A royal temple in Wuhan with a history of 1,600 years

Baotong Temple is located at No. 549 Wuluo Road, Wuchang District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province. It was built in the Liu Song period of the Southern Dynasties (420–479) and was originally named Dongshan Temple. It has a history of more than 1,600 years. Built on a mountain, the temple covers an area of more than 110,000 square meters and has a mountain gate, Shengseng Bridge, a pond for releasing captive animals, a bell tower, a drum tower, a Maitreya Hall, a Mahavira Hall, a Sutra Library, a Patriarch Hall, east and west flower halls, a Buddha Recitation Hall, a Ksitigarbha Hall, an abbot's room, and a meditation hall. There is also the Hongshan Pagoda behind the temple. It is the first Buddhist site in the Three Chu Regions, one of the four famous Buddhist temples in Wuhan, and the oldest existing temple in Wuhan. Opening hours are 7:00–16:00 daily. They may be adjusted on holidays and other special occasions. Please refer to temporary notices for specific arrangements. The ticket price for Baotong Temple is CNY 10 per ticket. There are two ways to buy tickets: On-site purchase: You can scan the mini program code near the entrance of the temple to buy tickets for the day. Advance booking: You can book tickets through the Baotong Temple WeChat official account by selecting the "Ticket Booking" menu. Subway: Get off at Baotong Temple Station on Wuluo Road and walk about 150 meters to reach the temple. Bus: There are many bus routes, including 59, 401, and 413. Get off and walk about 150 meters. Parking lot: There is a parking lot in the temple, which is open to the public on non-holidays.
