Explore my day in Copenhagen, stayed at Next Copenhagen hostel if you are on budget. It’s is conveniently located in the centre of Copenhagen city centre.
Start off the day’s meal at sct. peders Bärgeri, with delicious varieties of pastry and bakery to choose from, and beautiful interior decorations as they got a few seats indoor for you to dine-in. Take a train towards Helsingør and explore Kronborg Castle, journey takes less than one and half hour. There are regular guided tour during the day, telling you about stories of castle. Alternatively, get the castle map and explore yourself from the self guides. You will need around one and half hours to explore the whole castle. Behind the castle, there is Kronborg beach where you may enjoy the sea breeze and part of Sweden view at opposite side. Stroll along the harbour and take the train back to Copenhagen towards Home of Carlsberg. You will need to book in advance for entrance slot and it is free entrance if you have your Copenhagen pass. Travel journey takes less one and half hour, so you may plan your itinerary accordingly. You will need to go ticket counter and receive a waist band for free beer or drink at the bar after you complete the tour. Tour will begin with Carlsberg family, history and how they acclaimed museums and the Carlsberg Research Laboratory. The tour estimates takes 1.5 hour to complete. You will walk through a little garden heading towards the bar, choose 1 of of 4 types of beer type, enjoy at their indoor seatings. As it is getting late, I travel back to København station for dinner at restaurant Smagsløget, they are popular with roasted pork sandwiches, delicious homemade Danish meatball, homemade traditional Danish roast pork as well as tasty potato salad to end the marvelous day. #copenhagen #castle #myitinerary #localfood #thingstodo #travel #denmark

Visit the City hall for free. Than Tivoli gardens and the area around are always a good idea, even if you don't visit the park, there is some good decoration worth to take few pictures. Enjoy! 😊

I discovered this charming little cake shop near Nyhavn. The store is quite small and very cute. Upon entering, you’ll find only a cake sales area with no seating, but you can go to the adjacent restaurant to sit down and order some of their delicious cakes.
Paulette focuses on premium, fresh flavors, and each cake beautifully showcases the taste of its fruits. I tried the pistachio cake, which had a strong lemon flavor on top, perfectly balanced with the sweetness of the pistachios. The sweet and tangy notes complemented each other nicely, making it not overly rich.

This café is one of the most famous in Denmark, with a location on the upper floor of Illum.
Sitting by the window, you get a great view of the HAY furniture store. The coffee is roasted in-house, and though it might just be my perception, Danish beans seem to have a more acidic flavor.
The croissant is definitely delicious, living up to the reputation of Danish pastries—crispy on the outside with a rich, aromatic bread inside.

I stumbled upon this café on my way to the DAC. While it may not be particularly unique, it's a good spot to take a break.
The café has two floors, with the basement level being mostly empty, while most customers sit upstairs. In addition to coffee, it's also a great place for working or holding casual meetings due to its relaxed atmosphere.
The coffee is decent, nothing extraordinary, but still okay.

From the outside, Social looks much like a residential building. Once inside, you’ll find it’s a cozy, intimate space. In addition to serving coffee and pastries, they offer some great brunch options. I particularly enjoyed the yogurt with fresh fruit—it was delicious and very fresh.
Many Danes love working in cafés, and this spot is no exception, with people sipping coffee while answering emails.
After a meal, you can take a relaxing walk by the water nearby, which adds to the overall charm of the experience.

What impressed me the most was the dessert—refreshingly light with a layer of ice cream on top of fresh raspberries, delivering a perfect balance of sweetness and tartness with a cool finish.

The lobby on the first floor is filled with professionals working, and there are private cubicles available for meetings, ensuring a comfortable and quiet environment!
When I visited, my power adapter malfunctioned, but the hotel had European-standard adapters available for purchase!

2. Visit the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek museum on the last Wednesday of each month for free. The second floor showcases works by Impressionist masters like Monet, Van Gogh, and Gauguin.
3. Visit Thorvaldsens Museum for free every Wednesday.
4. Wondering around the Open market: TorvehallerneKBH in the city center. The food is expensive though, so just feast with your eyes.
5. Wander the streets. Along Gråbrødretorv, Strøget, or Værnedamsvej, you'll find old houses, cafes, and home goods stores filled with Hygge elements.
6. Visit Nordic churches. Surprisingly, most churches in Copenhagen are free to enter. Whether it's the minimalist Church of Our Lady or the grand Frederik's Church with the largest dome in Scandinavia, they bring a sense of inner peace.

But this journey to discover Nordic happiness led me to read *The Little Book of Hygge* before my trip, and I learned that Hygge isn’t about spending more to gain happiness. You can then pay per ride which might be a cheaper option if you only want to do a couple rides. Long weekend in Copenhagen (an absolute must!)
In April 2023 I took a trip to Copenhagen, my first time visiting Denmark and in fact the Nordics. Out of all the European cities I've visited, this is my favourite!

While in the Danish capital, you must visit Kastellet Fortress to get a glimpse of the historic culture Copenhagen has to offer. While in the area, The Little Mermaid is worth paying a visit; despite all the vandalism she's been through, she's survived to tell the tale to hundreds of tourists that visit every day.
You can't visit Denmark without visiting Sankt Peders Bageri, Copenhagen's oldest Danish bakery. I'd recommend a cinnamon roll.
For the budding photographer, The Round Tower is worth a journey for the panoramic view of the city. 📷
Copenhagen Zoo if you find time, is incredibly vast as well and it's very good value for money.
At night, the city comes to life with a busy atmosphere, buildings lighting up the sky and tourists lining the streets as they enjoy local food and drink.
Know before you go...
- Plan ahead for accommodation - hotels are expensive; while hostels offer great value for money.
- Card payments are the future in Denmark, I'd advise against exchanging cash.
- 3-4 days is about the right amount of time to enjoy what the city has to offer.

This church was named after philosopher and hymn composer N.F.S. Grundvig, with a design competition in 1913 and the winner being Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint, and construction was completed in 1940. The church was built in the Impressionism style, with the designer studying the architecture of various villages in Denmark and blending it together. The vertical Gothic lines make the church stand out and be as beautiful as we see it. Inside the church, there is a long hallway with beautiful natural light. If you plan to go, make sure to check the opening and closing times, because sometimes in the late afternoon the church holds ceremonies that may close earlier than usual. Photos and videos can be taken inside, but please be careful not to disturb the peace. How to get here There is a bus stop nearby, or you can use Uber/Taxi.

The food is delicious, the atmosphere is nice, the air quality is excellent, walking around the city feels safe, and the places are pleasant. Everything is really good. 🇩🇰 Of course, Copenhagen is an old port city in Europe and the Kingdom of Denmark. The first place to start is “Nyhavn Pier”.
