A Morning in Beijing’s Imperial Heart: Exploring the Forbidden City
Visiting the Forbidden City was one if the most surreal moments of muy recent trip to Beijing. I had seen countless photos of this iconic landmark, but being there in person was an entirely different experience - it felt like stepping into the pages of history! #historicallandmarks
To make the most of our visit, we went early in the morning, arriving just as the gates opened. This turned out to be a great decision because the serene atmosphere allowed us ti fully take in the grandeur of this imperial palace before the crowds arrived. #exploring #culture #history
We had already purchased tickets online, which saved us from waiting in lines - a must for such a popular site! As we entered through the Meridian Gate, the golden rooftops shimmering in the morning light were breathtaking. Walking through the vast courtyards and admiring the intricate details of the architecture, it was easy to imagine the lives of the emperors and officials who once roamed these grounds.
Tips For a Smooth Visit:
- Book Tickets in Advance: Entry to the Forbidden City requires online booking with a valid ID or passport. Make sure to do this at least a day before.
- Arrive Early: The palace opens at 8:30 AM, and arriving early ensures fewer crowds and a chance to explore in peace.
- Wear Comfortable Shoes: With over 900 buildings spread across 180 acres, you will do a lot of walking!
- Bring a Guide or Audio App: To truly appreciate the history and symbolism of the Forbidden City, having a guide or using an audio tour app is invaluable.
- Start from the South and Exit North: This route takes you from the Meridian Gate to the Gate of Divine Prowess, allowing for a smooth flow and a glimpse of the famous Jingshan Park at the end.
Interesting Facts:
- A Marvel of Numbers: The Forbidden City boasts 9,999.5 rooms - a nod to the number 9’s association with power in Chinese culture.
- Center of Imperial China: For nearly 500 years, it was home to 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties.
- Secrets Beneath the Surface: The entire palace is built on a foundation of bricks to prevent underground access and ensure security.
The Forbidden City is not just a landmark - it’s a journey into China’s imperial past. Taking your time to explore its halls and courtyards gives you a deeper appreciation for its history and significance. #chinahistory #holidayvacation
Unveiling the Majesty: A Perfect Morning at Bangkok’s Grand Palace
Spending a morning exploring The Grand Palace in Bangkok was an unforgettable experience, full of vibrant colours, rich history and incredible craftsmanship. Here’s a guide based on my visit, with some essential tips to help you make the most of this iconic destination!
✨ Arriving Early for a Tranquil Start: I arrived around 8:30 AM, just as the palace was opening, and found that the morning hours were ideal for enjoying the palace before the crowds surged. The early sunlight illuminated the golden rooftops beautifully, making it feel even more magical. #exploring #earlymorningvibes
👘 Dress Code and Respect: The Grand Palace has a strict dress code to honor its religious significance. Shoulders and knees must be covered; if you’re unsure, you can rent sarongs outside the palace entrance. #culture #religion
🛕 Exploring Wat Phra Kaew and Thai Myths: I spend extra time in Wat Phra Kaew, home to the revered Emerald Buddha. Its intricacy is mesmerising - every inch tells a story. The murals on the surroundings walls are equally awe-inspiring, depicting tales from the Ramakien (Thailand’s national epic). These intricate paintings were a fascinating way to learn about Thai culture, and I found myself captivated by the detail and colours. #historicallandmarks
📸 Capturing the moment: For the best photos, I recommend heading to the outer courtyard, where you can capture the sprawling palace complex with its gilded stupas and vibrant roofs set against the clear blue sky. #photography
💰 Entry Fee and Getting Around: Entry to the palace is 500 THB (about 14 USD), which includes access to Wat Phra Kaew. Give yourself at least two hours to wander around, as there’s so much to see and appreciate. Even after leaving, I felt I could have spent even more time taking in the beautiful architecture.
🥤Beating the Bangkok Heat: The tropical heat of Bangkok is no joke, especially as you walk around. Shaded spots are limited, so stay hydrated by bringing water or picking some up from the small kiosks inside. This made it much easier to keep exploring and fully enjoy the experience.
Visiting The Grand Palace was highlight of the Bangkok trip, combining awe-inspiring beauty, cultural insights and the thrill of discovery. For anyone planning a visit to Thailand, the palace is a must-see and an experience that will leave you with lasting memories! #bangkoktrip #thailand

