#danangtrip
This time explore Hue City, you can going to Hue City by bus/car from Danang City, it takes about 2hours of driving. I visited the historical building and the famous attraction in Hue City: Hue Imperial Citadel.
The Imperial City of Hue was actually a walled fortress and palace belonged to the ancient city of Hue which was a capital city of the Nguyen Dynasty for 140 years date back from 1805 until 1945.
You can find the history of Vietnam especially about Nguyen Dynasty in this place. What i like the most about this place is theis insta-worthy building and the palace is modelled after the Forbidden City in Beijing. I highly recommend you to visit this place, and don’t forget to spent min 2hrs here (cz the area is so huge).
Entrance Fee: VND 200.000

The city,
The Imperial City of Hue, also known as the Citadel, is a large complex located in Hue, Vietnam. It was once the political and cultural center of the Nguyen Dynasty, which ruled Vietnam from 1802 to 1945. Today, the Imperial City is a popular tourist destination, known for its beautiful architecture, rich history, and cultural significance.
The Imperial City was constructed in the early 19th century, during the reign of Emperor Gia Long. It took over 30 years to complete, with work continuing under successive rulers. The complex covers an area of 520 hectares, with walls that are 10 meters high and 21 meters thick, surrounded by a moat that is 30 meters wide. The main entrance is through the Ngo Mon Gate, which is decorated with intricate carvings and elaborate roof details.
Inside the Citadel, there are numerous buildings, including palaces, temples, and administrative offices. These structures are arranged in a series of courtyards and gardens, each with its own unique design and purpose. Some of the most notable buildings include the Thai Hoa Palace, which was used for important ceremonies and official receptions, and the Forbidden Purple City, which was the private residence of the Emperor and his family.
The architecture of the Imperial City is a blend of traditional Vietnamese and French styles, reflecting the influences of both cultures during the time of its construction. The buildings are characterized by their colorful roofs, ornate carvings, and intricate details, including dragon motifs and depictions of mythical creatures.
The Imperial City of Hue is also known for its cultural significance. It was the site of many important events in Vietnamese history, including the coronation of emperors and the signing of important treaties. The complex was heavily damaged during the Vietnam War, but many of the buildings have since been restored, making it a must-see destination for visitors to Vietnam.

Hue Imperial City
#vietnamtrip Hue Imperial City is a window into Vietnam’s royal past. Once the seat of the Nguyen Dynasty, this sprawling complex features palaces, gates, temples, and a Forbidden Purple City, similar to Beijing’s Forbidden City.
Walking through the citadel feels like stepping into another era. Highlights include the Noon Gate, Thai Hoa Palace, and the The To Mieu Temple complex. The Perfume River runs alongside the citadel, adding to its tranquil charm.
Beyond the citadel, the nearby royal tombs of Emperor Tu Duc and Khai Dinh showcase grand architectural styles. Hue’s cuisine, such as bun bo Hue (spicy beef noodle soup), is another highlight, making it a cultural and culinary gem. A visit to Hue enriches any #VietnamTrip with history and elegance.
Must visit: Imperial City in Hue
I visited the Imperial City in Hue, and it was pretty interesting. The place is huge, with old palaces, temples, and walls that used to be part of the royal grounds. Some parts are a bit worn down, but I think that just adds to the charm. Walking around, you get a real sense of the history there.
The area was numerous bonsai trees was surely my favorite. And the color palette of the place is just so stunning and beautiful.
A tip: Wear comfy shoes because there’s a lot of walking, and the ground can be uneven. Also, bring some sunscreen or a hat—it can get hot.
One more tip: there is a coffee shop on the premises, and some vending machine machines to get water and another beverages.
I didn’t know that Hue was the capital of Vietnam for over 140 years. It was nice to learn about the place while walking through it. Overall, I’m glad I went. It’s a peaceful spot with a lot of history, and I think it’s worth a visit if you're in the area.

**BEST TIME TO TRAVEL**⏰
The best tourist season in Vietnam is from December to February. Although the cost of travel is relatively high during this season, the weather is extremely suitable.
Discover Imperial Grandeur at Hue, Vietnam
Hue, the former 19 century capital of imperial Vietnam, is located a couple of hours drive from Da Nang. The vintage bright yellows and reds, the ornate colonnades and intricate roof arrangements of the imperial palace are awe-inspiring. When I visited on 19 March, the weather was swelteringly hot. Be prepared and take plenty of water along with your camera.
The Hue Imperial Palace in Vietnam's history.
The saying 'If you don't go now, you'll end up going later' doesn't really apply to me... I guess it's more like 'If you don't go, then later is the right time'.
The Hue Imperial Palace was the last royal dynasty of Vietnam, the Nguyen Dynasty's palace grounds, and it is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The scale of the Hue Imperial Palace is quite large. The halls are also splendid and well-maintained, offering plenty to see. If you plan to take your time and explore every nook and cranny, you should allocate more than 2 hours.
Since the weather is hot, essentials like a parasol, hat, and water are a must.
The street food noodles outside the castle are decent, but if you're concerned about hygiene, you might want to pass on them and just have a refreshing juice instead.
A Must Visit Hue Vietnam Timeless Beauty
It's their winter season. It's perfect to walk around the Hue Citadel. I would normally avoid tour guides as I think they are overrated and can simply search Google on the places to check but getting a private car that speaks English made me reconsider. It was so much more worthwhile and meaningful to visit places when you understand it. All thanks to VM Travel. I got their services half way of my Vietnam Adventure but they made everything perfect for me at affordable price.
Important Note: Forget diet when in Hue. Everything is delicious. 😅😋

Ambiance/Facilities - the old royal castle is located in Hue. This palace like all palaces is huge in size and has a moat around it. Even though this is Vietnam but you can see how it is heavily influenced by the Chinese culture. Spent few hours there walking around. Worth it.

An icon of the Nguyen Dynasty, Imperial City of Hue
#tripblazers
The last monarch dynasty of Vietnam is ruled by the Nguyen dynasty from 1802 - 1945. This citadel is served as the forbidden city of the Nguyen Imperial family during their reign. It was built under the order of the first Emperor Gia Long in 1803, who shifted the capital from Thang Long (Hanoi currently) to Hue, which is also the seat of the Nguyen family. The monarch consulted the geomancer on which direction should the gates and the Emperor's seat should face during the construction. There is also a moat constructed encircling the citadel to protect it against foreign invasion. This citadel has served as the seat of the monarch until Emperor Bao Dai's abdication in 1945. It suffered heavy damages due to the 2 wars in 1947 and 1968, and major restoration works are still ongoing to rebuild the citadel to its original form.

Learn about the Ngyuen dynasty through this UNESCO World Heritage site. You may like to rent the Vietnamese traditional costumes for your photo ops while you walk through the pavilions and gardens. If you'd like to visit the temples, you'd need to dress appropriately to enter. 2-2.5 hours would be sufficient to cover the main sights. We chose to visit in the morning to avoid the afternoon sun, given the limited shelter. #hue

Hue Imperial City
Gorgeous Hue Imperial City and Citadel is a recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Most of the buildings in the complex belong to the 19th century. Some of the buildings are now under the reconstruction, but it doesn't spoil the overall impression.
You can take fantastic pictures there especially on a sunny day starting with the gate which is framed by flowery trees. Try to avoid large crowds of tourist coming on the weekdays closer to 4pm.
