Explore Xinchang Dafo Temple

Xinchang Dafo Temple is located in Xinchang County, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province. It is a key open temple in China, built in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, with a history of more than 1,600 years.  The most famous attraction in the temple is the Maitreya stone statue carved into the mountain. It is 16 meters high, with a distance of 10.6 meters between the knees. It is the largest indoor sitting statue in Jiangnan, known as the "largest Buddha in Jiangnan." Next to it is the Qianfo Temple, which houses 1,075 small stone Buddhas, known as the "Dunhuang Grottoes of Jiangnan." The Dafo Temple Scenic Area also has many unique attractions, such as the Shuanglin Grottoes, Prajna Valley, Foxin Square, and the Petrified Dinosaur Park. Foxin Square covers an area of more than 3,000 square meters and is composed of the enlarged "Buddha" character carved on the cliff of Nanming Mountain and the "heart" character on the flat ground below the cliff, which is spectacular. Prajna Valley was originally an underground quarry in the Ming Dynasty. It now displays a huge historical picture scroll of the Sinicization of Buddhism with Prajna culture, and houses the largest reclining Buddha in Asia, which is 37 meters long and 9 meters high. It is also the filming location for many film and television works, such as "The Long Ballad" and "One and Only."
