  • In September, we worked with Qualcomm to make our Windows App compatible with Snapdragon, becoming one of the first VPNs to do so. Our Head of Product on Desktop, Himmat Bains has sat down with Qualcomm and published a Developer Blog on how we worked together to achiever this. Learn more below!

Bringing ExpressVPN’s security to a new generation of Windows on Snapdragon technology has been a career highlight for me. I spoke with Qualcomm on their Developer Blog and went into more detail on the whole process, including how we opted for a semi-native design—building out mission-critical features like Lightway natively, and emulating the remaining elements. Checkout the full blog post below! This wouldn’t have been possible without our amazing Windows Team led by Robert Raksanyi and Luca Natella, supported by Jose Antonio Blaya Garcia, who worked tirelessly to deliver this in record time. Also many thanks to Rami Husseini, PJ Jacobowitz and Maria Stenina at Qualcomm for collaborating with us on such an exciting project. As always I am eternally grateful to Lauren Hendry Parsons and Jack Buckley for their communication wisdoms.

  • Last week, Aung Myint Myat from the ExpressVPN security team presented to a group of cybersecurity professionals at the BSides Myanmar Information Security Conference about Lumma Stealer, an advanced information-stealing malware operating within a malware-as-a-service (MaaS) framework. We hoped the talk raised awareness of these advanced malware threats and showed how organizations can prevent and minimize their impact. It is important to have these discussions around threat hunting and malware analysis. Even better, we hope this helps inspire the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.

  • Constant innovation is part and parcel of the work we do at ExpressVPN. When existing solutions to problems don’t quite meet our expectations, we have (in our opinion) some of the best engineers in the industry working to address the challenges. One such feature we rigorously analyzed was existing dedicated IP solutions. We set out to do something unique: create a service where we cannot link the dedicated IP to the user. Just like our VPN service, there’s no way for someone to trace an IP address back to you, because even we do not know your dedicated IP. To showcase how we achieved this level of security and anonymity with our dedicated IP solution, we released a technical white paper. It dives deep into the engineering design and implementation processes that make it work. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/gtD2kzEg

  • Our digital privacy expert Lauren Hendry Parsons on Black Friday Deals - and what to watch out for!

I'm featured in The Guardian's fantastic round-up on how to find genuine Black Friday Deals! There wasn’t room for my data privacy spiel on TV deals - so I’m going to put it here: Shoppers need to know two things this Black Friday. First, Black Friday deals aren’t always the best value. Second, TVs are no longer just TVs—they’ve become advertising platforms. Globally, TV manufacturers now make more money from built-in smart TV advertising than they do from the hardware. This is not limited to own-brand TV manufacturers—it’s a tactic used by the premium brands too. Today, smart TVs are a barely profitable loss leader. The real money is in buying and selling live user data for the years to come. Make smart choices when it comes to smart devices - and know what your trade offs are! It's not about avoiding data harvesting entirely, that's almost impossible, it's about understanding what's being collected, understanding what settings you have control of, and making sure that you're happy with that. https://lnkd.in/ekbN85Uk

Today I had a chat to The Independent about Australia's plans to ban under 16s from social media. It is likely that Australia’s firm position on this latest legislation will reignite the child online safety debate in other countries. Globally, many nations will be observing Australia’s moves, and the success or struggles of this legislation could influence policies beyond its borders. I hope the Australian government will actively engage with technology providers, privacy advocates, and mental health professionals to ensure that the solution is both protective and proportionate. At ExpressVPN we're all about balancing the need for privacy and security - and empowering people to take control of their online environment. Ultimately, it's critical that digital environments are designed to support young people's growth and well-being—without imposing solutions that may inadvertently erode personal privacy and freedom online. Check out the article to see my other hot takes on why this new legislation could be a great thing for young people - but why I think there's a need for more education around digital literacy and online safety too. https://lnkd.in/enDdh5J9
