afternoon and take a lot of water. 🧊
P.s. (4th photo) This is very similar to the tree from the Attack of the Titans! 😭

🦌 Oh deer! Looks like Nara just stole my heart😍♥️
Nara Park offers stunning beauty year-round. In spring, cherry blossoms 🌸 paint the park in shades of pink, while autumn brings vibrant hues of red and gold. 🍂🍁
One of Nara Park’s most beloved features is its population of over 1,000 free-roaming deer. Considered messengers of the gods in Shinto belief, these deer are a symbol of Nara and are protected as a national treasure.
Visitors can purchase special crackers, or “shika senbei” to feed them, experiencing the gentle curiosity of these friendly creatures. Many deer have even learned to bow politely in exchange for treats!😍
⏰Best time to visit: Early morning or late afternoon for fewer crowds and the chance to see deer more active.
Note📝: Be respectful to the deer and avoid teasing or feeding them inappropriate foods.

Deer Encounters and Temple Wonders: My Nara Park Adventure!
My trip to Nara Park was so much fun! As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by friendly deer roaming around everywhere. These deer are super cute and not shy at all—they even bow to you for a treat! I bought some special deer crackers and had a blast feeding them. Some deer were polite, but others were playful and tried to follow me around for more snacks.
Walking around the park, I enjoyed the peaceful scenery with beautiful trees, temples, and open spaces. Seeing the deer freely wander made it feel like a magical place where nature and history come together.
I also visited Todai-ji Temple, where the giant Buddha statue is. It was amazing to see such a massive statue up close, and the temple itself was so impressive.
Nara Park is full of fun, nature, and cute deer friends—an adventure I’ll always remember!

Family Fun at Nara Park, Japan! 🦌🌿
#familytime
We had an amazing day at Nara Park with the family! The deer here are so friendly (and hungry 😅), and we loved feeding them with special deer crackers 🦌🍘
Tips for visiting:
▪️Bring Deer Crackers: You can buy them on-site for 200 yen, and the deer will love you for it! But be cautious—they can get a bit eager.
▪️No Littering: Be sure not to drop any trash—deer sometimes mistake it for food, and it can harm them! 🚮
▪️No Human Food for Deer: Stick to feeding them the official crackers. Other food can upset their stomachs.
▪️Do Not Hit or Chase the Deer: The deer are friendly but can become aggressive if mistreated. Respect their space and be gentle.
‼️The Deer Are Wild Animals: While they are generally friendly, they can bite, butt, kick, or knock you down if they feel threatened or overexcited.

Nara, the city of deer
It's undeniable that when you think of a city of deer in Japan, it has to be Nara.
Herds of deer bowing and waiting for senbei from your hand. If you don't give them any, they will bow repeatedly, up to 10 times. Be careful with your bags as the deer might snatch, nibble, or bite them. If you ignore them, they might even bite your bottom. A little further, there's a temple with a mother deer and her fawn, which should have been born by now. Deer around the temple don't get much senbei. Don't forget to feed them a lot!

Step into a realm of ethereal beauty and timeless tranquility as we journey through Nara Park, a magical oasis nestled in the heart of Japan's ancient capital. As a devotee of natural wonders and cultural treasures, allow me to be your guide through the enchanting world of sakura blossoms and serene landscapes.
Nara Park, renowned for its breathtaking scenery and sacred deer, comes alive each spring as the cherry blossoms burst into bloom, painting the landscape in shades of pink and white. As you wander through the park's winding pathways, you'll be surrounded by a canopy of delicate blossoms, their sweet fragrance filling the air and casting a spell of serenity over all who visit.
But Nara Park is more than just a feast for the senses – it's also steeped in history and tradition, with centuries-old temples and shrines dotting its picturesque landscape. Be sure to pay a visit to Todai-ji, home to the Great Buddha Hall and one of Japan's most iconic cultural landmarks, where the cherry blossoms create a stunning backdrop for contemplation and prayer.
As you stroll through the park, you'll encounter friendly deer roaming freely amidst the cherry trees, their graceful presence adding to the park's sense of enchantment and wonder. Feed them a snack from one of the local vendors and marvel at their gentle demeanor, a testament to the harmonious relationship between nature and humanity that defines Nara Park.
Of course, no visit to Nara Park would be complete without indulging in a hanami picnic beneath the cherry trees, where you can savor traditional Japanese snacks and bask in the beauty of the blossoms in full bloom. As the sun sets and the petals drift gently to the ground, you'll be filled with a sense of gratitude for the fleeting beauty of nature and the timeless magic of Nara Park.
So whether you're seeking a moment of quiet reflection amidst the sakura blossoms or simply a peaceful retreat from the chaos of modern life, Nara Park offers an experience that is as enchanting as it is unforgettable.
Until next time, may your days be filled with sakura dreams and moments of serene bliss amidst the blossoms of Nara Park.

