This is my favourite place to stay in Kunming. Location is perfect, just a few minutes from Green Lake and the Huashan Xilu metro station. Staff is very friendly and helpful. As for the rooms, they are small but convenient and comfortable, and very clean. But what really makes Upland really special in my opinion is the lovely courtyard and terrace. Highly recommend staying here!

This is the best hostel I have stayed in China by far, all thanks to the amazing host who is truly passionate about helping travelers as he is a traveler himself! Everyday he was eager to help with my plans, help other foreigners with food, phone issues, anything that came up. This is also the first place that had a real hostel vibe where it's easy to connect with other travelers (Chinese and foreign) in the common space. I would recommend everyone to stay here in Kunming!

Hump hostel review The hotel is spotless, check in process was smooth. They even allow us for late checkout. I’m surprised by the hotel room. They called it hostel, but the family room is so big, affordable and clean. They do have options for dorm room. I went to their shared toilet and it was so clean, with hairdryers, and sitting toilet (very rare in china) They even have the washing machine and dryer. They allowd us to put our luggage free of charge after we check out. Allowing us to strolling in the city centre while waiting for our flight time. Location wise is also perfect Close with everything. Mosque and halal food literally 4 minutes walk. I will definitely repeat my stay in the hump hostel when i return to kunming. This time, i will bring my family

Convenient airport pick up, lots of places to eat nearby, and great staff, its a great stay to stay for few hours like we did, although it needs improvements but was a great short stay.

We booked a private room, and loved our stay. The mattresses were comfortable, the staff helpful (and spoke English to help smooth out any problems), and the restaurant was a great spot to enjoy a meal or a cup of coffee. Cloudland has such a friendly vibe, it's one of the best places we've stayed in China. It was lovely coming back to people playing pool, ping pong and having a good time every evening after visiting the city.

Overall room was basic. There was a restaurant in the hotel that offer hot meals. It was low reason, thus the hostel was quite empty during our stay. Or perhaps the location was so close to the bus station, most hikers will hop into bus and back to Lijiang or Shangri-La straight away. The hotel is located uphill. The only trouble we faced was our baggages was stored at the public storage room downhill, and we had to carried our own baggages walk about 200m uphill, and 3 storey staircase to our room.

Great hostel. Comfortable beds with electric heated blanket, curtains, plugs. Good hot shower, place for drying clothes on the roof. Around 2 km from the old town. Quiet neighborhood.

The environment is wonderful. It's clean and well - maintained, with beautiful plants and cozy common areas. The owner is really kind and helpful. They go out of their way to make guests feel welcome and comfortable. I must mention their dog. It's so friendly and full of energy. Every time I see it, I can't help smiling. It adds a special touch to this place. Overall, I highly recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a great place to stay. I'll definitely come back again!

It was clean and spacious and the staff were rlly friendly! Gym was run down and dusty but can't expect much for the price. Overall, it was a great stay and I would recommend it!

I highly recommend staying here, it exceeded all my expectations! The rooms were spotless, with clean beds and plenty of space. They provide towels, toothbrushes, and bottled water. The owner puts so much thought into the little details, making the hostel feel cozy and welcoming. For girls, it's a dream! The bathroom is stocked with essentials, and there's even a vanity mirror in the common area, perfect for doing your makeup comfortably. The owner is super helpful and friendly, and they can also help you arrange tours. Plus, you can rent an e-bike or e-car directly from them. If you're in Shangri-La, don't hesitate to stay here!

Let me explain here. A British foreigner gave this youth hostel 3.5 points. I was staying in another youth hostel, and I met this foreigner downstairs. He said that the place he stayed in was one of the cleanest youth hostels he had ever stayed in, and the price was good. I was curious and went to check it out. I thought it was very clean and even better than when I was there. The hostel I stayed in was spacious. I checked the room again the next day. The bed was very stable and the quilt was much better than the previous hostel I stayed in. So I decided to move to Fusheng Hostel. I chatted a lot with foreigners and went hiking in Xishan Park together. He has cycled across five continents and opened a diving center in Turkey and became his own boss. This time when the three of them entered China, they met Macau people who helped them ”pay and buy” the mainland. After setting up the mobile phone card, this kind-hearted Macau native spent an hour without saying anything and also used his own money to give three cards to the three foreigners. The British foreigner said that he was very touched and received a lot of help in China. He was also very satisfied with this youth hostel, but it was a bit cold and did not provide electric blankets. After he left, he gave him a score of 3.5. I called him on WeChat and he said that this is an ordinary youth hostel, not good or excellent enough. Foreigners staying in a youth hostel have at least two toilets, and he didn’t feel that the boss upgraded his room. It's just a bed. After hearing this, I said that the youth hostel owner didn’t give you the five yuan for washing clothes because of the language barrier. Can you transfer it to him? He said he has already checked out, how can I transfer it? I said, haven’t you always paid via WeChat in China? If you are Malaysian, please read my comment without translation. This hotel is really close to the train station. Even though you already know this hotel is bad, but you still want to buy it because you are poor, I beg you, please enrich yourself a little more to buy a better hotel. This hotel is horrible. Smells like cigarettes, damp, musty very strong. Hinges. A lot of mosquitoes. The floor is very dirty. We only sat for 3 hours. Quickly want to get out because it's very suffocating to be there. You deserve a better hotel.