Hidden in the Hills: A Dreamy Escape to Sama Wakan Heritage Homes in Oman
During my recent trip to Oman, I had the pleasure of staying at Sama Wakan Heritage Homes, a secluded and authentic heritage hotel tucked away in the mountains. I was looking for something that would allow me to experience the rich culture of Oman while also offering some peace and quite.
🏨 As soon as I arrived, I was stuck by the serene atmosphere of the place. The hotel is set in the heart of a small, picturesque village, surrounded by towering mountains. The staff greeted me warmly, instantly making me feel at home. The architecture of the hotel itself is in harmony with the local environment, built from stone and wood, perfectly blending into the rustic charm of the surroundings. The room was cozy, with traditional Omani decor and all the comforts I needed for a peaceful night’s rest. #vacation #relax #localculture
🍽️ The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the dinner, the hotel served authentic Omani cuisine. The meal was a feast of local flavors with slow-cooked meats, fragrant rice and an array of delicious dips and sides. #deliciousfood
✨ After dinner, I took some time to stargaze. Being so far from any major city, the sky above the village was crystal clear. #stargazing
🌄 The next morning was even more magical. I woke up early to catch the sunrise over the mountains, and the view was just breathtaking! Breakfast was served outdoors, allowing me to take in the stunning scenery while enjoying s traditional Omani breakfast. Then, I decided to explore the village wandering through the narrow, winding streets, I felt like I had stepped back in time. The village has a timeless charm, with its old stone houses and terraced gardens. #localguides #exploring #heritagewalk

Cheonjiyeon Waterfall Jeju South Korea
Getting here was fairly easy. You can make use of a bus or a taxi but I suggest using a taxi as it took us just over 40 min coming from the north side of the island close to where the airport is located.
The waterfall was a sight to see though I left wanting more or expecting a greater experience. On our day of visiting, it was slightly cloudy and not windy creating a very calming atmosphere. Luckily there weren’t many visitors however I can see that this place can easily host a big crowd.
To enter, we had to pay 2000 KRW per person. You have the option to pay for your entry by either an electronic ticking machine or going to a manned ticketing booth right next to it.
We went in and came out in under 30 min, thus take some time exploring more of the town. The fishermen’s dock is also interesting to visit. We went for a walk and found a great coffee shop next to a place called 천지연크리스탈호텔.
Not far from the waterfall attraction, is another smaller island you can visit which also has a footpath around it. In some parts you can get quite close to the edge overlooking cliffs and seeing waves crashing.

Adventures on Elephant Island
Koh Chang in Thailand was the perfect island. we could rest at the Tropical Beach resort and got to do some exploring. There is an old abandoned resort and cruise ship on the island. Our room was right next to it, so we got go exploring. Unfortunately we couldn't get onto the ship but it's still awe inspiring. Can't wait to get to Koh Chang again.

🇲🇽Tulum - must see🇲🇽 Yucatan Peninsula
🌟🌟 Two days trip to Tulum, just a short 45-minute car ride from Playa del Carmen, was a mesmerizing adventure! Tulum effortlessly blended history and natural beauty into an unforgettable experience.
1️⃣Tulum Ruins🏯🏰: We started our day by exploring the Tulum Ruins, perched dramatically on cliffs overlooking the turquoise Caribbean Sea. The ancient Mayan architecture and the stunning backdrop of the ocean left us in awe. It was a unique opportunity to step back in time and imagine the lives of the Mayan people who once inhabited this coastal wonder.
2️⃣Tulum Beaches🏖️🏖️:After our historical journey, we made our way to the pristine Tulum beaches. The powdery white sands and clear waters were postcard-perfect. Relaxing under the swaying palm trees, we took in the beauty of this coastal paradise. Swimming in the gentle waves was a refreshing way to soak up the sun. Tulum has several beautiful beaches surrounding the Ruins, each with its unique charm. Here are some of the notable ones:
🏖️🩴Tulum Beach (Playa Tulum)
🏖️🩴Paradise Beach (Playa Paraíso)
🏖️🩴Las Palmas Beach
🏖️🩴Santa Fe Beach (Playa Santa Fe)
🏖️🩴Zazil Kin Beach
3️⃣Rio Secreto Cenote🔝:The highlight of our day was the visit to Rio Secreto Cenote. This underground river system was like stepping into another world. The stalactites and stalagmites formations were otherworldly, and wading through the crystal-clear waters was an adventure we'll never forget. It was a surreal and magical experience deep beneath the Earth's surface.
🌟🌟Tulum's combination of history, natural beauty, and adventure made it a day trip to remember. It was a delightful escape from Playa del Carmen, and we left Tulum with hearts full of wonder and a camera full of breathtaking memories.

