Jinan Luneng Guihe Intercontinental Hotel is located in the center of the old city district, backed by Daming Lake, overlooking Qianfo Mountain and Quancheng Square, with Baotu Spring on the left and Heihu Spring on the right. All the famous sights and delicacies in Quancheng are within easy reach, just a short walk away. Following the construction concept popular in the 1980s and 1990s of a five-star hotel coexisting with a commercial complex, the Jinan Intercontinental is situated on the top floor of the local top property Guihe Shopping Center, which has a huge scale and a collection of luxury brands on the ground floor. However, the planning of the zones and circulation seems to have some issues, resulting in a constant flow of people in the hotel reception lobby and the atrium lobby, making it hard to find a quiet moment. Fortunately, the lounge can handle check-ins, and the elevator goes directly to the top floor. This allows a glimpse into some details of the building, which has a slightly complex overall layout. The floor plan is similar to the Arabic numeral 8, with two adjacent towering atriums connected, and the reception lobby and swimming pool are located at the bottom. All guest rooms are stacked around the two atriums. If you are new here, it is easy to get lost going back and forth between the lounge, your room, or the elevator. For example, my room this time was 1167, located in the southwest corner of the building, which is not only far from the lounge but also requires passing through several rooms, and I took the wrong way every time. After all, the hotel has been operating for years, so I had little expectation for the room. Ensuring member privileges, I was upgraded to a 270-degree deluxe room, which is more accurately described as a corner room with two sides of intermittent floor-to-ceiling windows. The room layout is very similar to that of the Westin at the Canton Fair, with a long entrance corridor, so it suffers from serious western exposure and is rather stuffy and hot. The maintenance of the room facilities is also average, with some minor issues here and there. Apart from the outdated decoration aesthetics, the overall condition is still passable. The view outside the window includes Daming Lake, but it's too far to see more than a dark green line. The decor of the executive lounge is similar to that of an old cadre's academy, and the curtains are so tightly closed due to the western exposure that the entire space feels oppressive and dim, which is not pleasing. However, both the afternoon tea and the evening happy hour live up to Shandong's reputation for hospitality and are worth the separate charge. The next day's breakfast was arranged in the sixth-floor restaurant, which has a similar environment to the lounge, with no natural light, but the offerings are also above standard, diverse, rich, and full of local flavor. I especially recommend the handmade meat buns and the large pancakes, which are satisfying with their combination of fat and carbohydrates. The swimming pool is currently being renovated and is not open for business. Overall, this hotel is especially suitable for friends visiting Quancheng for the first time, as it offers a one-stop solution for accommodation, food, travel, shopping, and entertainment.
