Ruins or art? The historical riches a day trip from Bangkok

I was surprised to learn how easy it is to get to the Buddha head embedded in a banyan tree. Listed as a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE and famously advertised by many, this is a great day trip! Deciding how to get there and back, what we wanted to see, we opted to rent a motorbike in Bangkok and ride it all the way, sightseeing all day. The nearby sights are as spectacular as visiting the never rebuilt ancient city. However to demonstrate courtesy, pictures should be taken from a kneeling or crouching position.
