HOTEL KARAE is an art hotel located just a 2-minute walk from Karatsu Station, nestled in the shopping district of the castle town of Karatsu, offering a travel experience that feels like living there. The lounge art and big table are made from materials and fittings of a sake brewery that existed on this land about 100 years ago, revived to their former glory. Created with the desire to bring a new breeze to this town through the fusion of traditional culture and art. Located in Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture, this is the former residence of Kotaro Oshima, who contributed to the modernization of Karatsu during the Meiji era. At the Taikoryo English School of the Karatsu Domain, he studied under Korekiyo Takahashi, who later became the Minister of Finance and Prime Minister, alongside Kengo Tatsuno, who designed Tokyo Station, and other notable architects such as Tatsuzo Sone. In 1885 (Meiji 18), he founded the Karatsu Bank, which later became the Saga Bank, and contributed to modernization through the construction of railways, roads, and the development of Karatsu Port. The main house is believed to have been completed in Meiji 26 (1893).

There is also the Jigokudani Monkey Park nearby, so if you want to go somewhere in addition to the onsen, I recommend visiting there. I took a taxi to the Monkey Park parking lot and walked from there to Jigokudani Monkey Park. Additionally, Shibu Onsen is also nearby, and I recommend strolling through its atmospheric hot spring town. It was accessible on foot from Yudanaka Onsen. ※The onsen photos were taken during the designated photo time set by the inn. The staff came up with the idea to allow a 15-minute photo session.☺️

We visited around noon on a weekday, but the cafe was almost full. We ordered pancakes for 750 yen and roll cake for 350 yen. The pancakes were soft and fluffy with a gentle sponge cake-like texture. They were so light and delicious that we could have eaten as many as we wanted😋 I was surprised in a good way by the low price. The museum specializes in natural science and is crowded during the summer vacation for children. The inside of the museum is packed with exhibits, and it would take three hours to see all of them. All the exhibits are interesting and worth a visit to Ueno for this purpose. The suite we stayed in had a private hot spring bath with a view of the ocean, which we enjoyed many times during our stay. I also enjoyed the buffet breakfast and dinner. The variety of seafood and other dishes were well worth the price! It was a wonderful hotel. It seems to be quite crowded on weekends, but when I went there around 1:45 p.m. on a weekday, I was able to get in easily. I ordered the Jurassic hamburger steak plate (1,500 yen). It took about 5 minutes to come out after ordering on the touch panel. The hamburger steak was tangy and meaty with a hint of pepper!😋 The rice was slightly seared and topped with vegetable ragout sauce and cheese croquettes to represent a volcano. #2024mapped Corinth Asahi A hole-in-the-wall coffee shop for those in the know, located in a building adjacent to the Tokyo headquarters of the Asahi Shimbun newspaper. We both ordered the most popular fruit pancake (950 yen).🥞 The size of the pancakes was as impressive as ever. The pancake was folded up and almost spread out to fill the plate. The simple taste is nostalgic and comforting. There are three kinds of syrups: green tea, honey, and maple, and it is fun to compare them. Honey is my favorite!
