Among the three ancient towns of Hongcun, Xidi, and Chengkan, I chose Xidi. It is not as noisy as a city, nor is it too quiet or commercialized. I recommend staying here for a night to slowly experience the relaxed atmosphere of Xidi, the Hui-style architecture, the simple folk customs, the ancient streets and alleys, and the profound historical and cultural heritage. This should be the reclusive life you imagine! I randomly chose a homestay inside the scenic area, Shuxiayuanli Homestay, run by an elderly couple. They are very nice, and since my luggage was a bit heavy, the owner came to pick me up in an electric tricycle. Food Recommendations Restaurant name: Sanweitang (the owner is very nice and considerate, and when I had a stomachache, they made me brown sugar ginger tea). The dishes are all freshly made. Recommended dishes: stinky mandarin fish, braised hairy tofu, chicken soup, and five-spice wild vegetable omelet. If you like to drink, you can also try a cup of rice wine.
