Ancient Cities and Towns | Walking through Yaoba Ancient Town, touching the historical features of Southern Sichuan

In the territory of Hejiang, Luzhou, there is an ancient town of Yaoba nestled against the mountains and rivers, with Southern Sichuan ancient residences, bluestone paths, century-old trees, and ancient temples in rice shops. Every step offers a scene, and with every step, one can touch history. A stele inscribed with the name of the ancient town stands under a large tree. Through the gaps in the branches, one can faintly see the archway, which is the iconic building of Yaoba - the archway of Li Yuelong, a military scholar from the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty. The material of the archway is stone, but the style is an imitation of wooden structures. Although it has experienced wind and rain, the inscriptions on it are still clearly discernible. Wang Chaowen, a modern celebrity from the ancient town, his former residence (Tianshoutang) is located below the archway of the advanced scholars of the ancient town. It is a typical quadrangle of Southern Sichuan, through which one can glimpse the local customs and historical features of Southern Sichuan. Yaoba Ancient Town not only has a pivotal position in the history of Southern Sichuan but also has left its mark in the field of Chinese modern and contemporary film and television due to two movies. Directed by the well-known director Ling Zifeng, and starring Xu Qing and You Yong, a movie named 'Crazy' may have become a vague memory for most people and is not considered Ling Zifeng's representative work. However, for Yaoba Ancient Town, it is a precious memory. The Dahong Rice Shop, built by the military scholar Li Yuelong, has also made a significant impact on Chinese film and television due to the movie of the same name directed by the famous director Huang Jianzhong. Climbing up the well-preserved Dahong Rice Shop, one can still see the film and television props used for shooting. The intact two-story quadrangle is also one of the iconic buildings of the ancient town.
