Hidden Gem: Como at Lake Como
#europetrip #italy #como
While many tourists head straight to Bellagio or other popular areas, the town of Como itself is a hidden gem worth exploring. We spent two delightful days strolling through this charming lakeside town, discovering its rich history and serene beauty. Highlights include visiting the impressive Como Cathedral (Duomo di Como), admiring the elegant Villa Olmo, and wandering the picturesque Piazza San Fedele. A leisurely walk along the lakefront promenade offered stunning views of the shimmering lake, especially during sunny autumn days when the vibrant foliage added a magical touch. Como’s tranquil atmosphere and captivating scenery left a lasting impression.
I visited Italy four times in one year, and I'm here to share the best routes from north to south!
Italy, a country full of romance and art, always attracts me. I visited four times in one year, and twice I chose this beautiful land without hesitation. Today, I will share a carefully planned itinerary for Italy, taking you from northern Italy to southern Italy, and showing you the scenery you can't miss.
Milan: The starting point of fashion and art
The journey begins in Milan, a city full of fashion. It is not only a shopping paradise, but also a palace of art. Here, you can enjoy world-class art works and feel the profound culture of Italy.
Lake Como: The back garden of Milan
Depart from Milan and drive for half an hour to Lake Como. This quiet lake is surrounded by mountains, and the lake is clear and bottomless, like a beautiful picture. Stroll in the small town by the lake and feel the tranquility and beauty. Varenna, Bellagio, Lenno, each town has its own unique charm, especially those villas hidden in the lake and mountains, such as Villa Monastero, Villa Melzi and Villa del Balbianello, which are even more fascinating.
Dolomites: Green Wonderland in July, August and September
Continue north to the Dolomites. Here, July, August and September are the time when the grass is green, and there may be snow in mid-September. Drive for 4 hours from Milan to this fairyland. On the Alpe di Siusi, you can enjoy the magnificent sunrise and sunset. The Sporthotelsonne where we stayed has a great view. In addition, Ortisei and Val di Funes are also places not to be missed, especially the iconic small church in Val di Funes, which is impressive.
Florence and Tuscany: The cradle of the Renaissance
Go south to Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance, and Piazzale Michelangelo is a great place to watch the sunset. In Tuscany, from May to early June is the time when the grass is green. It takes 3 hours to drive from Rome. Here, you can live for a week and feel the tranquility and comfort. Recommended accommodation Villa Cozzano, located in a beautiful manor, surrounded by S-shaped cypress trees and beautiful houses. In addition, the town of Pienza is also a good place to heal the soul. It is located in the valley and is full of tranquility and harmony.
Rome: The charm of the eternal city
How can you miss Rome when you come to Italy? This eternal city is full of historical and cultural atmosphere, and every corner hides a story. Here, you can explore the ruins of ancient Rome and feel the shock of time and space.
Sicily: A dreamland all year round
Finally, come to Sicily. Here you can play all year round. Although the summer season is hot, the beautiful scenery of Cefalu, Taormina and Syracuse is definitely worth a visit. Cefalu is a postcard of Sicily, Taormina is a colorful town on the cliff, and Syracuse is the location of the beautiful legend of Sicily. Flying from Rome or Milan to Palermo or Catania, and then renting a car to visit Sicily, is a very comfortable way to travel.
This route from northern Italy to southern Italy covers many beautiful scenery and features of Italy. Whether it's fashionable Milan, quiet Lake Como, magnificent Dolomites, Renaissance Florence and Tuscany, eternal Rome or dreamy Sicily, it's all fascinating. If you love Italy like me, you might as well follow this route guide and go deep into this beautiful land!
Unforgettable Hospitality: A Warm Welcome at a 17th-Century Monastery B&B in Como
#hospitality #100waysoftravel #italytrip #como #accomodation #lakecomo
Our stay at a charming B&B Convento S. Antonio in Como left us with fond memories, thanks to its warm hospitality and unique setting. The B&B is housed in a stunning 17th-century monastery, with beautifully preserved wall and ceiling sculptures that left us in awe. We adored our cozy loft-style room, which added to the experience. The owner was incredibly helpful and full of humor—when we realized Italy uses different plugs from other European countries, he kindly lent us adaptors from his kitchen. He even provided a detailed map, marked with recommended restaurants and must-see attractions. Breakfast was a highlight, served buffet-style at a large communal table, and we were lucky to visit during peach season, enjoying a variety of sweet and juicy peaches.

