Neuschwanstein Castle: A Fairytale Come to Life
#europetrip #füssen #castle
Visiting Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany felt like stepping into a storybook. Nestled in the Bavarian Alps, this 19th-century masterpiece, commissioned by King Ludwig II, is often called the "real-life fairytale castle," and it’s easy to see why. Its soaring towers, intricate details, and dramatic setting against lush green hills and rugged mountains are truly magical. The view from the Marienbrücke bridge is breathtaking, offering the perfect vantage point to admire the castle’s grandeur. Inside, the lavishly decorated rooms reflect Ludwig’s love for myths and Wagnerian operas, adding to the castle’s enchanting allure. Exploring this iconic landmark, I couldn’t help but feel like I was living in a dream.

The first castle with electricity
Romania’s spectacular Peles Castle has become well known for being the first castle in the world to have electricity installed in it, but visitors will soon discover it has far more to offer than just that.
Despite being a ‘new’ castle, in fact the newest in Europe this Royal residence includes beautiful and opulent architecture, richly decorated in a neo-renaissance style with stunning garden La overlooking the surrounding mountains which are often snowcapped throughout the winter #romania #castle #voyagevibes
Dracula’s castle
A visit to Transylvania would not be complete without a visit to the iconic Castle Bran just outside Brasov. The medieval fortress set on a hilltop surrounded by beautiful countryside was made famous by Bram Stoker’s horror novel based on the actual and infamous leader of the region Vlad the impaler.
However despite the myth the castle itself is never mentioned in the story and the castle was not even set foot in by the tyrannical leader.
The unexpected part of this is the fact that once you enter the castle you are entering what seems like a family home which has been perfect preserved form its days as a royal residence. #voyagevibes #romania #castle #dracula

Findlater Castle. 🏰🏴
#traveldiaries
The ruins of Findlater Castle stand on a rocky promontory projecting out into the sea some two miles east of Cullen and a mile west of Sandend.
It is one of the most dramatical situated of any Scottish castle, perched on a promontory joined to the mainland by a narrow neck of land, with almost sheer cliffs on the other three sides.
The name "Findlater" seems to come from the Gaelic "fionn leitir", meaning "white cliff", and the first record of a castle here dates back as far as 1246. In the early 1260s the existing castle here was strengthened by King Alexander III in preparation for an expected invasion by King Håkon IV of Norway. Though this invasion concluded in defeat for Håkon at the Battle of Largs, the Norse do seem to have occupied Findlater, and nothing is known out this early castle on the site.

Samurai Secrets: A Journey Through Nijo Castle
This is my favourite castle among all the castles I visited in Japan so far. Nijo Castle in Kyoto is a UNESCO World Heritage site and it is a stunning example of feudal-era architecture. A must-visit for history enthusiasts.
Getting There - You can get there via local train.
Highlights - This castle was built in 1600s as the castle of Tokugawa Ieyasu, first shogun of the Edo period. The castle has the most beautiful gardens, intricate interiors. The most famous feature is the "nightingale floors", which "chirps" or creaks when stepped on, orginally meant to warn against intruders. The beautiful castle offers a glimpse into Japan's samurai history and culture.

Bratislava Castle is the main castle of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. The massive rectangular building with four corner towers stands on an isolated rocky hill of the Little Carpathians, directly above the Danube river, in the middle of Bratislava.
The castle, which written history begins in 907, can be seen from many places in Bratislava.
It housed Celtic rulers, Great Moravian magnates and Hungarian kings, experienced periods of boom and bust, was restored into its most famous shape and exposed a golden treasure.
Bratislava castle entrance fee: Basic admission would cost about INR 811/-. However, every first Sunday of each month, they give a free entry.
You can enter and walk through the castle grounds and gardens (which are very pleasant), enjoy beautiful views of the Danube and the city of Bratislava.

Of History and architecture
We were part of a day tour from Toulouse to Carcassonne. And the castle was one of the stops we made during the tour of this lovely medieval city. The location is especially nice. The view from ramparts is worth the time and you see a panorama of the country side.
In terms of the castle experience, what makes a large difference is the guide. Because it provides some fascinating insights into the history and legends associated with the castle. We were also told of a light show that takes place in the evenings. And from what i have heard, it is an even better way to experience this castle. Overall, a place worthy of visit.

A most luxurious castle in the Netherlands
#myhiddengems
I learnt the importance of the NS app, when I boarded a train headed towards vleuten, but the train didn't stop at Vleuten. So yes keep that in mind, not all trains do. Mine was a day try trip from Utrecht. A quick train ride to Vleuten and then a bus ride to the nearest stop of the castle. Walked 15 more minutes and there was the castle. One could also do this from from Amsterdam but may be the train ride would be 50-60 minutes.
Any who, if the idea of the largest castle in the country and with a Disney like architecture appeals to you. You cannot miss the De Haar castle. It has a massive park surrounding it.
You might want to not rush or have too many plans for the same day. I mean I took my time and easily spent close to 4 hours here. But even otherwise I would say 2 plus hours easily for the castle and garden alone. It's got several rooms and there will be information to take in. I paid two entry fees. One for the garden and one for castle. But I do remember it being under 30 euros altogether. This is a must add on your itinerary.
