Lion Mountain Ancient Trail

Lion Mountain Ancient Trail is a popular scenic route in Miaoli and Hsinchu. The trail is divided into two sections by the Moon Viewing Pavilion, with the first half featuring ancient stone-paved paths and the latter half consisting of cement or asphalt roads, making it relatively flat. Most people start from Futian Temple or Quanhuatang Temple, but another option is to begin at the old trailhead, which is longer but offers more historical traces. Winding through lush greenery, the ancient trail is serene and pleasant. Along the way, there is a nearly vertical cliff that is majestic and awe-inspiring. The trail features a total of eleven temples, blending Chinese, Western, and Thai styles, ranging from simple to ornate. From the Moon Viewing Pavilion, you can also take a side path to ascend Lion's Head Mountain, one of Taiwan's minor hundred peaks, offering excellent views.