#coupletravel #100waysoftravel #beautiful_italy #italy #lakecomo #romance #varenna #bellagio#como
Lake Como is the perfect spot for a romantic getaway, with its stunning scenery and charming little towns scattered around the lake. Surrounded by mountains and full of Italian charm, it’s a place where you can really unwind. We made sure to visit Bellagio, Menaggio, and Varenna—must-see towns that each have their own unique vibe. Instead of driving, we took ferries between the towns, which gave us amazing views of the colorful villages along the lake. We loved strolling through the peaceful streets, stopping for lunch and dinner at cozy Italian restaurants, and of course, enjoying plenty of gelato. The whole experience was just magical and the perfect escape for couples.
Good morning from Lake Como 🇮🇹
#lakes
Spending a day at Lake Como this summer was like stepping into a postcard! The lake’s beauty is truly something you have to see to believe. We started our day in the charming town of Bellagio, often called the “Pearl of Lake Como.” The ferry ride to Bellagio cost about €10, and the views from the water were breathtaking, with the Alps in the background and elegant villas lining the shores.
Once in Bellagio, we wandered through the narrow cobblestone streets, filled with boutiques and cafes. We visited the stunning Villa Melzi Gardens, where the entrance fee was €6. The gardens were incredibly peaceful, with lush greenery and statues overlooking the lake.
Afterward, we enjoyed a leisurely lunch at a lakeside restaurant, savoring the local cuisine while soaking in the view. The day ended with a relaxing walk along the lakefront, watching the sunset over the water. Lake Como’s combination of natural beauty, charming towns, and serene atmosphere made it an unforgettable experience. 🌊🏞️ #trip #LakeComo #ItalianLakes #Bellagio #ScenicViews #TravelItaly
Passalacqua.
I highly recommend Passalacqua! I stayed there in May, and it was the highlight of my trip to Italy. I experienced the best service, the best food, the best drinks, and the best views! Compared to other places around Lake Como, Passalacqua offers a sense of luxury and privacy. I can't wait to go back!
This place is an absolute sanctuary. My husband Ben and I stayed here, and we loved every aspect of our experience. The service was impeccable, and we are especially grateful to Eduardo, Daniele, and Stefania for making us feel cherished. We are thankful for Alberto's exceptional customer service upon arrival from another hotel, and because we loved the property so much, we decided to extend our stay by two nights, the 60-minute massage with Silvia was the best! The obsession with every beautiful detail of this property elevated the experience from luxury to world-class.

Exploring the Villas of Lake Como: A Luxurious Journey Through Medieval Art
Lake Como, a stunning destination known as a "vacation spot for old money," has long been famous. The villas hidden along the lakeside are like dazzling jewels that attract countless visitors. This time, we finally had the opportunity to see them in person and experience the breathtaking charm of medieval art.
Traveling from Milan to the villas of Lake Como is very convenient. You can choose to drive and enjoy the scenic views along the way, arriving in about an hour. Of course, if you don't want to drive, you can also take public transportation. From Milan's Lago di Como station, take the PC10 bus line, get off at Lenno station, and then walk to the villa. We chose this route because we returned the car early on our last day in Milan and added this trip at the last minute, which turned out to be a pleasant surprise.
However, buying tickets to enter the villa can be a challenge. Remember to book your tickets in advance! We didn't book in advance, and when we arrived, we found that tickets for the day were already sold out online. Online tickets usually need to be booked 2-3 weeks in advance, or you can only buy garden tickets. During peak season, even if you have a ticket, you may still need to wait in line to enter. We waited for about an hour because the garden limits the number of visitors to ensure a good experience.
But all the waiting was worth it. Once inside the villa, we were immediately captivated by the beautiful view from the Lake Terrace P2. This location was a filming site for Star Wars and is as beautiful as a painting. European couples play and take photos here, as if they are in an oil painting. Standing on the terrace, we enjoyed the distant views of the lake and mountains and the exquisite architecture of the villa, feeling incredibly happy.
The villa's terrace is breathtakingly beautiful. Green trees surround the columns, creating a unique landscape. Standing on the terrace, you can overlook the entire Lake Como and feel the tranquility and luxury. The large mushroom tree was an unexpected surprise. It grows along a winding path and looks very cute, adding a fairy-tale touch to the villa.
In addition, the various benches in the villa are great photo spots. Whether it's a vintage wooden bench or a modern minimalist metal bench, they all make for great photos. We took a picture, and it was like a beautiful painting. These benches not only provide a place for visitors to rest but also become a beautiful scenery line in the villa.
In conclusion, this trip to the villas of Lake Como was very rewarding. We not only experienced the luxurious charm of medieval art but also felt the tranquility and beauty of nature. If you plan to visit the villas of Lake Como, remember to book your tickets in advance, plan your itinerary, and prepare your camera and mood to capture those beautiful moments!
Chilling at Como

