INTERNATIONAL NEWS: AI CAMERAS SUPPORT TRAFFIC VIOLATION ENFORCEMENT IN GREATER MANCHESTER Over 3,200 drivers in Greater Manchester have been caught violating traffic regulations thanks to the newly installed artificial intelligence (AI) camera system. The "Heads Up" system uses AI to analyze images of passing vehicles, identifying offenses such as using mobile phones while driving or failing to wear seat belts. This pilot project, conducted by AECOM and Acusensus under the direction of Safer Roads Greater Manchester during September and October, aims to collect data, raise awareness, and develop educational campaigns. No offenders have been prosecuted during the trial period. Deputy Mayor Kate Green emphasized that distractions or failing to wear seat belts are major contributors to serious road accidents. The trial seeks to better understand the scale of the issue to advance the "Vision Zero" goal—eliminating all fatalities and serious injuries on the roads.
