Jiaolan Shanfang is located in Qionglai, Chengdu, where nine buildings of the second phase of the project have been built. In order to maintain the architectural charm of local western Sichuan dwellings, the original terrain height difference was preserved to reduce the impact of large-scale excavation on the surrounding soil environment. Four old buildings were renovated and five new buildings were built. The original walls and wooden structures of the four renovated buildings were repaired and structurally reinforced. A complex of courtyards and interconnected buildings was reconstructed in the tranquil environment. The designer spent a lot of time working with suppliers to develop a new type of pepper wall paint made by mixing sand and local special stones. It is corrosion-resistant, moisture-resistant, warm, and natural, blending into the local environment. The design adopts a large-scale transparent open facade, blurring the boundaries between the building, interior, and environment. Light is used to participate in the spatial narrative, and as time passes and the sun's position changes, the light also moves.
