The Saint Jean Baptiste or the Lyon cathedral is a magnificent cathedral located in the heart of old town, Lyon. The train station tok is very near. That and it being free to enter did mean substatial crowds. But don't let it being free make you think it's any less. It's huge and has your classic cathedral design with charming stained glass. Which reminds me that if you visit during the noon, you get to see these stained glasses at work as light passes through them. But noon would most likely involve a queue to get in. The ceiling is impressive as well. The courtyard is nice too and it provides shade. Good spot to relax for a while. Boulogne was better than we exoected. This area of Old Boulogne where the basilica snd castel are, it is wonderful to walk around with cafes and shops to visit. If you get a combined ticket for the castle and the church. It is even more affordable. The cathedral has a peaceful atmosphere. Makes for a relaxing stop. The cathedral is surrounded by gardens. Such a joy to experience a beauty like the cathedral of st. corentin in Quimper. Excellent example of the Breton gothic architecture. On of the most beautiful monuments in all of Brittany. The stained glass windows are a captivating sight. Never fails to draw your attention. While the art and interiors are old dated to 19th century, the huilding has a change in the nave direction. There is informational given about it's construction through the interactive screen placed outside. With the extended roaming across Europe, more specifically France. I thought i was running the risk of an overdose of church and cathedrals. So I wasn't looking forward to much when I visited the notre Damme de la treille. Instead, it turned out to be a very interesting experience. This cathedral is very different from what I had seen. Of course there are similarities or resemblance you can spot. You see the west facade is very unusual. It is completely different from the other side. Apparently, it was constructed post the world war. There is artwork included in the cathedral and the lights too are unusual. The reason why I say it is unique, is because this is not your traditional French cathedral. Much more Neo gothic architecture and style. Rouen is a beautiful city with so much to see. The cathedrale of Notre Dame is one example for fine heritage. It is a beautiful and gigantic structure. This romanesque and gothic styled cathedral is known to be the tallest in france since the reconstruction of its cast iron spires. These spires are very noticeable from all across the city. And when you climb up the tower you get an excellent view of the city. More famously if it feels like you have seen it before. That could be due to the great painter Calude Monet, who painted a series of this cathedral. Almost 30 representations of it. Also, the cathedral has the tomb of Richard the Lionheart. Visiting the Cathedral de la Major was a wonderful experience. Its limestone facade, marble decorations, rich mosaics and the intricate carvings create such a sense of grandeur. Since it is located near the port. Both the views from here and elsewhere in the city when you see the cathedral from a distance. It's a spectacular sight. The best part is the cathedral is free to visit. You may make a donation. With it being so hot outside, the cathedral was a saviour not only from the heat. It's a French gothic Cathedral that is made from bricks. That has a certain charm to it. And I'm even told that it happens to be the world's largest brick cathedral. #myhiddengems The Nevsky cathedral was part of our sightseeing for the day. It turned out to be the most impressive of stops. It is bigger than it looks. And has beautiful art on its walls. When the lights are turned on inside. The sight becomes even prettier. I wasn't able to take pictures inside as they required extra paying for pictures which wasn't nice to charge. Anyhow, so the security tends to be stiff with ensuring no one takes pics without paying. Anyhow, it's a great addition to the day's itinerary.