Most Beautiful Mosques of Istanbul
it's a magical city. Known as the city of the 7 hills as well as Lisbon, sister cities, they have so much in common and at the same time so different from eachother ! 🤗
The beauty of the details inside and outside the mosques are so impressive, no one can deny it.
Apart from the most famous ones, I personally recommend:
- Suleymaniye Mosque 🕌 away from the crowds and with one of the best views of the city
- New Mosque (Yeni Cami) 🕌 just after Galata Bridge and near Spices Bazaar
- Ortakoy Mosque 🕌 smaller, authentic and not a single tourist inside
explore Istanbul, I lived 1 year there and it feels like I've seen so little yet ! an entire world in a city 🌍

Paseo De santiago
Paseo de Santiago is a privately owned property located at Barangay Santiago, Iligan City. It opened its door several months ago but has already attracted tourists of Mindanaoans alike.
The place is still in its infancy of development but I could see that the place is already very popular and always catered to a lot of visitors, mostly college students. On weekends, it is packed with families and groups of people of different ages.
Just like the HOLLYWOOD sign in Los Angeles, it's getting quite popular for tourists to take pictures of the ILIGAN CITY sign in Paseo de Santiago.

Kelingking Beach 🤍
Kelingking beach, also known as T-Rex Bay, is one of the most famous spots in Nusa Penida.
The beach is surrounded by steep cliffs with stunning turquoise blue water and white sand. The views are incredibly amazing, absolutely breathtaking!
There are many people going there to take pictures at the viewpoint but only a few of them are able to descend the narrow path to the beach, which it is totally worthy.
Once you get to the beach I don’t recommend swimming there, it is not safe at all due to the strong current and tides, but you can enjoy the nice views!

Ao Nang Night Market - Krabi
Ao Nang Night market is a popular touristic spot in Krabi. The market has a large variety of street food options (Thai, Vietnamese, Europa, Indian…), live music, beverages, shops selling different accessories and clothing, fruits, vegetables, desserts…
The atmosphere is really good and vibrant, it is totally worth visiting this market, specially if you are a street food lover because you can find anything you fancy and prices are fair.
But if you go there just for shopping, remember to use your bargaining skills!

Hop on Hop off bus in Hong Kong is definitely a must if you have limited time and want to cover most of the city. You can also Hop off where you want and get back on when you are done looking around in the area. The bus pass most of the major attractions in Hong Kong. It's a relaxing and convenient way of exploring. The ticket is valid for 24 hours and there are 2 lines you can take...usually there are 3 but line 3 wasn't running when we were there. We enjoyed the bus trip. We did rhe one line the afternoon and went back the next morning to continue on the second line, we also hopped off at Victoria Peak and got back on when we finished at the peak.

瀑洋湖湿地公园 Luyanghu wetland park
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Luyanghu Wetland Park and I got a great surprise with the beauty of this place. I travelled in train from Shanghai and it took less than three hours to get there. The closest train station to this wetland is Gaoyou.
From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by breathtaking views of lush green marshland and a stunning trees over the water surface. The park provides a wonderful opportunity to rent boats to explore the area, it is such an instagramable place.
Overall, my experience at Luyanghu Wetland Park was an extremely enjoyable one. I was able to appreciate the beauty of nature and experience a peaceful oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I would highly recommend a visit here to anyone looking for a day out in the fresh air.

