Bell and drum tower are in central Beijing and you will probably walk passed them sometime. If not the two towers are a good place to head to followed by a stroll around the hutongs. I was lucky enough to witness a performance in the drum tower which was late afternoon about 4-5pm. The performance was enjoyable and worth hanging around for if you can. Walked between the two towers

I had been to the bell and drum tower in Xian previously and the ones in a Beijing were very different, not at all in a bad way. I don’t know if I could go in but at the time I couldn’t. These ones felt smaller and more personal. The ones in Xian were in the middle of an heavy traffic area so harder to get to and see. In Beijing they were in a small park. Because of this I felt ok to walk around and take my time and didn’t feel the need to find out if I could go inside, the park was worth the visit on its own. It was early spring so still a little cold and less people were out and I loved that. They are easy to miss but I think you should check them out. I’d do them on the way to something else as they are smaller.
