🇨🇭 Cogwheel Train Ride to Mt Rigi
During our time in Lucerne, we visited Mount Rigi, often called the "Queen of the Mountains," as the journey was included with the Swiss Rail Travel Pass.
Our adventure began with a 30-minute train ride from Lucerne's main station (Luzern Bahnhof) to Arth-Goldau. From there, we boarded a cogwheel train that provided a stunning, scenic ascent to the summit of Mount Rigi.
The cogwheel train is particularly fascinating due to its use of a toothed rack rail system in the center of the track, enabling it to navigate steep gradients that standard trains cannot handle.

The Chapel Bridge, or Kapellbrücke, in Lucerne is a captivating blend of beauty and history, making it one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Stretching across the Reuss River, this wooden bridge, adorned with vibrant flower boxes in the summer, exudes charm and elegance. Its history dates back to the 14th century, and the interior features a series of 17th-century triangular paintings depicting significant events from Lucerne’s past. Walking along the bridge, I was enchanted by the serene setting, especially the graceful swans gliding through the clear waters below. The combination of historical significance and picturesque surroundings makes the Chapel Bridge a must-visit for anyone exploring Lucerne.

A fishermen's village-LUCERNE
Lucerne, the gateway to central Switzerland, sited on Lake Lucerne, is embedded within an impressive mountainous panorama. Thanks to its attractions, its attractive shopping offer, the beautiful lakeside setting and the nearby excursion mountains of the Rigi, Pilatus and Stanserhorn, the town is a destination for many travel groups and individuals on their journey through central Switzerland. The origins of Lucerne are not very clear. Historians tend to think that the name is most probably derived from Luciaria, an old word for weir-basket. If this is true, Lucerne also started as a fishermen's village. What do you think?#swistherzland #lucerne