Should you visit Ao Nang, Krabi Thailand?🇹🇭
Ao Nang, Krabi📍
5 Nights in Krabi! Krabi was one of the places in Thailand that I was excited for, but it didn’t really meet our expectations. Similar to Koh Samui, Ao Nang felt totally full of tourists and completely dedicated to tourists.
One of my biggest hates is when people try and beckon you into their restaurant or shop😂and you just could not walk anywhere without someone shouting ‘tuk tuk’ or ‘hungry?? Please have lunch at our restaurant?!?’ - totally not what I’m seeking when travelling.
Nevertheless, we did some really good shopping in Ao Nang & a nice trip to Railay Beach.
I think it’s just made us realise that we aren’t into places that are extremely popular with tourists, especially when we aren’t much into partying or drinking🤷🏻♀️

SHOULD YOU VISIT PATONG, PHUKET THAILAND?🇹🇭
📍Patong, Phuket
3 Nights in Patong. And after 3 nights, I have deciphered that Patong is only good for: Shopping.
Although there are lots of activities to do, it seems as though you would be paying double in Patong, compared to other parts of Thailand.
As anticipated before arrival, what I felt Patong mainly lacked was the feeling of adventure & culture, unless you wanted to pay lots of dolla 💸
Nevertheless, we spent our days on a gorgeous rooftop pool, having the typical relaxed ‘holiday’ - even though, we’re now a month into our travels!

SHOULD YOU VISIT KHAO SOK, THAILAND?🇹🇭
Khao Sok📍
2 nights in the most gorgeous place I’ve ever been. Khao Sok National Park consists of lush rainforests, deep caves, limestone cliffs and green lakes. We were lucky enough to stay on a floating bungalow, overlooking the breathtaking scenery.
The company that we booked with, Smiley Tours, took us on safari expeditions & jungle and cave trekking experiences.
The jungle & cave trekking was undoubtedly one of the scariest and most vulnerable experiences of my life!
The walk through the jungle was insanely dangerous. We walked on crumbling footpaths and rickety bridges. The caves were loaded with creatures that looked like they weren’t meant to be seen by humans, as if they were made for the dark and never should be seen by light- huge spiders, frogs, snake-like fish, bats, crabs.
We were constantly walking on wet, jagged rocks and placing our feet blindly within dark water.
But, despite the imminent danger of the trek, it was an experience that I will forever remember fondly, as I have never been able to see nature so untouched and in it’s truest form. Nature is frightening and formidable, but beautiful nonetheless!

The temples of Angkor Wat, Cambodia🇰🇭
📍Siem Reap, Angkor Wat Temples
Our first destination in Cambodia! Although Cambodia is only an hours flight from Thailand, there is no doubt that you are in a completely different country. Cambodia is smaller, less developed and more rural than Thailand. There seems to be fewer crowds and less tourists roaming the streets. The first thing that I noticed was how friendly Cambodian people are, they are so so welcoming and proud of their country.
Siem Reap is home to the Angkor Wat Temples and we took a 9 hour tour, exploring the some of the main ones. As Angkor Wat is the largest religious monument on the planet, there was so much to see. We learned such interesting history of the temples and of Cambodia from our lovely tour guide. And we really felt like we were tomb raiders, exploring the ancient temples. We finished the day with a big climb up a mountain by Bayon Temple to watch the sunset.

A TRIP AROUND THE PHI PHI ISLANDS, MAYA BAY!
Koh Phi Phi📍
We day-tripped from Koh Lanta to the Phi Phi Islands to explore the top tourist spots.
Maya Bay was our first stop & we had heard lots of negativity about it not meeting expectations. So our expectations were pretty low. Yes, there were crowds upon crowds of tourists. And yes, the toilets made me heave multiple times. However, the beach truly is beautiful. And the sand is so white and so so soft.
Next, we went to Viking Bay - I found it interesting that this is where they harvest bird nests to make traditional Chinese soup?! How random.
We snorkelled nearby & I’ve never snorkelled before. For my first experience, it surely was a frightening one😂 Firstly, I couldn’t get my snorkel to work. Constant mouthfuls of water & waves hitting me in the face. Finally, when I could breath & actually see what was beneath me, I instantly regretted it. Two Blacktip Reef Sharks in the water below. I have Ellie telling me that there were trigger fish in the water (not nice fish) & also saying that there was a barracuda (it was not, in fact, a barracuda). So, the entire time, I was freaking out :) After the second shark sighting, it was a fast swim back to the
boat.
We then headed to the main part of Phi Phi, Phi Phi Don, to have some lunch and look around shops- there was a lovely Burger King & McDonald’s facing eachother👯♀️
Finally, we went to Bamboo Island where we swam in the crystal clear water & had the absolute best time. I think Bamboo Island has the best water we’ve ever swam in.
Overall, we had such a fun day exploring Phi Phi & we are so glad that we just did a day trip, instead of staying on the super party island!