Although it was a bit hard to find for me, I had a good stay!! Staff is very friendly, they helped me out and were super kind to me. The room was tiny, if you have a suitcase a bit hard to open! I have a backpack and the bed is big enough to put it on there. Upper bunk get really hot! Two fans which works great for lower bunk but don’t really reach the upper ones. Also I booked room with no windows so that didn’t help. I would recommend booking one with windows! The toilet was new, but would flood everyday :(( also doesn’t get clean very well. I would still recommend this hostel! It’s cheap and close to the Main Street. Also there’s a little cafe at reception really nice! I would stay again

Well-cleaned and well-kept apartment home style. It's very near the station and there's a grocery store downstairs making it very convenient. The hostel receptionist is also very friendly and will recommend you things to do around this area. So if you are looking for a short stay over from the railway just go for this. I believe hostel style is the best way to connect, meet people around, and even a chance to travel around nearby together!

Would recommend Hosting Friendly and smiley. Took up bags without asking. Answer questions over wechat. Even the other guests were friendly! Usually Chinese visitors don't really speak to me (which is fine of course), but the girls I shared a room with even asked me to dinner with them and shared food Location The pictures they have down for the exterior, it's actually to the left of that. walking distance to the ancient village and chongsheng temple. easy trips to the lake. Amenities Fridge, washing machine, hair dryer, shoe dryer, toiletries, kitchen area etc. all included. There's like a communal courtyard area as well and I believe you can eat there too but you need to book it the day before by a certain time. Bathroom Sit down toilet. Shower. Toiletries. Looks a bit shabby at first glance but the shower toilet and sink are all working and very clean Room Lovely thick mattress (I've found they are usually quite thin in Chinese hostels so this was a nice surprise). Heater if needed. I'm not entirely sure how the lock on the door is supposed to be done. Overall great atmosphere. The pictures look a little bit rough around the edges but its honestly fine and i think I could stay here a while

This little hidden hostel is a gem. Since I walked in, I felt welcome and very at home. There is a community feeling, with dinners, patio conversations and kareoke up on the rooftop with a splendid view of the mountains. Dali is always active and you can access the city vibe within 5 minutes but here it is wuiet and peaceful. The rooms are comfortable and clean and the laundry is a big plus for a traveler. Come here to discover Chinese hospitality and community spirit.

Loved LOVED this hostel! quite easy to get to from the train station and a 15min walk to Dali old town, but there's also a really frequent free shuttle service on offer to get you from the hostel to the old town and back. very clean, wonderful views from the roof and various public spaces and balconies. great social area, and I'm so happy to have made so many friends there. the hostel also offers various group trips to main sights around Dali for really reasonable prices - the best thing is that the tour guide also takes pretty professional photos so you get your memories recorded throughout the trip! the hostel also has cute cats and a big fluffy dog!

Hostel is located opposite the main road after our from the ancient Dali gate, so is very convenient to enter Dali street by foot. Room are well manage by elderly friendly couple. Comfortable bed with classic design surrounding with book shelf. Hope their business continues growth and provide affordable stay for solo traveller. My window can view the Cangshan mountain.

I’ll give it a five-star rating because the price is really hard to find anywhere else in the ancient town. Being the first youth hostel is something that’s cherished, and providing cost-effective accommodation for backpackers may also be the original intention of the store. The environment of the small courtyard is very good. There is an electric blanket, so it is not cold when sleeping. I haven't lived in a dormitory for several years, and I relived the feeling of going to school again.

2 Days i'm stay here It's very nice place. Good atmosphere beautiful and clean . love staff here have good service for me. Easy to go everywhere and looking around If i have time i will come back this hotel again.

If you are traveling on a show string budget, this place will be just fine. The pods are well maintained. No toiletries and towels provided. Get your own. The owner is helpful. The place also has bikes which can be rented at 10 RMB per day. Has wifi.

I came here based on the reviews. There are no negative reviews. I check in remotely. The dormitory is well managed. No one smokes. There is a smoke alarm. There is a washing machine and a water dispenser downstairs. It is good value for money. It is the most cost-effective youth hostel near the station. The sheets and quilts are clean and tidy. Everyone is welcome to stay.

The owner helps me to take my luggage to the room during checkin and checked on me when I’m not feeling well. They clean the room every day also the bathroom. I had a pleasant stay. P/s: you have to make your own bed and the mattress quite hard. I found all “kind” of hair when i put on the bed sheet. And lots of hair on the floor as well. I informed the owner and she cleaned the room immediately. Thank you for your service

There is a cat in the hostel, named Pi Pi, very cute. In the yard, you can see the sunrise over Jinshan Mountain in the morning. The boss played board games and watched movies with his friends. There is an electric blanket on the bed in the room, and the washing space is quite large and very clean. The location is in Baisha Ancient Town, very close to the bus station. I like it very much~
