Three months after a high-profile Kickstarter campaign funded Zach Braff‘s “Wish I Was Here,” the indie drama’s shoot has been among the most active productions in Los Angeles.
“The dailies look great and the plan is to get it ready in time for Sundance,” said Worldview Entertainment topper Christopher Woodrow, whose company is providing financing. “Shooting in L.A. made sense because of the availability of the actors.”
Worldview came on to provide gap financing to “Wish I Was Here” while the month-long Kickstarter campaign — which raised $3.1 million — was in its final week. Besides Braff, cast includes Kate Hudson, Mandy Patinkin, Ashley Greene, Jim Parsons and Josh Gad.
Filming began earlier this month and is set to conclude Sept. 6. The film has been shot in Hollywood, east Pasadena, Ladera Heights, downtown Los Angeles and on Leo Carrillo Beach.
The film totaled 12 days of permitted shoots last week, according to the FilmL.A. permitting agency. Those included driving shots in unincorporated Los Angeles near Lancaster; a private residence off Pacific Coast Highway between Pacific Palisades and Malibu; canyon roads in the Santa Monica Mountains; and private residences and streets in Windsor Square.

Braff is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with his brother Adam. Stacey Sher and Michael Shamberg will produce via their Double Feature Films.
Braff will portray a struggling actor, husband and father trying to find his identity and purpose at age 35. He winds up trying to home school his two children when his father can no longer afford to pay for private education and the only available public school is on its last legs.