SHOULD YOU VISIT PHUKET OLD TOWN?🇹🇭
📍Phuket Town
2 nights in Phuket Town.
I am so glad that this was our final stop in Thailand. I absolutely adored this town & wish that we had stayed longer.
Phuket Town is perfect for those that are holidaying by the beaches of Phuket, to come and experience the culture and incredible history of the island.
The most beautiful aspect of Phuket Town is the European architecture that is seen throughout the buildings and shops.
The buildings are such a stark contrast from traditional Thai architecture & it felt so much like home to me, I really loved it.
There are amazing clothes stalls, the cutest coffee shops & the best traditional food that takes inspiration from both north and south Thai dishes.
I really enjoyed my time here & totally recommend if you’re spending some time in Patong or Karon!

Video tour Three Gorges Waterfall.
The Three Gorges Great Waterfall must be included in the TO-DO list of places to visit during your visit to Yichang. The scenic area has a lush green vegetation, fresh clean air everywhere and wonderful view points to enjoy the mountainous landscape. Spring and early summer seasons are the best times to visit. The waterfall is very high nd you can pass underneath to fill the power of the falling water.
Bring comfortable walking shoes as there are many stairs to climb. Hiking is not very demanding but better to come early enough so you can climb up without rushing. Don't forget your water bottle and camera! You will see some beautiful jade green spring water along the way and the waterfall is truly breathtaking!

HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM 🇻🇳
📍Ho Chi Minh City
What an amazing start to Vietnam! Although the beginning of our trip was a bit rocky, (a bit of anxiety getting used to the new country, currency, culture, etc), I absolutely loved Saigon.
Things that I loved:
1. The coffee here. Vietnam’s coffee is unbelievable. I will miss Vietnam coffee more than anything. And so many different types, so far I’ve seen; egg, cheese, and coconut coffee & I intend to try every single coffee out there.
2. Everything being close together- the independence palace, the cathedral, Saigon central post office, book street, the café apartments & a huge shopping mall - all right next to eachother! Brilliant!
3. There’s so many restaurants, so many thrift stores and just so much to do. You could definitely stay here a week. We stayed for 4 nights & definitely didn’t see it all.

Minhang Sports Park
Location: 456 Xinzhen Road, Minhang (Gate 2)
What to expect: Spacious grassy terraces for tents and picnics and pathways throughout the park suitable for bikes and joggers/ walkers.
Things to do: Rent a bicycle car/ paddle boat and explore. Set up a blanket under a tree and relax. Play at the jungle gym if you have kids.
We loved walking around here on a sunny day in Shanghai. The park is big enough so it feels private and quiet. Bring your own snacks and drinks as there are not many snack shops inside.

A natural oasis in the heart of Shenzhen!
This park was on my checklist for such a long time. Finally, I made it. The full name of this park is Shenzhen International Garden and Flower Expo Park.
Located in the heart of Shenzhen between Nanshan and Futian districts. Probably not as popular as others, this park is not as crowded as typical urban parks in Shenzhen. This park covered a large area and it's very nice to walk and enjoy beautiful nature sound everywhere you go. What surprised me there is are so many interesting and mixed sculptures. The park offers a lot of opportunities for good photos. There are not so many stairs which I prefer except when you need to reach the big pagoda at the top. There is also some nice scenery when you climb up. This park is not the most beautiful in Shenzhen, but it's worth visiting. Offers at least something interesting for everyone. Also, very convenient for transportation, if you come by car or by subway.
