Cillian Murphy

Cillian Murphy is an Irish actor from Cork, Ireland who is widely considered to be one of his country’s greatest contemporary actors. He gained worldwide recognition for playing the lead role in Danny Boyle’s 2002 zombie movie “28 Days Later,” which is widely considered one of the greatest horror movies of the 21st century. He stayed in the horror genre by starring opposite Rachel McAdams in Wes Craven’s 2005 movie “Red Eye” and then made a name for himself as a dramatic actor by headlining Ken Loach’s 2006 Irish war drama “The Wind That Shakes the Barley,” which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Murphy’s career in Hollywood is largely defined by his collaborations with Christopher Nolan, which span three films in the director’s “Dark Knight” trilogy as well as “Inception,” “Dunkirk” and “Oppenheimer.” The latter marked Murphy’s first time leading a Nolan picture. He received critical acclaim for “Oppenheimer,” with many film critics calling it Murphy’s greatest acting achievement to date. His films also includes the Paramount horror tentpole “A Quiet Place Part II.” Murphy is perhaps best known for his leading role on the BBC period drama series “Peaky Blinders,” which grew a passionate following in the U.S. when the series became available to stream on Netflix. Murphy starred in the series as Tommy Shelby from 2013 to 2022, and he’s expressed interest in reprising the role for a potential movie.
