Cerro Tinajitas is an amazing viewpoint, one of the highest hills in the area with 360 degrees views of Western the Zone. More than hiking, you need a 4x4 car to reach to certain hills. Great a one-day trip/few hours to spare in the afternoon. This location is a bit isolated, so you better bring your own picnic 🧺. Tirimbina Natural Reserve is a beautiful example of private conservation in Costa Rica. Located in La Virgen of Sarapiqui, primary and secondary rainforest are preserved in 345 hectares. Great location for bird 🐦 watching. Tirimbina biological reserve has 4 hiking paths open for public, accessed through a hanging bridge, that allows you to walk over the Sarapiqui river (and enjoy the rafting). Restaurant is highly recommended, great service and nice food. Lodge is quite nice, although some rooms have one shared bathroom. Near La Sabana, you can find a small and cute coffee shop to spend a nice breakfast, or if you are craving for coffee. Juan Valdez Café has good ambiance, location and nice coffee. Beef empanada is delicious, specially with the local spicy sauce. Chilean style cake was nice but quite hard. During my conference, I looked for good options near the near the Hawaiian Convention Center. Waikiki Brewing Co was a nice option to try. Always crowded, has a nice ambience for brunch, lunch, dinner and/or a promising happy hour. Lot of options in craft beer, jalapeño beer was something unexpected, and tasty. Few options for burgers sounded good, but blue cheese burger was definitely the best decision I did. I wanted a coffee after my meal, but the option was not really available. Located in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, Noi has one of the best Thai food I tried in the Waikiki area. Green curry was my favorite by far. Located in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, The Cheesecake Factory is a great option if you crave for a lot of food and affordable prices. I visited the same day of my return flight and deeply regret not finding this spot during my vacation week. My mushroom burger was huge, and tasty. I wanted an ice coffee with milk, and they kindly added the milk on the side (as they don’t offer this drink) without extra charge. Courtesy bread was also nice. On your way to Le’ahi park you can enjoy the Aloha Pineapple Cafe. This cute coffee shop is located in Monsarrat Avenue, same street to Diamond Head Crater Park. Iced coffee during a hot afternoon was a delight. Ambience is nice, service also good. One of the few places that offers free wifi in Honolulu. During my trip to Hawaii, my favorite was the coconut ice coffee. The Kahanamoku beach is located near the marina and has a small salty water lagoon ideal to enjoy if you bring small kids. Or you dislike the feeling of crashing waves. This beach has more coarser sand than Waikiki beach, although is quieter and nicer for families. It’s also located near Waikiki downtown, you can either reach there from the marina or the Duke Paoa Kahanamoku Park. Waikiki beach “Walls” area are a big concrete pool that reduces the crashing waves over the beach, good place to stay if you are scare of the sea or bring little kids with you. It’s a safe zone. A small gap in the walls allows the sea flow. This wall viewpoint allows you to enter the sea and enjoy a gorgeous full view of the beach. The International Market Place is located in Kalākaua Avenue, less than 5 minutes from Waikiki beach. This outlet was designed with beautiful tree gardens, water features, and around a huge main tree. In this market you can find few restaurants, luxury shops, free wifi and few charging places for your phone (right next to the big tree). A must visit location after/before the beach. You will have many options to rest while enjoying Waikiki. During my stay, have visited this place every singe day, even just to sit down and take a breath. Kalākaua Avenue is well-known as the main shopping center of Honolulu. Located just behind the Hawaii Convention Center the street starts with a bridge that originates from 1929 over Ala Wai canal. The Ala Wai canal was artificially created in 1928 to drain rice paddies and swamps, to give birth to Waikiki area. Kalākaua Avenue bridge has an amazing view, a great location for morning walk or just wondering around Waikiki. Gives you a great view of the marina on one side and the mountains on the other side. The Hawai’i Convention Center is one the most beautiful buildings I have ever been. It’s designed allows air flow from third floor to be distributed along the infrastructure to reduce the use of energy and maintain a fresh breeze along the meeting rooms and halls. Located in Oahu, it is just few minutes away from Kalākaua street, main shopping/restaurants street in Waikiki. Building was built in 1998, but still looks quite cutting-edge. Along the building it’s possible to see art/cultural Hawaiian exhibits. So far, I’ll say this is one of the most beautiful convention centers in the world. Hawaiian Aroma Caffe is a very popular franchise in the Hawaiian islands. This cafe has an international recognition on their roasting (traditional Italian style). They have lots of options for brunch, cocktails and coffees. Every dish looks super cute, even waffles served over leaves to feel that Hawaiian style in every pore. Everything is about location. The ambience is nice, it was crowded so I took my coffee and walked to the beach. If you have a long layover in Los Ángeles airport you might want to consider to get food while you wait. This airport requires every passenger to claim their baggage (even if it’s just a connection) and keep it til the counter of each airline opens (3 hours before flight). If you