Located 1 hour away from the Kyoto station, Nara park is the world famous home for thousands of roaming deers.
The park opens 24 hours per day and no admission fee required where you can just go there anytime and buy the foods to feed them. However, personally Im not recommending to go there after 5 pm as the road is quite dark and you might be scared by the deers 😂
Tips:
- Wear a black shoes as there are a lot deer poo poos in the park!!

“Nandaimong Gate”, a national treasure of Nara
Nandaimon Gate is located at the entrance of Todaiji Temple. It is part of the temple. Because it is the entrance gate of the temple. If you want to walk to worship at Todaiji Temple, you must walk through this gate first.
Nandaimon Gate is a large temple gate made of wood. Completed in 1203, it has a 2-tiered roof and 2 large statues of guardian deities. This sculpture is registered as a national treasure along with Nandaimon Gate.
Nandaimon Gate is built in Chinese architecture. During the Song Dynasty, it was built with 18 giant logs. In front of the Great Buddha Hall, there is an octagonal bronze lantern standing out in the middle of the courtyard in front of the temple. This lantern is about the same age or the same age as the Great Buddha.
📍How to get there: "Nandaimon Gate" is located at the entrance of Todaiji Temple.

Warming up with deers in Nara
Nara can be done as a day trip from Osaka or Kyoto.
I travelled from the former via a Shinkansen which took about 1 hour journey.
Once you reach the Nara station, you may take a local bus from the station which drops you off at the entrance of the park. Before walking further into the park, you may purchase the deer biscuits for ¥200 to feed the deers.
Just be extra careful and read the instructions to avoid some aggressive ones. (Refer to last picture)
The compound is huge and vast, with free roaming deers. Walk around until you are tired. Try to spot all the cute road signboards everywhere.

Feeding the deer in Nara
Nara Park is one of the must-see areas in Nara City. It is a nice place to see hundreds of deer roaming freely.
Feeding the deer is one of the highlights when visiting the park. Some deer are aggresive tho, they will be chasing you if they smell the crackers, which you can buy around the park for 200 yen.
When you bow your head to the deer, they bow back to
you.
Getting there:
From Kyoto, take the JR Nara Line from Kyoto Station to JR Nara Station. Miyakoji rapid trains depart every 30 minutes, and the trip takes about 45 minutes one-way. It is covered by the JR Pass. Local trains are also available, but take an hour and fifteen minutes one-way.

Friendly deer at Nara Park
Nara Park is one of my favorite park in Japan and one of the biggest municipal parks in Japan and lies in the heart of the city. Locals love to come to the park, especially to the hanami spot to view the cherry blossom in spring. I was there when winter, but it was beautiful too.
Look for the friendly deer that run freely inside the park, expecting people to feed them sembei (deer crackers).
I found many interesting historical landmarks in and around the park such as Kofukuji Temple, Todaiji Temple, Kasuga Temple and the Nara National Museum.
There is a street food near Nara Park, i tried Mochi which is uniqely and passionate made, Takoyaki, Strawberry, and many more.

Nara Deer Park Review
The Nara Deers are cute and all but they get really feisty when you have food!
Remember to ONLY feed the Nara Deers with food bought from the park! One pack of biscuits (10 inside) is 200 yen! You can get the food from any white standing wheel carts pushed by oba-chans (aunties).
I’ve been chased non-stop by the deers once I bought my food. It was extremely horrifying.
Here’s a tip! Get your camera ready once you find a deer to bow at! Because they will only bow at you twice or thrice max before they get bored of you!