I recently had the incredible opportunity to visit Como, Italy, a breathtaking destination nestled along the shores of Lake Como. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the town’s timeless beauty. The scenic views of the sparkling lake surrounded by majestic mountains were nothing short of magical.

One of the highlights was a visit to the Como Cathedral, an awe-inspiring example of Gothic and Renaissance design. I also took a leisurely boat ride on Lake Como, which offered unparalleled views of the picturesque lakeside villas and lush green hillsides.

Mandarin Oriental, Lago di Como.
🌻The home of Italian celebrities - Mandarin Oriental, Lago di Como.
🌱The hotel is made up of several villas, and the Villa Roccabruna, where the lobby is located, was built in the 19th century and was the home of the famous Italian opera singer Giuditta Pasta.
🌱The rooms in the hotel combine modern and minimalist styles with a strong oriental flavor. The blue-green decor is soft and delicate, and the lake view can be enjoyed from the living room to the bedroom, making it a very pleasant combination of natural environment and comfort. The terrace is a great addition, and if the weather is nice, it's a great place to lie on a lounger and enjoy the sun.
🌱In autumn and winter, Lake Como is even more gentle and deep than in summer. Especially at sunset, the pink and blue sky, the golden waves on the lake and the golden leaves are intertwined, so beautiful that you can't take your eyes off them.
🌱The hotel has three dining venues, a Japanese and Italian restaurant, a simple bar and bistro, and a poolside snack bar, and the hotel also offers a boat trip around the lake. Of course, there is also room service, with a variety of options to choose from.

Passing by Lake Como felt like stepping into a dream! The shimmering blue waters surrounded by dramatic mountains were just incredible 🌄. I took a ferry from Como to Bellagio, which cost around €10, and the views from the boat alone were worth it. Each village we passed looked more picturesque than the last—Varenna was my personal favorite with its colorful houses and cozy streets.
Once in Bellagio, I spent hours wandering through its narrow, cobblestone lanes and stumbled upon Villa Melzi’s garden (entrance €6), which was so peaceful. The elegant villas along the lake’s edge are stunning, and every corner seemed photo-worthy!
If you’re into hiking, there are great trails nearby, but even just strolling along the waterfront with an espresso in hand was enough to make me feel like I was living in a postcard 🏞️. Make sure you plan for a sunset boat ride—the colors reflecting on the lake were unforgettable.

Lake Como is located in northern Italy and is surrounded by towering mountains and beautiful landscapes. As soon as I arrived, I felt the calm and peaceful atmosphere surrounding the place. The clear blue waters reflected the beautiful mountains and villages that decorate the hills. 🏞️💧
I enjoyed a boat trip across the lake, where I could see luxurious villas dating back to ancient times. Each villa had a special character and had a great view of the lake, and the atmosphere was romantic and touching. 🚤🏰
I wandered around the small towns around the lake, such as Bellagio and Varenna, with their cobblestone streets and charming cafes. I had a delicious meal at one of the restaurants overlooking the lake, where I enjoyed a mix of fresh local Italian cuisine. 🍝🍷
One of the most beautiful moments was visiting Villa del Balbianello, where I enjoyed the beautiful gardens and panoramic views of the lake. It was a perfect place to admire the beauty of nature. ☺️
Lake Como is an incomparable place to relax and enjoy nature, the perfect place for a peaceful holiday filled with the true beauty of Italy. An unforgettable experience!
