The ancient trees in the Moli Scenic Area are tall and straight, and the dense forest blocks out the sun. Walking through the forest, you can feel the cool breeze and the scent of flowers on your clothes. At the end of the canyon, you can see a waterfall cascading down from a cliff over 60 meters high. The area is surrounded by mountains on three sides, with a flat area of over 10 acres inside. A few dozen meters from the entrance, you will see a hot spring pool, with water as clear as crystal. Legend has it that this was a bath built by wild elephants for the Buddha. Moli Tropical Rainforest Scenic Area Near the hot spring, there is an ancient tree with twisted roots, and beneath it is a golden Dai-style pagoda pavilion, which houses a stone with a giant "footprint" embedded in its sloping rock wall. The toes and palm are clearly visible, and this is the famous Buddha's footprint in the Buddhist world of South Asia and Southeast Asia. The shops on this road don't even have Chinese characters on them. It's like being in Myanmar. 🌻 Zongfo Temple There was a monk giving a sermon on the second floor. It was very peaceful. There was a sign at the entrance saying "No tourists allowed". The Dai Palace is opposite, but it's still under construction, so we didn't go up. 🌻 Bangbeng Village, Mengmao Town This was a pleasant surprise on the way to Zongfo Temple. It's a small, exquisite Dai village with a temple and sculptures in the style of Theravada Buddhism. There is a bilingual radio broadcast in Chinese and Dai. At dusk, it can feel like a mysterious Southeast Asian horror movie. 🌻 Jiegao Port A classic check-in point. There are shops selling Myanmar and Thai specialties nearby. 🌻 Bahu Coffee The decor and menu are interesting. We ordered the Three Seconds (a special blend of oil orange, jasmine, and oolong) and the coconut latte. The latter was surprisingly good, very fragrant and not too sweet. 🌻 Akkao's Hand Grasp Rice This is a famous Jingpo hand grasp rice restaurant. The food was okay, but unfortunately, we didn't get to try the avocado juice that netizens rave about. The waitress had thanaka powder on her face, which is a feature of Myanmar and Ruili. It's said to be cooling and good for acne.

  • Ruili, Yunnan: A small border town separated from Myanmar by a wall.

    In April, I drove from Dali to Ruili, a journey of more than 400 km that took nearly 6 hours. I arrived in the evening, and after dropping off my luggage, I went to the Jiegao Port. There are clear road signs indicating the way to the border, and there are checkpoints near the port to inspect every vehicle entering and leaving. I took a quick look around the port. It was already evening, so there were not many people around. There was only a SWAT vehicle parked at the entrance, and several SWAT officers patrolling the entrance and exit. There are many jade shops and places to gamble on stones near the port. The water is deep, so unless you are an expert, I suggest you think twice before buying anything. The next day, I went to One Village, Two Countries, a must-see attraction in Ruili. There is a well in the village, and the groundwater flows through it. The well is shared by the Chinese Yinjiang Village and the Myanmar Mangxiu Village, and it has nurtured people from both countries. There is a hollow fence in the village, and Myanmar is on the other side. Children from Myanmar will run to the fence and ask for food and fruit. The entire fence is monitored, so try not to have any physical contact with children or adults outside the fence. If you take something handed to you from outside the fence, law enforcement officers will come to question you. The village is full of exotic buildings, and if you take photos, you might be mistaken for being in Southeast Asia. Some places are still under construction, but they are expected to be completed next year. Image 8 is the Menghuan Grand Golden Pagoda in Mangshi, the largest hollow pagoda in Asia. You can visit the inside of the pagoda, but there is an entrance fee, and you must take off your shoes to enter. Images 9 and 10 are the Menghuan Silver Pagoda, which is more photogenic than the Golden Pagoda, but not as significant in terms of religious beliefs. Image 11 is the natural hot spring in Tengchong. If you are interested in hot springs, you can go and have fun. There are dozens of different pools to choose from.

    One Village, Two Countries 🇨🇳🇲🇲 Next to the famous Sino-Myanmar border marker No. 71, there is a typical geographical wonder of "one village, two countries". The border line divides a Dai village into two, the Chinese side is called "Yinjing", and the Myanmar side is called "Mangxiu". Most of the villagers are Dai people, they speak the same language and have the same customs; Myanmar children go to school in China and learn Chinese.