Feeding Nara Deer Everywhere
Nara is famous for its shrine and Jinja. Apart from visiting the gorgeous shrine, the most exciting activities visiting Nara is feeding Nara deer! You can find them everywhere at Nara Park. They look cute and harmless, but just a reminder that they will get excited when there is food! If you want to feed them, buy the Shika Senbei (deer crackers) at Nara Park which cost JPY200 per pack. Be there early before sunset, there are souvenir shops on the way to Nara Park.

Play with the deer at Todaiji Temple 🦌
Todaiji Temple is the landmark of Nara. It is located at the Nara park where not only you can pray at the temple but also feed and play with the deer! But be careful, some deer are in big size and may scare you 🤣
The buddha in this post’s cover photo is in Daibutsuden hall which is known as the world’s largest wooden building!
The park is quite big so you will need to walk a lot but I think it’s not a problem if you visit here during winter time. #todaiji #nara #narapark
ACT III: JQHN IN OSAKA
Japan trip: Feb 1st ~ 18th
After my stay in Kyoto, I have made my way to the final place to visit... Osaka!
For the first place to visit was obviously the famous #dotonbori to have a look at the running man of Glico for myself.
Then walked around to see the many shops around the area (Which isn't long enough to look around in under a day)
For the next place, we went to visit the #narapark and oh my god were the deers persistent to have a bite of the crackers I bought!
Following the next day was the day which I look foward to was the great #osakacastle, and looking at the magnificent castle with my own eyes has completely fulfilled this trip.
Finally, it was the day I went to #universalstudiosjapan.
Mainly my goal was to visit the Nintendo World section, and there I got to try out the Mario Kart ride (Which the line took 2 hrs so I recommend getting a fast pass for this ride)
And now for the last day of the trip, I thought I took it slow and visit around the areas near my accommodation and visited places such as #tsutenkakutower and malls at #osakastation.
Now it was the end of my trip ans I left Japan from #kansaiinternationalairport and for the longest time I've wanted to visit Japan, and to finally have my wish come true... I know for a fact that this won't be my last!
Thank you for reading my lengthy story of my first trip to Japan!

What a beautiful day filled with an experience I will forever cherish! I got to feed the deer at Nara park while in Osaka, Japan. I loved my either experience in Osaka, but I have to say this is one of my favorite memories. The deer were so friendly and tame that I was not scared at all (which I usually would be haha) I felt calm and wanted to stay there as long as possible because it was the much fun. The view is also very beautiful and the people who work there are so friendly and helpful.
I loved it! I recommend to anyone looking for things to do in Osaka, Japan. I will definitely go again.

Deer Encounter,Nara Park
The Nara Deer Park is famous for its deer encounters. My first was a success And I was NOT disappointed.
In case you're wondering, I tasted a crumb of the shika senbei
"biscuits" and its tasted like... nothing!
Nara is only 45mins away by train from Osaka. Park is 5mins walk from Kintetsu Nara Stn or about 20mins from JR Nara Stn. Strange as it may seemed, Nara's deer will gather in group without bothering the Deer crackers vendor. They will wait eagerly for visitors to feed them. The deer are surprisingly tame/timid, but can be aggressive when teased or provoked during feeding time.Fantastic and great place to explore/stroll leisurely. Great place for families and travellers alike. Due to Nara's hooved inhabitants, there aren't many places to get food in the park.(It's huge....) Finding food in this huge park is going to be a mean feat ! #japan #Osaka #narapark
Oh Deer 🦌
#kyototrip
Unlike the deer I am familiar with in North America, the deer at Nara Park near Kyoto are not afraid of humans at all. We visited the park and were surprised to see thousands and thousands of deer everywhere. Many visitors buy crackers to feed the deer, but please beware that the hungry deer can be overly eager for treats and start nipping and chasing people 😂 It was a fun place to spend a day observing so many deer interacting with people playfully.
