Kevin Costner is an Academy Award-winning actor, director and producer. He was born on January 18, 1955, in Lynwood, California. He began acting in the early '80s, primarily in bit parts until his big break playing Al Capone's foe Eliot Ness in the 1987 Brian De Palma crime epic "The Untouchables." From there, Costner starred in a hot streak of critical and commercial film hits, including two classic baseball movies, 1988's "Bull Durham" and 1989's "Field of Dreams.” Costner's most iconic work is the 1990 western "Dances With Wolves," which he produced, directed and stars in. The film was a box office smash which was nominated for 12 Oscars and won seven, including Best Picture and Best Director for Costner. From there, Costner's hot streak continued, with starring roles in Oliver Stone's provocative 1991 film "JFK," 1991's "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," 1992's "The Bodyguard" and 1994's western "Wyatt Earp." 

The 1995 epic "Waterworld" was an enormous commercial flop, which kicked off an era of lower-profile work for the actor. In the late '90s through 2000s, Costner was still leading films like 1996's "Tin Cup," 2000's "Thirteen Days" and 2014's "Draft Day." But he also started taking supporting roles in blockbusters like 2013's "Man of Steel" and 2014's "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit," as well as awards fare like 2016's "Hidden Figures" and 2017's "Molly's Game." In 2012, Costner successfully transitioned to television with an Emmy-winning role in the historical miniseries "Hatfields & McCoys." In 2018, Paramount Network launched their first scripted series, "Yellowstone," a modern western which starred Costner as wealthy ranch owner John Dutton. The show became a critical and commercial hit, and Costner was awarded a Golden Globe for his work. He is set to exit the series at the end of its fifth season. In addition to acting, Costner has recorded several albums and toured with his own country band, Kevin Costner & Modern West.
