The Ruins of St. Paul's is one of the most representative places of interest in Macau. Its official name is the Ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral (Portuguese: Ruínas da Antiga Catedral de São Paulo), generally known as the Ruins of St. Paul's or the Archway. The Ruins of St. Paul's is the ruins of the front wall of the Church of Our Lady of the Church (St. Paul's Church) in Macau, with a history of about 350 years. Sanba is the transliteration of St. Paul, and because the ruins look like a Chinese archway, it is called the Ruins of St. Paul's. The Ruins of St. Paul's is about 27 meters high and 23.5 meters wide. It is one of the most representative "Eight Scenic Spots of Macau". It is located at the foot of the Fortress Hill, with the Macau Museum and the Fortress on the left. It is the front wall of the Church of Our Lady of the Church (St. Paul's Church). In 2005, it became a United Nations World Cultural Heritage with other cultural relics in the Historic District of Macau. The Ruins of St. Paul's architecture combines the styles of the European Renaissance and Oriental architecture, reflecting the fusion of Eastern and Western art, with fine carvings and majestic grandeur. The Ruins of St. Paul's is not only a symbol of Macau, but also a must-see for tourists. Many Macau people like to take wedding photos here as a souvenir when they get married. When visiting the Ruins of St. Paul's, in addition to admiring the front wall, you should also pay attention to the exquisite reliefs on the archway and their meanings. The art museum in the inner square houses the oldest oil paintings in the East with religious life as the theme. The opening hours of the Ruins of St. Paul's are all day, and the Catholic Art Museum and the cemetery are open from 09:00 to 18:00 (no admission at 17:30). It is closed after 14:00 on Tuesdays and is open as usual on Macau public holidays. To get to the Ruins of St. Paul's, you can take bus No. 17 and get off at Xinsheng Street (bus stop), which is within walking distance. The Ruins of St. Paul's is open to tourists free of charge.

Macau [Fort], the St. Paul Fort, was built in 1617 and completed in 1626, and lasted ten years. The fort was built on the hillside. Although the mountain is not high, it is located in the center of the Macau Peninsula. It is the main commanding height and is easy to control all directions. The area is about 8,000 square meters, with complete facilities, the fort with reservoirs, military storage, officers and barracks, etc., is the center of the Macau defense system at that time. The fort can be set up as many as 32 cannons, which together with other forts constitute a wide fire defense network covering the East and West Coast. The Fort was long listed as a military restricted area, and by 1965 the original barracks position was built as a weather station, and opened as a tourist area in 1976. In 1998, the government converted the place into a Macau museum and opened to the public.

Close to the Fort, the Ruins of St. Paul's, the Tap Seac Stadium, and the Lisboa Palace. There are many traditional foods around, old arcades, and quiet in the bustling city. You can directly understand the local customs and customs of Macau. It is amazing to see that Macau has embraced Chinese and Western cultures in this tiny place! 🌹👍

【Cathedral Church of the Nativity】 Since the Chinese in the past called the church a temple, it was once called the Great Temple, and the place in front of it was also called the "Top of the Great Temple". Because it is located on a small slope and faces the South Bay, women in the old days often looked forward to the return of their husbands who went to sea, so it is also known as Wangren Temple. But now due to land reclamation in Nanwan, the coast can no longer be seen from the lobby. The name of Wangren Temple is no longer familiar to people. It was built before 1576 as a small wooden building. After years of wind and rain erosion, it became dilapidated. In 1849, the Catholic Church gathered donations from the public and rebuilt it. Today's appearance and scale were built here. On February 14, 1850, Bishop Ma Da of the Catholic Diocese of Macau presided over the first consecration ceremony. During the Jiaxu Typhoon in 1874, the original two vaults on the top of the lobby were destroyed by typhoons and have not been repaired, resulting in today's flat-roof design. In 1937, the cathedral was rebuilt into a three-piece earthen building at a cost of NT$109,000, giving it the magnificent appearance it has today. Address: No. 1, Macau Lobby Front Tickets: Free

The Fortaleza do Don Pedro was formerly known as Mopanshan. Although the area is not large, compared with the crowded Senate Square, the natural environment here is quiet and elegant, and the cultural and religious landscapes are gathered. For example, the Fortaleza do Don Pedro, St. Augustine's Church, St. Joseph's Convent and Ho Tung Library are all the oldest Western-style buildings in Macau's World Cultural Heritage, and are representative works of the combination of Chinese and Western styles. They are also not to be missed. The road surface of the square is paved with Portuguese colored stones, which were transported from Portugal to Macau by sea from Portugal. The main colors are yellow, gray, and blue. The stones are inlaid into exquisite wave shapes and sunflower patterns. It is a unique combination with strong ornamental and decorative properties, which is pleasing to the eye!

When visiting the Zheng Family Mansion, I also visited the place where the Portuguese lived when Macau was first established. Now it has become a place for citizens to relax.

I like the attractions very much, the area is not big, but it is not only commemorative but also very interesting. There are many text pictures in the history of General Ye Ting's life, and there are some image materials, which are very good.

Travel Notes on St. Michael's Cemetery in Macau: The intersection of history and modernity During my trip to Macau, I decided to visit some unconventional attractions, and St. Michael's Cemetery was one of them. This cemetery is not only a witness to Macau's history, but also an important window to understand local culture and traditions. The surrounding streets of the cemetery, Rua de São Miguel and Avenida de São Tomé, are named after this cemetery, showing its importance in the region. Geography and History of St. Michael's Cemetery The St. Michael's Cemetery is located in the heart of Macau, adjacent to Rua de São Miguel and Avenida de São Tomé. The names of these two streets are derived from the cemetery, showing the cultural impact of the cemetery on the surrounding area. Rua de São Miguel is the second highest road in the St. Michael's Square, connecting several important places, including the location of the Social Security Fund. Avenida de São Tomé is an important trunk road connecting the Central and Southern Districts of Macau to the Old District, passing through historical areas such as the White Came Nest and the New Bridge, as well as the former Central Prison, which is now the location of the Kiang Wu Hospital. This road is not only the axis of life for local residents, but also a window for tourists to understand the daily life of Macau. Visiting Experience Walking into the St. Michael Cemetery, I was infected by the tranquility and solemn atmosphere here. The tombstones inside the cemetery are neatly arranged, many of which are exquisitely carved and uniquely designed, reflecting the fusion of Macau's multiculturalism. Each tombstone tells a story, silently telling the past years. In addition, the cemetery is also an important place to observe Macau's religious beliefs and history. Many tombstones have Catholic symbols, which shows the important position of Catholicism in Macau's social history. Here, I deeply feel the intersection of history and modernity, as well as the interweaving of life and death. Nearby Exploration Coming out of the St. Michael Cemetery, I walked along St. Michael Street towards the St. Michael's Square. On this road, I passed by many landmark buildings and felt the daily style of Macau. Walking on such a street, you can see the life scenes of Macau residents and experience the real and profound local culture. Conclusion The St. Michael Cemetery is not only a place for meditation, but also an important place to understand Macau's history and culture. It made me realize that the history of every city is not only hidden in the bustling streets and shining attractions, but also in these quiet corners. If you have a deep interest in history, St. Michael's Cemetery is definitely worth a visit.
