🌍 Klimaschutz bedeutet mehr als CO₂-Reduktion. Das erlebte Vera Bünte, Leiterin Kommunikation & Öffentlichkeitsarbeit, bei ihrer Reise nach Kambodscha. In Sihanoukville, einer Region, die stark von Plastikmüll betroffen ist, besuchte sie die Initiative TONTOTON, Partnerorganisation von ClimatePartner Impact. Das Projekt zeigt, wie nachhaltiges Müllmanagement lokale Gemeinschaften stärken und gleichzeitig die Umwelt schützen kann. Besonders beeindruckend war es, wie recyclebare Materialien weiterverarbeitet werden und Bildungsinitiativen langfristige Veränderungen angestoßen. ♻️💡 Plastikmüll ist in vielen Teilen Kambodschas allgegenwärtig. Wilde Müllkippen und das Verbrennen von Plastik führen zu Luft- und Umweltverschmutzung 🌫️ und belastet die Gesundheit der Menschen und die Ökosysteme. 💬 „Wir lassen nichts und niemanden zurück,“ sagt Loemchou Say, Projektmanagerin bei TONTOTON in Kambodscha. Menschen aus der Region sammeln Plastikabfälle, die andernfalls liegen bleiben und die Umwelt belasten. Diese Arbeit bietet ihnen nicht nur eine zusätzliche Einkommensquelle #SDG1, sondern gibt ihnen auch die Möglichkeit, aktiv zur Verbesserung ihrer Nachbarschaften beizutragen. 🌱✨ 🌿📚 Der gesammelte Plastikabfall wird entweder recycelt oder umweltgerecht entsorgt. Im Gemeinschaftszentrum der NGO M´Lop Tapang bestehen die Wände eines Gebäudes aus recyceltem Plastik. Das ist ein Beispiel für den Einsatz der Materialien und bietet Anlass, das Thema Mülltrennung auch im nachmittäglichen Unterricht zu vertiefen. In der Regenzeit schützen die wetterfesten Materialien die Kinder besonders gut. Innovative Klimaschutzprojekt fördern nicht nur Klimaschutz #SDG13, sondern auch nachhaltigere Städte und Gemeinden, indem sie die Lebensqualität in Gemeinden verbessern 🌆 #SDG11 und fördern sie verantwortungsvollen Konsum und nachhaltige Produktionsweisen🛠️ #SDG12. 🌏 Wie können Klimaschutzprojekte vor Ort den Alltag von Menschen verbessern? Dieser Frage ging ich in Kambodscha nach.   🌿 In vielen Teilen Kambodschas, wie auch in der Hafenstadt Sihanoukville, sind Müllentsorgung und Recycling keine Selbstverständlichkeit. 🚛🧹Die Infrastruktur in den Städten ist für die Müllabfuhr oft nicht zugänglich oder für die Bewohner:innen in ärmeren Gegenden schlichtweg zu teuer. Daher wird der Plastikmüll häufig auf wilden Müllkippen entsorgt oder verbrannt, was Luft, Wasser, Böden und die Gesundheit der Menschen belasteten.   📍 In Sihanoukville lernte ich TONTOTON, Partnerorganisation von ClimatePartner Impact, kennen, die mit einem Programm für Plastikmüll-Management nicht nur die Umwelt entlastet, sondern auch neue Einkommensquellen für die lokale Bevölkerung schafft. Durch bezahlte Sammelaktionen sorgt das Projekt dafür, dass Plastikabfälle von Straßen und Stränden entfernt werden. 🚮 Für die Menschen vor Ort bedeutet das nicht nur saubere Nachbarschaften, sondern auch eine zusätzliche Einkommensquelle.   💬 Sodavy Mok betreibt ein kleines Ladengeschäft in einem am Bahndamm gelegenen Stadtteil und erzählte mir, dass sie ihr Einkommen mit dem Sammeln von Plastik flexibel verbessern kann. Das zusätzliche Geld nutzt sie unter anderem für die Schulgebühren ihrer 16-jährigen Zwillinge. Neben der direkten finanziellen Unterstützung trägt das Projekt auch zur Sensibilisierung für nachhaltige Abfallwirtschaft bei. Three years ago, Lim joined TONTOTON, dedicating herself to cleaning her village by collecting both recyclable and non-recyclable plastic. As part of our deep appreciation, her family was selected for TONTOTON's Household #Renovation Program. Using recycled plastic boards made from the materials she collected, we transformed her home—offering safety, comfort, and hope. While many waste pickers focus on collecting plastic for the recycling market, non-recyclable materials continue to pollute their communities. TONTOTON bridges this gap, empowering collectors to tackle even low-value, non-commercially recyclable plastic. Leave nothing behind! Informal waste pickers like Lim are the unsung heroes of recycling, responsible for collecting nearly all recyclable post-consumer plastic while often living in vulnerable conditions, with no social benefits or security.
