On 22 November 2024, PwC Vietnam and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) successfully held a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a significant milestone in establishing a strategic partnership between the two organisations. The ceremony had the participation of representatives from both sides including Mr. Mai Viet Hung Tran (Tran Mai Viet Hung) - General Director, and Ms. Luong Thi Anh Tuyet (Tuyet Luong) - Partner and Markets Leader of PwC Vietnam; alongside Mr. To Quoc Hung, Country Manager of ACCA Vietnam, as well as officials from the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, partner organisations, and media agencies. Under the agreement, PwC Vietnam and ACCA Vietnam will focus on four key areas: developing ESG skills and promoting sustainability reporting, providing training and enhancing professional competencies, advancing the application of IFRS standards in Vietnam, and integrating professional certifications into internal training programs. The partnership agreement will be effective for five years, with annual work plans to be developed and reviewed regularly to ensure effectiveness. Both parties are committed to building a professional workforce and exploring new collaboration opportunities to contribute to the sustainable development of Vietnam’s accounting and finance industry. Vietnam’s rapid digital transformation is reshaping its economy, with over 78 million internet users accounting for nearly 80 percent of the population. The digital economy is projected to reach $43 billion by 2025, doubling 2021 figures. This significantly impacts various sectors, including tax management, where nearly one million enterprises and 27 million individuals have taxable income.In response to the digital surge, Vietnam has implemented substantial regulatory changes, including regulations on e-commerce, e-invoices, and personal data protection. The tax authorities in Vietnam are leveraging advanced data analytics and digital tools to enhance tax management efficiency, minimise budget losses, and increase transparency. At PwC Vietnam’s annual Tax and Legal Conference 2024, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung, Leader of PwC’s Tax and Legal Practice in Vietnam highlighted that to adapt to these changes, companies need a clear roadmap for technology investment. This includes stages like automated data management, robotic process automation, analytic process automation, and digital tools. Nonetheless, he pointed out that human expertise remains indispensable for interpreting and validating the outputs generated by these advanced technologies. Climate change is significantly impacting global supply chains. PwC’s special report – Climate risks to APEC commodity production, launched at APEC 2024, analyses the increasing impacts of climate risks on selected Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation group (APEC) economies, including Australia, the United States, China, Peru, Chile, Canada, and Mexico. In an interview with VTV, Ms. Lit Ping Low, Asia Pacific Sustainability, Climate Change Partner, PwC Hong Kong, emphasised that key industries are facing unprecedented challenges. Prolonged droughts in the world's largest copper mines, such as Chile and Peru, could reduce production by 70% by 2050, disrupting the supply chain for electric vehicles.
