Hometown Bar-B-Que opened in Red Hook, Brooklyn, in September 2013. The restaurant specializes in authentic meat dishes prepared according to the classic southern smoking technology on oak wood.
In this age of uncertainty, who would refuse to travel some distance for a meal that is almost absurdly enjoyable? Here in a converted warehouse in Red Hook, that means smoked meat with such a rich flavor that you'll wonder if you'll ever eat kale or muesli again.
Standing in line, you get time to think about your order. Just make sure it includes brisket, braised pork and beef ribs. A side dish of cabbage leaves will simply decorate the dish. Fat, which some consider a bad word, is what gives the meat its juiciness and soft texture, as well as a crust of salt, pepper and turbinado sugar. Grab the cutlery, sit down and nod your thanks to the stars and stripes painted on the wall before reacquainting yourself with your inner hunter-gatherer.
Hometown Restaurant also serves a variety of traditional side dishes and desserts. You can order craft beer, a wide range of American whiskey, seasonal cocktails and a wide selection of wines in glasses and bottles.
In a classic barbecue style, the restaurant offers delivery to the counter on a first-come, first-served basis - until all the dishes specially prepared for that day are sold out. To make the wait pleasant, you can order drinks at the bar with other visitors and listen to live music on weekend evenings.
Taste is an exceptional. The meat falls apart when used properly, it is both strongly peppery and slightly sweet. It is served on a metal tray lined with meat cutting paper, with a side dish in paper cups, but this dish does not require any sauce or frills.
Carvers and cashiers can help with the quantity when placing an order. As a rule, if a sporting event is taking place in New York, it will be shown on the screens, but it is not a sports bar.
Summing up, I have an impeccable impression of this place.
