Ibis Phuket Patong

Patong Beach
Great location, really pleasant and clean rooms, but the thing that makes this such a good place to stay are the staff. All of the people are incredibly helpful and generous with their time and advice. We travelled with two six year olds and lots of luggage and despite the stairs up to the elevator this was one of the nicest places we stayed in the four weeks we were in Phuket.
Ibis Phuket Kata
4.2/5239 Reviews
Kata Beach
Ibis Kata is located nearby Kata beach. The hotel has been around for a while, providing many bedrooms and lots of activities. The hotel itself is abit dated. Reception always get busy. Swimming pool area and breakfast area is pretty decent. There's also a shuttle van from hotel to kata beach and back (5 times a day). Although it is walkable distance too (have to walk around club med area). The telephone in our room is not working during the stay though. And also one of the elevator is out of service during the time as well. Anything else is decent and quite good. The bar lobby area is good for mingle with friends and families. There is also a taxi service from hotel to the airport, you can simply book in advance with the reception team. It is 1000.00 Thai Baht. Special shout out to K. Rujiret (Asst. Front Office Manager) and the crew for being so friendly and going extra miles to help each customer's request.

Phuket Transportation

Apart from what I've talked about above, here are some other ways to travel easily around Phuket island.

  • Local buses (Songthaews) connect Phuket Town to various beaches. These converted trucks operate from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with fares ranging from 20 to 40 THB ($0.60 to $1.20 USD) per trip. Songthaews are an economical way to travel but can be slow and less comfortable compared to other modes of transport.
  • Tuk-tuks are widely available across Phuket, especially in tourist areas. They operate 24/7, and fares start at around 200 THB ($6 USD) for short trips and can go up to 1000 THB ($30 USD) for longer distances. Tuk-tuks offer a convenient and quintessentially Thai travel experience, though they are more expensive compared to buses and fares should be negotiated in advance.

  • Motorbike rentals are a popular choice, with daily rates ranging from 200 to 400 THB ($6 to $12 USD). Renting a motorbike offers great flexibility and is cost-effective, especially for solo travelers. It is important to wear a helmet and have a valid license, as traffic police frequently check for compliance.
  • Boat services operate between Phuket and nearby islands such as Phi Phi, James Bond Island, and Coral Island. Prices vary depending on the destination and type of service (ferry, speedboat, or long-tail boat), typically ranging from 300 to 1500 THB ($9 to $45 USD) for a round trip. Boats are the only way to reach these islands.

Phuket Weather: What Every American Needs to Know

Phuket’s tropical weather is as consistent as your morning coffee—warm and humid year-round. Here’s a short guide to help you plan:

Dry Season (November to April):

This is Phuket’s peak season, aka the perfect escape from chilly American winters. Expect sunny skies, temperatures in the 80s (Fahrenheit), and calm seas ideal for snorkeling, diving, and lounging on the beach with zero guilt.

Rainy Season (May to October):

Don’t write this off! Sure, it rains, but it’s more like dramatic afternoon showers followed by clear skies. Temperatures still hover in the 80s, and the island is quieter, with lower prices and lush green landscapes. Just pack a light rain jacket and your sense of adventure.

Warm Tip: Phuket’s heat and humidity can feel intense, so stay hydrated and slap on sunscreen like it’s your new best friend. Whether it’s winter or summer back home, Phuket guarantees a warm welcome (literally).
