#folkactivities I just had the most incredible experience visiting the ASTRA Museum of Traditional Folk Civilization in Sibiu, Romania! 🌍 If you’re into history, culture, or just enjoy being outdoors, this place is a must-see. The museum is one of the largest open-air museums in Europe, and it’s like stepping back in time to explore Romania’s rural past. The entrance fee was around 25 RON (€5), which is a steal considering how much there is to see. The museum covers over 200 hectares, so be prepared to do a lot of walking. 🚶♂️ You’ll find traditional wooden houses, watermills, and even churches, all preserved to showcase different regions and periods of Romanian history. Each exhibit is so detailed, I felt like I was walking through a real village. The interactive displays and live demonstrations, like blacksmithing and weaving, really bring the past to life. What’s great is that the museum is located in the Dumbrava Sibiului Natural Park, so the scenery is just as beautiful as the exhibits. 🌳 I spent a good few hours wandering around, and it’s easy to lose track of time here. If you’re visiting with kids, they’ll love the boat rides on the lake in the middle of the park. Nearby, you can also visit Sibiu’s historic city center, which is just a short drive away. After spending the day at the museum, I’d recommend heading back into town for a coffee in one of the cozy cafes in Piața Mare. Whether you’re a history buff or just looking for a peaceful day out in nature, ASTRA Museum is definitely worth the visit. Nearby, the Astra Museum of Traditional Folk Civilization was another highlight.