travel light, you might want to check outside the terminar for a nice meal without paying airport overprices. Barely a kilometer from the airport you can find few options, including having the California popular flavor of Carl’s Jr. The restaurant is quite fast on serving, has beverages refill and ambience is quite nice. Very popular among people working in the area. You can even get a combo for 6$ only! I loved the Pale Ale, while my partner prefer the IPA. The Tree House restaurant is a highly-known restaurant in Monteverde. They built the restaurant around the ficus tree, downtown Santa Elena. Great option after a hike in any of the cloud forest reserves or enjoying a day of extreme sports (canopy). Marlin Restaurant in Manuel Antonio beach promises the best of happy hour next by a mind-blowing sunset and one of the most gorgeous beaches in Costa Rica. Restaurant is literally 10 steps away from the beach! Food is very nice, burger with cheese 🧀 was better than chicken burger. Ceviche was good, although we had tried better ones. Shrimp 🦐 brochette was great, you are used to small shrimps 🍤 but they brought us a jumbo size, to die for. Happy hour is everyday, after 4:30. Heineken draft 2x1 is one of the best offers we had ever found. At night, they turn on the fire 🔥 lanterns to provide a nice ambience. The Hidden Treasure waterfalls (cataratas Tesoro Escondido) are located in Bajos del Toro Amarillo, next to Water National Park, Alajuela province. This area is located within the border of Poas Volcano National Park, one of the most famous volcanos in Costa Rica. This volcanic river originates within the Poas volcano, therefore its blue color is natural. To fully appreciate its beauty, you need to visit during summer time (sediment release in rainy season alters water color). Water is very cold, but absolutely breathtaking, perfect after the short hike around the mountain to reach the waterfalls. If you are looking for a nice hike of only few miles to spend your day, La Gota 💧scenic spot is a great option. This hike takes you to a hill we’re you can admire the Water National Park and the amazing view of Bajos del Toro Amarillo area in Sarchi. This scenic spot is located within Tesoro Escondido (Hidden Treasure) land, easy to locate in the map. These mountains are next to Poas Volcano, one of the most famous active volcanoes in Costa Rica. Entrance costs $15, ideally to visit during summer. This area gets very misty during winter, and it’s difficult to see the beautiful waterfalls when rain darkens with sediments the water. Haricots Coffee is located in Harbour City Plaza Fitness in Gangcheng Square, Lingang New City. Also known as Chaquexing. This coffee shop is also a fast food and steak restaurant, depending of the time of the day, inviting for a brunch. It’s located in second floor, but easy to spot. Ambience is nice, a bit rustic and spacious. Music is also quite inviting to chill for a moment. Bakery was starting around 9:30am, I supposed because I found no pastry 🥐 or bread available despite the fact the kitchen seemed busy. My coffee, I found it a bit expensive for a blend, specially in Lingang area. However, there were no many coffee shops or restaurants available either. On the other hand, my friend really liked his bubble tea. Lingang new city is located in southeastern Shanghai, rapidly developing into a gorgeous and beautiful city surrounded by green areas, Dishui lake, canals, wetlands and Nanhuixincheng beach. If you are going around the Dishui lake you might find very areas of shadow (desperately, in a very hot summer morning) and rest. This scenic spot is the best in all Dishui Lake China Masters Theme Sculpture Park. This spot gives you the whole view of the lake and a nice view of Dishuihu West Island (although is under construction and we were not able to enjoy it that much). It has a public bathroom, extremely important if you’re walking around this area. We found lots of people taking pictures, eating ice creams and children playing freely. This is the major shadow spot, so most people stays around here. Also, it’s located among the area of sculptures, so you can go for a walk after your meal. We didn’t eat here because of time, and My companion’s reluctance to try foreign food. Plates are big, ambience is calm and try to give an old Beijing city impression (according to my Chinese friend). Although, we found the noodles to be a bit salty. Considering this area is still under construction, you find many empty buildings or relatively expensive restaurants, therefore this is still a good option near the lake. There are six Xiangxiaodi Hunan flavor Yirenshi restaurants in Shanghai, seems like this franchise initiated in 2002. One of the most popular things about this restaurant is the lady in traditional Hunan dress inviting you in. This Hunan food 🥘 restaurant has a nice calm ambience to visit with family or groups, you have many fresh vegetables outside for presentation. Although Sichuan food is known to be spicy 🌶, Hunan food may be even spicier 🌶 🌶 , with a bit of sour from the vinager. This restaurant aims to bring the experience of Hunan into Shanghai. Portman’s Boteman in West Nanjing Road is a fancy restaurant located in East building of the Shanghai Centre, next to the waterfall wall garden. This restaurant mostly focuses on seafood 🦞, bringing together dishes from Japan, China, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore in an explosion of flavors. As amazing as it sounds, it’s quite expensive too. Be prepared to expend a few hundreds in a small meal. The meat 🥩 dishes look amazingly good. Drinks and cocktails have a nice presentation. There are few good dessert options, too.
